This is pretty much as close to perfection as it gets. I am KICKING myself for not getting more of those chocolate scones. We don't live close enough but I will absolutely be back when I visit my aunt next month. Some other standouts were the pear tart, the linzer tart, and the pecan bar thing. But that chocolate scone. We happened upon this charming, vintage, European-inspired bakery/café on a summer trip in the Poconos. What a delightful find! The coffee was fantastic; scones had a tender crumb; and the Portuguese custard tarts were the closest we have found in the U.S. to the delectable pasteles de nata we enjoyed in Lisbon. We discovered that the friendly owner is of Portuguese heritage. She is certainly a talented baker. This place offers many luscious bakery item and a variety of coffees and teas. We tried several items, and all of them tasted gross. They weren't fresh. The empanada was who knows how old, and the tres leches we tried was probably a week old. Inside, it was hard--tres leches without the leches? Then don't call it tres leches. I'm just so upset that we wasted so much money and had to toss them all. My son wanted to buy the whole tres leches. I'm so glad I wanted to try first. May be their cookies and scones taste better. But not the empanadas/ tres leches. Absolute delight! Northeast PA is lucky to have this bakery. Incredible cookies, cakes, and pies. Their peanut butter cookies are legendary in our family. We live a thousand miles away, but when we come up to visit family we always get a pound of the peanut butter cookies! They are crispy, melt in your mouth cookies. Absolutely my favorite cookie! My last review had more to do with the man I presumed was the owner that treated me so reprehensibly and not the quality of the bakery itself. After 3 years I revisited this shop in the hopes things would have improved. Truth be told, I had the best, authentic, chocolate eclair in recent memory. I also had a cherry tart - couldn't remember a tastier pastry. The pie crust was perfect. Buttery yet light. The cherry filling was also first rate- not too sweet or overcooked. Simply delightful. My wife loves their scones. There are a plethora of flavors and types to choose from and they are all delicious. Hit this bakery on our way out of town. The woman who greeted us was the sweetest most knowledgeable woman who told us she had founded Cakes & Scones Bakery because when she moved here with her husband she realized this town just "needed a great bakery" and let me tell you, this was a great bakery. Everything was fresh and delicious from the coffee to the scones to the danishes to the Greek empanadas. 10/10 recommend, this is a necessary stop for the lovers of ANYTHING baked. read more

About a week ago, my wife and I stopped into this bakery while out for a ride. Bought more than 30.00 worth of a variety of products. The pear tart was very freezer burned, so when we got home (about an hour away), we called and told the person who answered that the pear tart was freezer burned. They said they would have the owner call us back. The owner never called back. Happened to be out that way again today, so we stopped in to purchase some more of the products that were good...and mentioned the pear tart being freezer burned. Since we had called only about an hour after purchasing it last time, we expected to be reimbursed for it...or have it replaced. They refused to give any credit for the poor quality pastry we had to throw away, explaining that they only give credit if you return the product to them immediately. We were not going to drive an hour back to the bakery to return it...so we decided not to purchase the items we were going to get today...which would have nearly 60.00! So...they have lost a large sale, lost a customer and I will be putting this on all review sites I can find to warn other people....all over a 5.00 piece of pie! I have met people who are cheap...but this business owner is just plain stupid. You cannot trust this bakery to back up their product. I am in my 60's and have never complained to a bakery about their product before...but this was severely freezer burned. They even lied and said they don't freeze their baked goods. Sorry...but I know freezer burn when I taste it. Not worth taking a chance on whether or not what they are selling is good or horrible. Don't waste your money. read more

My husband and I wanted a cup of coffee and a little something to tide us over to our brunch. We stopped at this unassuming building with a full parking lot and quickly picked out 5 times what we were planning on. Lemon bar,pecan bar, cranberry/apricot scone, elephant ears and coffee. Stopped by on a rainy Saturday to pick up some desserts. We bought a lemon bar, a brownie, a cherry and almond pastry, and a linzer tart. All were delicious. The brownie was my least favorite - somewhat light which my friend loved, but I prefer a denser, richer brownie. They had a nice looking selection of scones, but we did not try any. The pastries were about 2-3 dollars each. They had delicious looking cakes ranging from 17-27 dollars. Also very nice looking cookies. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning! NOTE: The address here is correct but when you put it into google maps or any GPS system it sends you the wrong way! I thought it was closed down but it's not, Just follow the numbers on the road and you will find it! read more

I have to rate this overpriced uncooperative nasty tasting place I've ever been too!! They charged $110 for a TINY 2 tier cake less than 7" bottom...was supposed to be buttercream frosting which it wasn't it was also supposed to say Happy Birthday...it didn't. The cake was old and not edible. Called back for resolution and the woman offered $10 for forgetting the name and Happy Birthday....this place is a rip off and a joke. It was good thing it was only family at party which the cake ruined if I had guests I would have been running to walmart for premade at least you can eat their stuff!!! What a nice surprise to find this bakery in the Poconos area. The place is very clean, nice, smelled like fresh baked goods made with excellent butter, bakeries do not smell like that anymore so right away I knew their everything was going to be delicious. Scones excellent, cookies yummy and the best was the chocolate mousse cake for my granddaughter's birthday, so rich we had it two days in a row, again real dark chocolate. This place can be phenomenal, but if you go too late in the week everything tastes like the refrigerator. I bought a box of goodies for the neighbors, they weren't impressed (but they were trying to be nice about it) and when I tasted it too I realized why they weren't happy. I should have realized something was up when I asked for a cream puff and the gentleman who works there even told me he's not going to sell it to me, as it was old. I thought maybe he meant "hours" or even a day but now I realize he probably meant almost a week. Around the holidays when there's more turnover it's better, but as of last week all the stuff was old and tasted like the fridge. A real find hidden in the Pocono mountains. Cookies as good as can be had in some of the best bakeries in Philadelphia. Their scones are perfectly balanced with rich butter and fresh fruits and sugar - crunchy crust and a smooth melting interior. Though I didn't imbibe this time, their cakes are delicious as well. One of the owners is so nasty that he should take some lessons on delighting a customer to ensure a positive experience. His wife, the actual baker who typically creates tasty baked goods, needs to work the front instead of him.
