I've been back many times since my initial rating, and although the food is still delicious, the #1 item I always come for, the chicken wings, are now removed from the menu. I came for Sunday brunch and had a good experience overall. I felt bad for my server though. Seems to be staffing issue. Just something to keep in mind. We ordered the creole seafood dip, fried pickles, raw oysters, gumbo, Mardi Gras scramble, blue crab Benedict, and Cajun pastalaya. Most of everything was enjoyable. Creole seafood dip was tasty. They don't skimp on the seafood. Fried pickles were good. Raw oysters were so fishy. Not enjoyable at all. Maybe I went on a bad day. I'm not sure. The gumbo was extremely salty and the rice was hard. I've ordered this to go one day previously and it tasted good. So there is a huge inconsistency there. Mardi Gras scramble was also great. However there was some burnt egg in the scramble and those bites didn't taste too good. Blue crab Benedict was tasty. Generous amount of blue crab, surprisingly. Cajun pastalaya - great. Beignets hit. I think my favorite dish was the Mardi Gras scramble aside from the burnt parts of egg. We also ordered mimosas which were barely cold, basically room temp. We came a few times, and mainly had to come back cause the wait times were either an hour or more. We didn't have the patience to wait that long lol. We finally got in without a wait around 2-3 pm one Saturday . It was still pretty packed, though. We started off with the chargrilled oysters. I loved it sooooooo much!!!! It was definitely my favorite thing here. It came out with some toasted bread. The oysters were topped with garlic herb and Parmesan. Everything was perfect about it. We also tried the gumbo, and shrimp & catfish platter. Those weren't bad. The fried shrimps were actually bigger than what I expected. At a lot of places, the fried shrimp aren't as big as here. In all, I didn't have a bad experience and will have to come back to try their steamed items and eat some more of their chargrilled oysters. read more

Been to this restaurant multiples times (so you know it's worth it) Typically a little busy but nothing crazy and wait times are small. Waiter was very attentive and helpful. Appetizer - Cajun Crawfish & Queso - 8/10 Can never go wrong with a queso that fits the restaurants vibe. Queso was hot and flavorful. Didn't really taste the crawfish that much as the queso overpowered it. Fresh Jalapeños was a good touch. Chips where nothing crazy. Entrees - Bayou Chicken - 8.2/10 Supposed to be stuffed chicken but chicken is just placed on top but no complaints. Chicken wasn't dry and it had a good little kick (spice level 4/10). Paired well with the crab on the side. Ordered fries as my side and they were hot and fresh, also recommend the Cajun mashed potatoes as a side. Cajun Pastalaya - 9/10 My GF ordered this and it had all of her favorite meats in one, juicy chicken, savory sausage. Spicy shrimp. (Spice level 5/10 - Smoky chipotle spicy) pasta was cooked perfectly all meshed well with the Cajun sauce. Drink - Hurricane - Cat 5 - 8/10 My Gf likes alcohol and she get this every-time we go. I saw the sign when I was going on medical center parkway and thought I needed to try it since I love Cajun food, a veteran traveler to New Orleans. Pros: Service was very good , friendly , with a smile and prompt. I ordered the lunch special think it was 12 bucks. With that you get 1/2 po boy sandwich, cup of gumbo . I got the chicken and sausage gumbo. Spice was spot on, a kick but not set you on fire , the po boy was really good and the dressing on it was perfect. So it's been about 8 months since we've been here. Last time the service was so bad we walked out of the restaurant before ordering. So we decided to try it again. I ordered the Cajun Trio and my wife ordered the lunch shrimp Po-Boy. Mine was good, but I've had better. Where the meal went flat was with the shrimp po-boy with side-salad. The salad had several pieces of wilted:old lettuce in it. The po-boy consisted of a bunch of small shrimp on a thick bun. My wife said she could only taste the bread, sauce and lettuce/tomato and not the shrimp. She added that she had better shrimp po-boys at other restaurants. My wife said she would try other items on the menu but could see herself going out of her way to come back. read more

This was disappointing. Let me start by sharing that I've had a wonderful experience at the Franklin, TN location. My father and I dined here for lunch. One of the reasons we came here was due to the chargrilled oysters and seafood options. I loved the chargrilled oysters at the other location so we ordered a dozen as they're one of my favorite foods. It took a long time to arrive, so much so that our waitress was apologetic for the long wait. Once they arrived I noticed they didn't look right. Some were abnormally swollen looking, they didn't have Parmesan, a couple were burnt, and they gave us a huge bowl of the Rockefeller mixture- which is odd because we didn't order the Rockefeller oysters. They were awful. Chewy, flavorless, watery and gave the impression that they were frozen before we ordered them. I assume that may be why the wait was lengthy. I appreciate our waitress for returning them and removing them from the bill. My father ordered the crawfish. They came with unmelted butter blobs in the mix of crawfish which was unusual. Some were mush, a few were dead before cooking, and they didn't have corn so he had to sub a different side. It just wasn't the experience he was hoping for given crawfish are in season and this place is sort of known for its Cajun food. I ordered the blackened mahi with seasonal vegetables. The fish was okay but the seasoning was too salty. The coconut rice was like dessert, which may be a thing for some but it was overly sweet that I couldn't eat it. Who wasn't sugary rice with fish? The mango salsa was a bit flavorless but you only get a tablespoon so it's not much to add to the dish and the vegetables were overly cooked as much of it was mushy. I was so hungry I ate the vegetables and my fish but noticed that there was a ton of minced garlic to the point I had to drink a whole glass of water just to get the food down. I don't believe I would come back. Maybe this location is only good on weekends? If we decided to try again, we'd return to the Franklin location. read more

Yum, yum and yum!! Listen they get busy and I know why. It is good!! My advice is to go early before the dinner rush otherwise you will wait. We arrived shortly after 5PM and it was already filling up but we were able to get seated right away. Had the creamy seafood dip for an appetizer and it was over the top delicious. Had the shrimp and grits for entree. Also good but I don't know that I would get it again because of the broth which made my grits a little runnier than I like. As much as I enjoy the food at this restaurant I am sad to have to leave such a low review... The food is always good but the service is very spotty and not very good. To start off the blond hostess was VERY rude to my family and I when we had asked to be seated at a booth instead of a table that sat uncomfortably in the middle of the restaurant in tight quarters. When I asked if we could move it was a no because the tables weren't up yet. Even though they were getting up. After the table had been bussed and cleaned when I asked to move again she rolled her eyes and walked away. We had to get the managers attention in order to get an answer and when we did so he immediately said no problem and moved us to the booth. That being said the young lady continued to give my family and I disgusting looks all night and had been pointing and laughing with her friends and the manager allowed it. I don't give out to many five stars but this place definitely is one of the best places I've visited in awhile. From the service to the flavor was superb. Our waitress was awesome, someone was always clearing empty dishes and ensuring our drinks were always full. Having a family of 4 it's rare we all agree that the food was awesome. But in this case EVERYONE agreed. That deserves 10 stars because that NEVER happens with one pre-teen and one teen. We started with the gator bites and they were cooked to perfection. Most of the time places over cook them or they don't have a bursting flavor cajun steamers has . I had the Red Fish and my lord it was cooked perfect and the flavor was tasty. The wife had the shrimp and grits and loved it. Only thing I was a little disappointed with was they didn't have crawfish étouffée as a main dish only a side. My son got it and it was good but a little soupier than I like. But it was a side dish not a main dish so it's ok... not a deal breaker. Can't wait to try the other menu items. I just hope once the newness wears off it stays the same and the flavor and service doesn't leave with the newness. My first visit to Cajun Steamer (within a few days of opening) was less than stellar so I wanted to give them another try. Sat at the bar and Megan got me a beer while I looked at the menu. I went with the Zydeco Catfish...nice filet over rice and covered with crawfish etouffee and came with a side of steamed veggies. The dish was good, the breading on the fish light, and the etouffee had good flavor with a little kick. The side of steamed veggies overwhelmingly tasted like peppers (was basically 90% peppers) versus a mix of squash, carrots, and broccolini. Overall the meal was good and the service was excellent, but based on my experience not comparable to Cajun restaurants I have enjoyed. read more

They have a brunch menu with a $3 mimosas, $4 Bloody Mary's, & $4 screwdrivers from 10-2, or you can order off the regular lunch/dinner menu. I had the shrimp and grits and my wife had the red beans and rice with Cajun sausage. The food was delicious. I'm definitely a fan of this place. Planning a visit back in the near future. The shrimp and grits were just bad. It had what they called a broth on top but it looked and tasted just like grease/oil. Grits seemed to be just instant grits, nothing special. Ordered a simple salmon Caesar as a replacement and it took so long to get out my husband was finished and had to get it to go (not a lot of people in there), so not sure what was going on that day. Went there with my wife, daughter,son in law and my three grandchildren. Got seated promptly, waitress came over quickly and took our drink and appetizers order. Which both arrived quickly. I had the Cajun trio of red beans and rice, crawfish gumbo and jambalaya. All was very good, but I sent my jambalaya back not due to being bad but due to having no sausage in it. Waitress brought me another and it was full of meats. Overall the food for all of us was delicious, the restaurant was clean and the service was awesome. I recommend this restaurant to everyone. Only thing that I was disappointed with, was being a Cajun restaurant they didn't serve or even know what a Sazerac was. It's a classic NOLO drink and should be on the drink list. read more

We went to dinner here for Fat Tuesday. It was so much fun and the food was delicious. My husband and I both tried the gumbo. It was very tasty and not too spicy. Many items out of stock and unavailable. Gumbo tasted like it was 3 days old.... Thick......over spiced.....fried shrimp fried in old oil and over cooked. Seasoned vegetables were inedible. Asparagus looked sad. Then the kicker, a long blonde hair in my son's salad. I give two stars only because the beignets were very good and the servers were nice and hard working. I love the crab claw bites! Everything is really good! I've never liked gumbo but I love theirs. Dark and a bit more soup like. I could taste blacking seasoning and coffee in the gumbo. Showed up for a lunch meeting and the place was empty. Sat at the bar and was waited on quickly. Ordered the boudin for the table and only 5 bites on the plate. Too small for an appetizer. Redfish Rockefeller for lunch but they were out of redfish so they substituted mahi-mahi. I have to say it was phenomenal. Couple of beers and more conversation and I was glad we met at this place. I was able to taste a few different beers before making a selection. Will definitely go back and plan on spending more time. Went Sunday night about an hour and a half before closing. Food was ok, as expected for a chain restaurant. Service from waitress was very slow. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place was not at all busy. As being from Southeast Texas I have been looking for a go to Cajun Place to eat in Murfreesboro. I had thought on giving up til I went to Cajun Steamer Bar. This has been the best Cajun food I have found so far. If you try anything definitely get the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. It's a dark roux for the most part and it definitely has that kick to it. It's my favorite thing to get there. I've also tried the Fried Gator, crawfish Queso and Hush puppies . The fried gator was ok...I think the pieces could be cut smaller and fried a little bit longer. The crawfish queso was yummy!! Hushpuppies fried perfectly! I also have tried the bread pudding, not my favorite, but I compare all bread puddings to my grandmothers that is AMAZING!! We visited Cajun steamer at the end of April. Madison waited on our table during lunch. It's definitely easier to get seated faster than dinner. There was no wait. All her recommendations were fabulous. I went with Smoked ahi tuna dip as the appetizer instead of seafood dip, but will definitely get that one next time. It was amazing and plenty for our party of 4. We all ordered jambalaya soup, 2 orders of redfish Rockefeller, and a shrimp po boy. They were all amazing. We also ordered 2 of their most popular speciality drinks that were not shy of anything. Madison provided great service our entire visit. Went there for the first time on Friday. Didn't have to wait, set right down. Appetizer we got was really good. The Gator Bites were out, but that one was good. My wife said the Shrimp and Grits were good, but the grits were a bit watery. We had to wait a very long time for our entrees, but the server was good. My Rockfish Rockefeller was pretty good. I ordered some Seasonal Vegetables, which were decent. All in all, a good first trip. The food is very salty, which I don't really eat much of. But it was a good restaurant. New Orleans is my favorite city in the US and I get out there a couple times a year typically for, you guessed it! Food. So, I usually expect to be underwhelmed at Cajun restaurants, and I was especially skeptical given that this place is in a strip mall in Murfreesboro, TN. The red beans and rice were spot on and the Oysters Rockefeller were phenomenal, some of the best I've had. My shrimp po boy was meh, but they have a tendency to be outside of New Orleans in my experience. I would definitely frequent this restaurant if I was a resident of the area. read more

2nd try was worse, 1st try was just ok food with alright service. 2nd a simple shrimp boil didn't go well with corn cold, potatoes hard, the peel & eat shrimp are not too good from a Cajun seafood joint. Now the service seemed good for our neighbors but our rushed service, with no utensils, lemon, cocktail sauce until asked I did receive 3 packs of broken crackers and the napkins roll was low when we were seated and not filled when they seen it empty from wiping off the wet table again and the big wet menu. Servers should provide service, not make you feel like that you're disturbing there real work. Just not worth $25 or the $52. It's the experience, atmosphere, & service most of all for me. The sandwich was more of an open faced meal so I ate it with a fork and knife. I also got a side of fried okra which was pretty tasty. My friend got a shrimp po'boy and fries.
