We came back a second time and got 5 different desserts. All tasted very fresh, great soft texture, flavourful and not too sweet. The whoopie pies are soft and delightful! The carrot cake is the best I've ever had, light and fluffy, not overly sweet. Just perfection. Maybe it was just bad luck the first time. A friend of mine bought a tiramisu birthday cake for me from this bakery. As the photos show (erhm....) it was delicious. Cute little cake, balanced flavors and fresh toppings. LOTS of chocolate shavings much to the joy of my kids. If we use this bakery again, we will probably try to take more pictures because the desserts are really cute and well presented. read more

My go to place for cakes in Victoria. They sell their cakes and baked goods to a few restaurants and cafes around the island, which is how I heard about them years ago. Any time someone has a birthday any of their cakes are a sure winner. Their cakes are beautifully decorated (with chocolate ribbons/curls) and they a selection of flavours to choose from. I've had the Belgian raspberry, white chocolate raspberry, chocolate symphony, tiramisu and passion fruit, fruit symphony and melody cake. I am not a huge fan of butter cream icing so I prefer the lighter cream/cream cheese icing. It's just a little shop that sells individual slices of cake, cookies bars, and an assortment of kitchen type gifts. It's located in a warehouse area but well worth the drive! read more

A coworker I really like is leaving the company and moving on, and I was tasked with finding a suitably great cake with which to send her off. After perusing a couple of other options, another coworker suggested I try here, and I'm so glad I did. The web site is clear, easy to navigate, and full of tantalizing descriptions and photos, with easy to understand pricing and serving descriptions. I called, and the person I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. The cake was ready on time, absolutely gorgeous (chocolate curls, curlicues, ribbon, beautiful icing etc.), with her name spelled right (I was worried about a possible cakewrecks incident), and most importantly, it was divine. Totally scrumptious and everyone loved it. The one we went with was the chocolate symphony, which in the 10" size should feed 14-18 people, according to the web site. We fed 16, good size slices, plus a very large slice (or two very small slices) leftover, so they got it bang on. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, for a party, a baby shower, even a wedding. Damn fine stuff to please any sweet tooth. read more

Great cakes here! My family always orders either the passion fruit cake or the cappuccino cake. Both are 5-layered vanilla cakes with cheese filling in between. The filling isn't overpowering like a cream cheese cake would be, but is a The cakes are unbelievably moist and so decadent! The chocolate shaves as topping decor are delicious as well! But seriously, these cakes are amazing. As in if you were stranded with no food source other than a Cakes etc. cake, you would struggle rationing it to survive. Pricy cakes but well worth it for a good celebration! Also be sure to say your final good byes to any abs you have toiled away for. read more

There is no point in using any other bakery in town. Cakes Etc. is top of its class. Magnificently delicious cakes and the friendliest staff possible. The kicker - you can purchase a gargantuan slice of many of their cakes in the delightfully bright and immaculate store to help in making your decision. They even serve coffee and tea!! Be prepared though, it doesn't really help narrowing down your choice as each one is ridiculously delicious! This is the ONLY place I will order cakes from. read more

I ordered 6 cupcakes from Cakes etc. the day before I needed them. When we picked them up and had them that night. They were stale and certainly not made that day along with the icing being a weird texture and not a pleasant taste. However they looked terrific. If you are looking for interesting artful cupcakes these are for you. But, if you like fresh cake and buttery icing stay away. read more

Great cakes, but terrible customer service. I called last week to order a 8" inch cake for an office party. They asked me when I would like to pick up, and I stated 8 a.m. pick up as the office party started at 9. At no point did the woman I speak to tell me that cake pick ups are from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (if I knew that I would have picked up day before). When I came in the woman at the front counter was INCREDIBLY rude to me. She told me I would have to come back at 10 a.m. as they were busy and my cake wasn't ready. I explained that I was told on the phone when I ordered that an 8 a.m. pick up was okay, and that I had no means to be able to return to their bakery at 10 a.m. that day. She told me that whoever told me that an 8 a.m. pickup was okay lied to me and implied it was someone from my office who lied to me (although I am the one who placed the order) as they would not have told me that. They eventually decided that they could whip it up for me, but I'd have to wait (which was fine by me). The whole time the woman at the front counter whined about how I was inconveniencing them because they are really busy and they were especially busy today. They never once apologized for THEIR mistake, instead blaming me the whole time. When I tried to say thank you for rushing the cake for me, the woman snapped that it wasn't ready yet as they still needed to sort their payment error (they overcharged me), and when I left she coldly yelled "CHEERS!". Don't worry Cakes Etc.! There are loads of other bakeries in town and if you're so busy and my patronage is an inconvenience to you, I'll be more than happy to take my business elsewhere. It is absolutely unacceptable that is how your staff treat your customers. read more

This cake shop is fabulous and the cakes are about the best I've ever had. Well worth the trip for all my special occasions, and even not-so-special. We just enjoyed a birthday cake "OMG" was it good no great, it was a white cake with white icing and white chocolate shavings and lemon. My sister in law brought it by ferry to Vancouver because they have enjoyed things from the bakery in the past, they never let you down it's always top quality and perfect for the occasion.
