This was my first afternoon tea experience, and I absolutely loved it! The interior is super cute and very warm and inviting. Steph served us, and she was kind, friendly, and attentive to us. The masala chai and jasmine green tea were delicious, and we were offered sugar cubes and oat milk with it. The assortment of sweet treats and savory bites were amazing. My favorite was the strawberry pavlova! I ended up purchasing more of it to take home.

So I purchased a 4inch UVA cake for my son. Let me start with the positive. I got the Golden Vanilla with Buttercream and it is absolutely delicious. I'm not an expert baker but (I think) this is French buttercream which I love. The vanilla cake had a amazing vanilla taste and while I do see why some would consider it dry, I find this true of most vanilla cakes unless the bakery brushes on simple syrup and I think it makes it too sweet. So cake and cake quality are 5/5 so why the 4/5? 2 reasons: price. For the 4 inch cake which says it feeds 2-3, for me I think this feeds 2 normal people. So that is 20 dollars per serving. I also paid extra for it to say Happy Birthday Anthony and from the picture you can see it doesn't. I assume it because it couldn't fit (it is such a small cake) but I didn't get a call to discuss if I still wanted the cancel the writing or if I was okay with substitution. I would have declined it since I didn't like it and just asked for the logo that was included. If it was free or the cake itself wasn't 40 dollars, again, I wouldn't have an issue but with what I'm paying for cake and paying extra for the writing, it was disappointing.

Since I can't respond directly to the owner, here it is. Duncan Hines was just an example that I have stayed away from for years. I love good dessert, not below average. Yes, that is subjective, just like everything in life pretty much about food. Your cake was as dry as the dessert. Plus ignoring customers who are standing there waiting to be served doesn't make you look good. We saw a person come, wait for a minute or two and leave, all without being greeted or served. Is that what you pride yourselves on? Honestly best of luck to you, hopefully this poor experience was just a one off but it was absolutely terrible.

The storefront is super cute, and I love how the cakes are displayed and that they are in slice form. We ordered the $24 5 slice graduation deal, and got the Strawberry Belle, Rainbow Carrot, Golden Vanilla, Classic Chocolate, and Wahoo Stout. The lady who put together our cake slices was very friendly and accommodating. While all of the slices had good flavor, the cakes were all very dry. The only one that I really liked was the Strawberry Belle, which was pretty moist because it was soaked with some type of syrup, but parts of the cake that weren't soaked were dry. The Classic Chocolate was probably moister than the other three, but was still on the dry side, and the rest of the cakes were super dry, with the Golden Vanilla being the driest. I thought the frostings themselves tasted good for all the cakes. I was debating whether to give this place 3 or 4 stars, but ultimately decided on 4 stars because although the cakes were dry, I liked the flavors and how the slices were presented, and the shop was quite cute. I wouldn't be opposed to trying this place again in the future to see if it was just an off day, but it isn't a place I feel inclined to come back to.

Cake Bloom is an aesthetic dessert shop on Main Street. Their desserts are very pretty and not too sweet, but are somewhat overpriced. The decor in the store is very pastel and has a very Instagram aesthetic. They also offer various knick-knacks for purchase. Street parking is available in front of the store but can be difficult to find.

This charming shop not only sells beautiful desserts, but a variety of unique kitchenware, and gifts that will surely add to the radiance of a home. As the name suggests, they are known for their artisan cakes, sold in the form of small rectangular slices. Each slice presents as a work of art, almost too beautiful to dig a fork into. My friends and I shared the 5 slice sampler. Though the slices look small, we struggled to finish our portion. We chose to sample the lemon, carrot cake, golden vanilla, strawberry, and violet chocolate. The flavor of each slice was so unique and like no cake we had tried before. The cake itself was perfectly moist, slightly crumbly and light. Some of the slices had extra spices and mix-ins that elevated the flavors, packing distinct, yet light flavors into each bite. The Violet chocolate seemed to have actual flower mixed into the cake base and frosting. My favorites were the vanilla, the strawberry, and the lemon slices. The shop owner and baker was so sweet throughout the visit. We truly got the sense that she loves creating beautiful desserts that bring wonder and delight to others. Cake Bloom is a must-visit for cake lovers and dessert lovers alike! I promise you won't leave without a smile of bliss.

This is seriously one of the coolest places to open in Charlottesville in quite a while. I know the owners have been making cakes for a bit, but the physical space is an awesome place to visit, whether you're commissioning a cake for a special occasion or simply a fan of sweet treats! Everything we had was delicious, and we had EIGHT pieces of cake. The 8-cake flight is a steal, with 8 full slices for $40. Our favorites were the Seasonal Citrus (lemon and blueberry), the carrot cake, and the limited-time Lady Grey! Seriously - you have to go in this Spring to try that one. The tea-flavored cake pairs perfectly with lavendar/lemon filling and buttercream frosting. I would eat this cake every day if I could. And the carrot is a classic, updated with delicious salted caramel frosting. But Cake Bloom is not just a cake bar, it's a "bubbles bar" as well. There were so many champagne options we were a bit overwhelmed, but the staff was very helpful and assisted us in choosing an excellent bottle for a reasonable price. We also had a pot of great coffee, essential for a brunch of cake and champagne! The rest of the menu looks delicious too! I can't wait to go back for a cookie tray and a milk flight. I didn't get a chance to try the lunch menu either, but I have heard wonderful things. I will absolutely be going back, and you should stop by too!

I've come twice now--once for a slice of cake and once for scrappy hour. The golden vanilla cake with ginger cookies n cream frosting was my favorite. Super moist and flavorful. Chocolate hazelnut: also good, as expected. Carrot cake: nothing special here. EVOO cake: my "scrap" was dry; not sure if this was a fluke. Overall, I feel like the slices are a bit overpriced for what you get, and the quality varies. The shop itself is cute --fun for happy hour!

I highly recommend the wine and cake pairing experience. Everything complemented each other perfectly. The cakes are high quality and quite creative. Just be careful about purchasing full bottles of wine. I paid about 2-3× as much for a bottle that would've cost less than $20 at Target.

Came here from Richmond for afternoon tea with a girlfriend and it was well worth the drive. They only do afternoon tea on specific weekends but this experience has prompted me to find a date to return to try their cake and wine pairings. The tea snacks were so delightful and I especially loved this experimental grasshopper tart that is not currently on their menu but I hope will be added after today. The service was friendly and the space itself is so lovely with great natural light and a cute shop at the entrance. Highly recommend this place. Wish it was closer to Richmond.

Cake - 2/5. Service. 5/5. Ambiance 5/5. Parking 4/5 I was very excited to try the cake, as the interior is super cute, and the place gets solid reviews. They were having graduation special where we could pick 5 slices for $24. Reasonable enough. The cake slices are very nicely and cleanly cut and reminds me of artisan soap, appearance wise.. The true test is flavor, and my family of four didn't even finish it. The best cake was the carrot (4/5), followed by the strawberry shortcake (3.5/5). Those are the only ones I took more than one bite of. The chocolate, stout, and the vanilla cakes were very dry (2/5 at best, especially the stout and vanilla). Perhaps it was because it was later in the day, but to be frank it tasted days old. I also think the frosting to cake ratio was very skimpy. Parking was a little bit of a challenge as it is on a busy road. We parked across the street at the Amtrak station, it was confusing if we were able to park there at all though. I would only return if I were with a group who wanted to do drink pairings. I have not had great luck finding solid dessert places in Charlottesville so my hunt continues.

Cake Bloom is a cute cake shop to catch up with your gfs! You can have wine/champagne and have your cake too here :P They also have the cutest gifts and trinkets. The first time I stopped by was near when they were closing up shop so only a few flavors were left. The second time I came close to opening and had plenty of flavors to choose from. I like all the different flavor options but both times I visited the cake itself was dry...I was really hoping for a moist cake. The icing is good and the flavors themselves are tasty but the cake is too dry for me. A cute place to hang out and do a galentines (they had a tea set event going on!) though.

This was an awesome experience for Mother's Day. I purchased the rose champagne and Mama cake, a Strawberry Belle cake that was incredible. The presentation was great in a basket with flowers in a small vase and a card that was transcribed by hand onto a card. It's the kind of gift that makes you proud to give it and just hits on all 8 cylinders! It was a great success, gorgeous to look at and wonderful to taste! 5 stars!!! read more

Wow! We had the vanilla/fig/honey cake and the lemon-y one. The figgy was AMAZING!!!! I love everything figs so this completely hit the spot. And my husband (who is not a dessert guy) had the lemon cake. Sooooo lemony and delish!!!! The staff was amazing. Service great. To be perfectly honest, I've never had an amazing wedding cake before, so my priority for our cake was that it would look really pretty and taste good. We were blown away with how good all the cakes we tried from Cake Bloom were and ended up going with the lemon cake with lemon curd and strawberries (seasonal citrus). Not only was Susan very easy to work with and delivered a beautiful three tiered cake, but the cake was absolutely AMAZING. Even our wedding planner said it was the best cake she's had at a wedding and many guests commented on how delicious and moist it was. We're so excited that Cake Bloom has a storefront so we can pick up a baby cake whenever we're in Charlottesville! read more

This review is LONG overdue...! I was looking for an all natural organic made from scratch naked cake for my wedding. After doing my research I came across Cake Bloom and lovely Susan. My fiancé(at the time) and I drove into Sonoma for a tasting... OMG! each flavor was out of this world amazing... hard to put into the words how each bite lands on your palate. The taste alone is a work of art. We ended up agreeing on the Olive Oil cake. We had our wedding in the city giving our guests a San Francisco foodie experience and the Olive Oil Cake was exactly that, I knew it would blow our guests away...and OF COURSE it did. It was one of the most beautiful cakes I had ever seen and exactly my vision of what I wanted...it tasted like a sweet delicate perfume exploding loveliness in your mouth... Wow, just wow. Working with Susan was absolutely amazing! She is such a fantastic person and is super responsive for anything we needed. We found Susan online and contacted her for quotes. Unfortunately she was completely booked when we originally reached out to her (mid 2018) but we kept in touch via email. She eventually opened her 2019 schedule and we were able to get our cake tasting with her. We literally told her yes right after the tasting. We didn't see the cake until the reception and it was absolutely gorgeous! Susan took what we envisioned and she made it real. We couldn't have asked for a better person to work with than her! Our guest loved the cake and there were little to no leftover cakes once the night was over. Overall, Susan was amazing to work with and I highly recommend her services to anyone looking for a great baker. read more

Went for a date and the cakes were so cute. Got the sampler and split it which worked out perfectly. The cakes were overall very good and yummy. The vibes were so cute. The interior was very aesthetically pleasing and they had really cute decorations. The prices were a bit too much in my opinion but would definitely go again. read more

We hired Cake Bloom to make our wedding cake in 2017. Susan was very friendly, professional, and responsive, and the cakes were absolutely delicious! We tried several flavors and they were all great, but we ultimately chose the carrot cake, which got rave reviews from our guests. She worked with us on the size and look of the cake and it ended up looking perfect. The prices were high but were on the lower end among similar wedding cake designers in the area. The quality and professionalism on our wedding day were amazing and the cake was truly one-of-a-kind. Best of all, we got to support a small local business! read more

I was extremely selective about our wedding cake baker, because I not only wanted the cake to look amazing, I wanted it to taste amazing too. Susan met all my expectations and more. Her organic rainbow carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and salted caramel was legitimately the best cake I have ever tasted. I still have dreams about that cake. And it looked gorgeous as the centerpiece for our dessert table too. A+++, hire this woman for your wedding or special event or whatever occasion you may need a cake for, because she is well worth it. Bonus: she has gluten-free options that taste just as good if not better than a cake made with regular flour. That's surprisingly hard to find around the Bay area, for those of you who are gluten-intolerant. read more

Our out-of-town family was coming to our home for dinner & pre-ordered the "Dark Chocolate" cake to bring as a surprise for my birthday. It was a lovely lookin 8" cake with pansies. The icing was a greasy, no flavor, inedible, unsweetened "glue" for the pansies to adhere to. It was definitely NOT cream cheese frosting. We were introduced to Cake Bloom by WedSpring on Polk Street. We checked out Cake Bloom's website and knew right away that they would be a great fit for what we were looking for. The photos of Susan's cakes were to die for and we loved that she uses local, seasonal, organic ingredients. It was music to my ears. After completing a brief questionnaire based on flavor and presentation preferences, Susan set up a fun and delicious cake tasting for us. The rainbow carrot cake was out of this world and we were so in awe about the special ingredient Susan uses to naturally color her red velvet cake. We were instantly sold. Susan created three beautiful single tier round cakes for our wedding. All displayed on Cake Bloom's lovely cake stands. From the get go, I had provided Susan with a picture of a "naked" cake that I wanted one of the cakes fashioned after with roses, freesia and succulents on top. She pulled it off exactly. My fiance and I were recently picking out our invitations at WedSpring this past weekend and we were lucky enough to run into Susan, the owner of CakeBloom. I wish I could transport her down to So.Cal where we're having our wedding, but I'm definitely keeping her info in my phone for future events because her cakes are SO DAMN GOOD. She was super sweet and allowed us to taste two cakes: carrot and a rich chocolate. She uses all organic/natural ingredients and you can definitely tell by the taste. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. We ordered a baby cake, and it was really tiny for costing $40. The lemon curd tasted so eggy that we ended up eating around it. The other berry curd had no taste at all. We got the cake delivered on a Thursday, and it tasted like it was made on Sunday -- stodgy cake, not light or airy at all. We ordered this cake as a trial run before a birthday order, but we'll be sticking to our favorite Albemarle Baking Company cakes for special occasions. read more

After trying the Naked Rainbow Carrot Cake, I felt like I died and went to heaven. Cheesiness aside, it's truly hard to express how delicious Susan's cakes are. I for one never liked sweets, let alone cakes. I find most sweets over processed, and dull. Cake Bloom is a company that carefully crafts artistic visions with bursting flavor. Susan and I met through Yoga in SF many years ago and we have kept in touch since then. She would give me a taste of her beautiful macaroons and slices of cakes in the Ferry Building when she was living in SF. After she moved to Sonoma several years ago, I could only see her art work through Instagram. I have been dreaming to get myself the cake and celebrating no special day, just because I wanted to get one and indulge its beauty and deliciousness. Only recently, the timing seemed to be perfect for it, but for my great writer friend's 50th birthday. All 9 of us were glamping. Susan kindly and generously accommodated us with the schedule. Founded in San Francisco, Cake Bloom founder, Susan Sweeney relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia in late 2019, before opening her first sister-owned brick-and-mortar bakery at 705 West main Street.t In January 2026 Cake Bloom moved locations to 120 10th Street to expand their production, event and workshop offerings. Meet the Business Owner: Susan W.

Owner Susan Sweeney began her culinary journey in Northern California where she spent fifteen years working in all facets of the food industry after graduating from culinary school. From private chef and catering work to marketing for an organic olive oil company, she honed her professional skills while discovering her passion for seasonality and the local food movement. In 2012 she launched Cake Bloom in San Francisco, where she baked all natural wedding cakes garnished with fresh florals from the Ferry Building Farmers' Market before relocating to Sonoma, where she drew inspiration and ingredients in Northern California's famous wine region. In early 2020, she got back to her southern roots moving to Charlottesville and launched a reimagined version of Cake Bloom, focusing on smaller scale birthday and event cakes in her fresh floral style-all available for local, home delivery.

Chocolate cake with a light creamy icing. The icing had cookie cumbles and a minature Oreo on top. First bite was great! The mix of cream and cake was amazing. Cake Bloom's cakes have so much flavor and the textures are amazing. They are also very beautiful. I don't like cakes that have a bunch of fondant that's crazy colors and looks unreal.
