Oh man. So good. It's hard to find a proper sausage roll in Victoria these days and this place knocks it out of the park. After searching Reddit for the best sausage roll in town, stopped by with my brother on a random Tuesday, planning to grab a small bite and some coffee. It was so good that each of us grabbed a second pastry. Next time I'm in town, definitely stopping in again. Coffee was good, espresso was very good. Service was friendly and prompt. The pie crust here is drool-worthy. It is so fresh and flaky, totally satisfying. I find that the beef pie filling is usually way too salty for me so I opt to get veggie and chicken options instead. I've tried the desserts as well, and they are top quality and fresh. Taking one star off for the overly salted beef pies but otherwise it's amazing. read more

Be still my beating heart! If Saltchuck was a man, he would be my Prince Charming! I could gush on for hours about the pies, but that would take time away from the actual eating of the pies. They have an ever-changing, wonderful selection of pies that are out of this world. I haven't tried one yet that I didn't like and it's hard to pick a favorite. Being a beef lover, my go-to pies are usually the beef with mushroom and I have never been disappointed. Hot and filled with delectable chucks of tender beef smother in a hearty gravy and swimming alongside delicate slices of mushrooms. Heavenly! The also have the infamous homemade sausage rolls. You can taste the love that goes into the pork! Meat and feta is always good for breakfast, while the pecan butter pies are best to be kept for after consuming all of the other pies. Whenever I get off the plane in Victoria, my first stop is Saltchuck. Whether eaten with a lovely red wine or scrambled eggs in the morning, you will enjoy their fresh and delicious pasties. Had a craving for a homemade pie so headed over to Saltchuck. I bought the chicken pot pie for $11. What I found when I got home, 3 or 4 peas, gravy, no potatoes or other vegetables. What I guess was supposed to be the chicken was dark bits of unknown animal protein. It was not Lucious bits of white chicken breast, mostly bits of crap that you would normally throw out. Will never buy a meat pie there again. Yes, businesses are tightening their belts but $11 for this piece of crap is criminal. The pastry itself was passable - greasy. read more

The pies were so delightful. This establishment has THE BEST pumpkin spiced latte we've ever had. We had the beef and bacon pie, the butter chicken feature pie and a pulled pork sausage roll (no photos, we dug right in). What an experience. The butter chicken was saucy, it had all the elements of a delicious butter chicken. The bottom crust of the pie was the perfect thickness, not dry and not soggy from the sauce. It held everything together very well. I would strongly assume this would be delectable to go as well. The beef and bacon was so flavourful. The ratio of beef, bacon, and pie shell was perfect. The top was so flaky, dissolved in my mouth. Not to mention, the inside of salt chuck is so cute! Would highly highly recommend. read more

I heard about this place from an Aussie building a house in Parksville. Said they were the best pies he had ever had. And you know what? He wasn't wrong. I had the French Lentil and Peppercorn Cream pie for $6.50. Fair price for fair food. Nice and warm, well cooked, well seasoned. My only thought would he making larger ones (and charging a little more) since one isn't quite enough, but two would be too much. Would definitely come again. read more

Deep-dish disappointment here. Cute nostalgia decor shop but $16 for a single-serving-sized chicken pot pie and a slice of cherry almond tart....steep even for Victoria's precious-perfect foodie scene. The girl at the counter remained so blank-faced and silent it felt hostile and then she moved like a disinterested snail packing my order despite a line forming behind me. Got home so hungry and expected my dinner to taste so good that I just dropped off a cliff when reality hit,,,,,first I couldn't get at the pot pie whose crust seemed to have become one with the aluminum plate. Finally, in desperation, sliced in and used a spoon to flip it over onto a plate. What an oozing mess, with NO CRUST on the bottom! The whole point of the pie is the CRUST, right? It wasn't flakey or anything a crust is supposed to be and the steaming glop of reddish chicken bits and peas smelled and tasted like canned dog food. Just disgusting - one bite and It was over. Wow, for the same 10 bucks I could have had a huge family-sized pot pie from Costco that is at least pleasant. WTF?? The dessert tart tasted of canned cherry filling, no almonds at all. Also a bit of a soggy mess. Not worth the effort of eating it. I advise you to just skip this place altogether and don't expect to see it around for long. read more

I really wanted to like their pie. Specifically the pumpkin pie I bought for Thanksgiving. However the crust was really hard and the pumpkin filling had no taste. It didn't taste like pumpkin or anything. There were peacans mixed in but they couldn't save the pie. So disappointed. The service was awesome and friendly so that's a good thing. read more

I don't have much to say. The place looks really cool and the space was clean and the pies looked really tasty. Yes.... looked. I got the classic chicken which just had NO taste at all. No flavour or character, so boring and bland, I didn't even eat half and I rarely ever throw out food. Then, it came to my dessert apple pie. The entire pie was molded. It was all green and blue and was absolutely gross looking. Thank god I looked at the filling and didn't just dive right in. Really upsetting and NOT impressed. Will never go back. Our crews made a quick stop In Victoria we got off the ship and walked around for a little while since our cruise includes all our food we just wanted a small snack and we happened upon salt Chuck Me and my husband shared A Berry rhubarb pie and it was unbelievable the crust was flaky the filling what is not too sweet just a bit sour which was delicious it was the great ending to a nice walk and wasn't too heavy All in all it was a Delicious pieh and was well worth the $8 price read more

Got the Beef Wellington Pie for $8.75. A bit pricy for a pie with approximately a 3.5 inch diameter, but they've got pies from $5 upwards depending on the ingredients being used. The Beef Wellington was good and came out nice and warm. It was a less traditional Beef Wellington since the meat was sliced beef rather than a thicker cut, so that caught me by surprise and I'd probably consider renaming it to avoid any confusion. It had some white cheese layering the sliced beef which was nice. The pie pastry itself was the highlight - flakey with a nice tender base. This pie definitely could have used more meat as it was added quite sparingly. Based off my first visit here, I recommend you visit to try a pie for yourself! The flavour profiles are great so despite the pies not having much filling in them, I'll still definitely be back to try the other pies in hopes of finding one that's not only tasty, but also stuffed with protein :) read more

Went for the cinnamon buns we saw on CHEK news when they did a feature on the opening. Only made on the weekdays : ( BUT settled happily for the lemon meringue mini tarts ..wish they were bigger as they are TOO GOOD to be that small. Bought 5 meat pies . Different flavours we were going to split up and share but that didn't work as NOBODY wanted to share their delicacy . GO!! Go NOW!! Don't even think about it. Too good of a stop to miss out on.
