For me there are two factors that brought the rating to below expectations. 1.) I didn't think the food was good quality. I tried the peach and cherry coblers. For me, the filling tasted like canned pie filling and the crust was pretty mediocre as well. 2.) The hours here are strange- I feel like I drove by numerous times in hopes they would be open to give it try. My understanding is when they are open they close when they run out of product for the day (fair enough- and it seems popular with locals). All in all, I probably won't be back to Two Chicks but it seems like a popular spot for other people. Maybe you'll enjoy it more than me :)

Lucky for her, my dog woke me up early so I threw on some clothes and took my sleepy eyes to the bakery where, not quite open yet, a number of people were waiting outside for the door to be unlocked. Hilligoss has been around since 1974 (family owned). No shop compares! Friendly and efficient staff, and if you don't know what kind you want, ask them for a dozen variety and they will choose for you (though my favorite will always be plain glazed)

The construction made it a bit tricky to find but I finally located it and parked in the lot right next to it. The "menu" is posted with pictures on social media each morning when they open. I had an idea of what I wanted but didn't know how much everything was priced at or what would be available so I kept an open mind. When I walked in, the older woman working was very sweet and patiently went over all of the offerings for the day (not everything was labeled) while never making me feel rushed, which I appreciated. I was hoping for a slice of the German chocolate cake but it sold out quickly. I got my husband a slice of the carrot cake, which is MASSIVE, heavy, and $10/slice. I do think they should make the cakes go further with much smaller slices. The carrot cake has no nuts or raisins because I was told that's how the owner's dad likes it. Odd reasoning, where I wish it was based on a majority of paying customer preferences instead, but that's okay. The cupcakes are $4, I purchased one lemon raspberry. The macarons are HUGE and $4/each, I got one crème brûlée. They had some minis leftover from a shower they catered so I also purchased one raspberry for $2, which was still larger than a normal macaron elsewhere. I also picked up a lunch lady chocolate peanut butter bar (I can't remember the price) and an apple cinnamon scone ($4). The suggestion was to keep things I wouldn't eat right away in the fridge. These snacks lasted my household well beyond the weekend. I kept the carrot cake in the fridge due to the cream cheese icing, as well as the bar, but other items were in my baked goods container with the stone to keep them moist. The scone was INCREDIBLE and so soft, like an apple pie with caramel frosting. I should have purchased a dozen of these, haha. The bar was also phenomenal. I didn't care for the cupcake that I ate same-day as the icing didn't taste fresh to me - it was crunchy like it sat out uncovered for a while. The carrot cake was just okay, lacking in some flavor, but the frosting was nice. The macarons were yummy over a few days, extremely fresh, although the raspberry just tasted like vanilla (I wish it had some raspberry filling in the middle). Overall I will definitely make the drive to come back, especially to try the homemade Oreos and oatmeal cream pies I've seen advertised, but will likely pass on the cake in the future.

I stopped at Mayberry Cafe for dinner, however, I'd spied Danville Dips when I parked on the town square and decided rather than ordering dessert I'd wheel over to Danville Dips to check it out. Danville Dips is located down the block from the Royal Theater. Parking is available streetside or along the square with 2-hour time limits for most parking spots. As a side note, disabled parking spots have a 5-hour time limit. This allows you to really visit the square and its increasingly cool businesses. Danville Dips is locally owned. The minute I arrived, I felt comfy. While I would call the entrance accessible, I'll note that there's a bit of an incline to get into Danville Dips. I was able to open the glass door and wheel myself up the incline (NOTE: I am a wheelchair user). However, those with upper-body difficulties may need assistance. Danville Dips is bright yet also has lots of wood. It's a unique design I really liked. There's booths along both sides of the wall and a surprising amount of empty space. As you go toward the back, you'll see the ordering counter. They also have a side room you can rent. Danville Dips is an ice cream shop, of course, but they also do carry sandwiches and such. They have sandwiches, hard dip, drinks, specials, sundaes, floats, and a few other items. Despite it being only in the 40s today, I was still in the mood for ice cream. I for the life of me can't remember the name of the flavor I got - something along the lines of a brownie/chocolate concoction. Whatever it was called, it was a delight. The serving size was also more generous than expected. By the way, I have to mention. There was a group of for young women sitting at a table when I arrived. They enthusiastically greeted me when I arrived and did so with a sincerity that was refreshing. I have no idea who they were - associated with the place? Friends of employees? Who knows? They were awesome. They did the same thing when I left. They had no idea I'd just lost my father and had just spent the afternoon cleaning out the house - but their heartfelt welcome nearly brought me to tears. Ultimately, I really loved this place. The atmosphere is welcoming. The employees were friendly. Those four people? Icing on the ice cream cake. This town square has several stores worth exploring along with Mayberry Cafe, the Royal, a coffeeshop, a burger joint, and an art gallery. Danville is an easy drive west and easily worth it. When you arrive, you definitely have to head to Danville Dips.

It was Sprite, pineapple and ice cream. There might have been more items in it, I can't remember. It was good. I would get it again. They have soft serve and hard dip ice cream. Even saw a little boy with a push up! So there is something for everyone.

Finally asked them about the cotton candy that was advertised on the window. They acted like we were bothering them. And they didn't kno squat. Won't be back. Bought the last bag of cotton candy. Don't hire teenagers if they can't be bothered to wait on customers.
