So it's hard for me to give a star rating because we came after the post-eclipse rush (and Hilligoss didn't have much left), but I also wanted to share the photos. Given the one donut I had (raspberry filled), it was definitely better than your standard fare - good quality, maybe a little sweet but more personal preference, maybe a little small but overall a solid donut. I had a taste of the oatmeal raisin cookie too - which tasted homemade with the nutty oat flavors and a bits of salt - I could see it not being everyone's favorite but still a good cookie. Definitely didn't expect the place to be so sold out so early (as it seems many reviews are saying), but the eclipse crowd probably definitely contributed to the shortage. Donuts were fresh and full of flavor. Light donuts with great toppings such as Carmel and nuts. The yeast were the bomb!

I was really excited that I was finally make it to Brownsburg to check this place out. However, all I was served was a big old heaping of disappointment. I got there around 2PM, 4 hours before they close and their display case was empty. They had a few donuts and a couple of Danish left. Well, since I was already there, I opted to get something. They donuts did not look very appealing at the time, so I got two Danishes for $4. The guy that was working there was friendly enough and the place has a parking lot that it shares with the other businesses in the plaza that it is located. They do not have indoor seating available, but they have a decent amount of tables that you can sit at on the patio area in the front. The two danishes that i got were pretty good. I wish I had more of a selection to choose from though and not whatever they had leftover from earlier in the day. I understand that you don't want to waste any goods, but they should either have a wide assortment of goods available until close or adjust their hours to close early. read more

They take cards now! I have only been here a couple times, so I might be behind the times. The first time I visited, I had no cash and had to leave empty-handed. Today I got a cheese danish, a cinnamon swirl (could be calling incorrectly), a glazed cake donut, a brownie, and milk. The danishes are decent-sized and have a good quantity of cheese filling on them. All of the donut-ish items I got were nice and light; not too dense. The cinnamon swirl could have had a bit more cinnamon, but still good. The brownie was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. I received everything for under $12, which feels a smidge pricey, but what isn't these days?! The shop itself is small and dated (which does give it a homey-feel), but the pastries look nice enough, so it's fine if you're just picking things up. read more

I ordered the glazed yeast and the glazed cake donuts. The yeast donuts were so soft and yummy. I went in the early afternoon, and the donuts weren't warm, but still very delicious. It was much busier than our first time but Hilligoss was well staffed with 3 team members and lanes open at the counter (separated by plastic panels on the front and sides for safety). Even after driving from Hilligoss in Brownsburg back home to Avon in 7F degree weather, the donuts were still hot in the bag when opening at home. The bakery is mostly a place for donuts, cookies, and some pastries. Pretty standard fair with the exception that these taste fresh. I've been to many bakeries and donut shops around the metro area and must admit that I didn't see anything here that had that "wow" factor...just plain and simple stuff. I prefer pastries to donuts, so I did pick some Danish and a sampling of the cookies (they make theirs the soft and chewy variety, not the crisp or thick kinds.) The flavors were fine. Just nothing to get excited over. It's nice that they have long hours and are open before and after work. I was surprised when I saw the sign on the door that they are a cash and check only business. I've seen other places do that unless the order was large, but it seems like an inconvenience to the customer to have to stop at an ATM if they need a large order. This is one of those amazing bakeries that's been in business since 1974 and survived the test of time serving the Brownsburg area for 45 years. I've driven past so many times but not making it a destination never made it before they ran out of doughnuts or closed. Today, we had a 9:30 service appointment at the dealership and made a point to visit before they ran out. One thing to know is Hilligross now accepts credit cards so you can pay with cash or credit card. As you approach the entrance there's a patio area with four picnic tables and umbrellas to dine at weather permitting. The aroma was so sweet when we entered. The bakery is cute with four dine-in tables and colorful posters to the left as you enter. The soda fountain is to the left and a cooler filled with milk and juice is to the right with the bakery case straight ahead. We expected a line but only one person was in front of us. As we approached the case, there were only a few options remaining but enough to give us an opportunity to sample. About 3 dozen yeast doughnut, a few glazed cake doughnuts, a large caramel alligator and 3 apple danish remained. I selected one of the apple danish and my husband had a glazed yeast and cake doughnut. We wished we could have warmed them up for a few seconds but still decided to eat there since we were on our way out of town. My husband commented the yeast doughnuts has body but still light and fluffy and the cake is almost as fluffy as some bakeries yeast. The apple danish was tender and light with a dollop of sweet, diced apples in the center of the danish. We both would order again. There never was a line while we were there, just a steady stream of what appeared to be regulars slowly clearing the remainder of the inventory. I'm happy we had the opportunity to try their doughnuts. I would like to return to see all the options available. You have to be providing the customers what they want to be in business for 45 years.
