Have always loved visiting Murchies on every visit to Victoria. However, this time my visit was not so pleasant. We were there on a not so busy Thursday afternoon for a quick afternoon snack and tea. I ordered a bruschetta and mom ordered a blueberry tart and we both ordered earl Grey tea. As soon as we set our trays and was about to eat, we noticed a mouse running through the seating area (fairly without fear, probably in search of food). I immediately lost my appetite. However because I was starving I took a bite of my bruschetta. It tasted hard as a rock. The blueberry tart though was pretty good, mildly sweet and perfect. However couldn't really spend a lot of time here since the mouse was running around even with all the tables being filled with humans.

This didn't stop me from ordering a Victoria Fog

Pitch perfect take on a London Fog. Great service and great tea. The lemon tea shortbread was also delicious. It was a perfect afternoon to enjoy tea outside.

stopped in at murchie's while on my way to another spot for a light brunch, craving something simple like a breakfast sandwich or almond croissant. then i saw exactly what i wanted and went with the breakfast croissandwich and a victoria fog (lavender with oat milk). waited a bit in the line up along with everyone else. the display counter is massive and so tempting. the croissandwich came warm but not thoroughly heated, with layers of ham, fluffy scrambled eggs, and cheese tucked into a flakey croissant. the victoria fog was lovely, smooth and floral, and strong with two tea bags steeping in the cup. they used their lavender (earl grey) tea. the café itself has a nostalgic charm, tiled floors, warm lighting, and a long pastry counter lined with glass cases filled with cakes, tarts, and slices that tempt from the moment you walk in. chalkboard menus above the counter add a touch of old school personality, with hand drawn lettering and seasonal specials. the space feels timeless and well loved, a comforting mix of bustle and familiarity. seating inside was comfortable, with cozy banquettes and a calm, old world atmosphere. outdoor patio seating's also available if the weather cooperates. loud and bustling at 12:45 pm on a wednesday, with a steady stream of locals and tourists alike. founded in 1894, murchie's is a victoria institution known for its fine teas, coffee, and baked goods. right in the heart of downtown near the inner harbour, it's the kind of place that feels both classic and comforting, perfect for a quick bite, a quiet pause, or a pot of tea shared with company.

Stopped in to get some fancy boxed tea for my Mom, and stayed a a lovely cup of tea and a treat! My London fog was delicious! Also, so many fun little boxed tea gifts for the tea lovers in your life!

Huge variety of salads, sandwiches and pastries coffee and teas. Unfortunately, they don't make iced tea lattes. Only one person working the counter, so there was a long line. Also, the gentleman was not very friendly at all. Very big establishment with plenty of seating and they have a tea room as well. A huge variety of teas and coffees are available for purchase. Both coffee latte and tea tasted great, but a very small size for the price. I seen a mouse run across the room, ugh! Apparently, the person behind me seen me gasp and he said "oh it's a regular thing here in Canada, they are everywhere". I also didn't see a grade card displayed outside of their window on my way out....Maybe it's a USA thing, I don't know, but I would definitely not order any food items here. I'm glad I was just passing by on a port stop on my cruise.

Muffaletta sandwich, Nanaimo Bar and a hot pot of Murchies afternoon Tea

After coming to Victoria for over 30 years this my first time actually trying Murchies. I ordered the Muffaletta sandwich which come with various italian deli meats and a nice olive tapenade. It was nicely toasted and flavourful. $10.50. Decent for a sandwich in a nice place in Downtown Vic. Also ordered the Nanaimo Bar which is a bit more in terms of price but really well made. And best thing was the Tea. The Murchies Afternoon is amazing. It's a mix of 3 teas Assam, Ceylon and Darjeeling I believe. Amazing flavour. lts nice for tea and snacks and the Ambience is lovely. Seating is so charming. Service is standard order and pick up. No Table service.

Large coffee and tea shop with large gift shop of coffee, tea and teacups. The layout is odd - as if a number of smaller stores were joined together. Love the vintage Old World vibes that suit the Victoria downtown area so well.. our drinks were not good.. iced latte with extra espresso was acidic and bitter tasting.. tasted strange, as if made with coffee cream instead of milk. London Fog was average.

Ah, another visit to the beautiful Murchies. A very popular tea and pastry place in downtown Victoria. I ordered a monte cristo and almond croissant for a quick breakfast. The croissant was especially delicious and the monte cristo was buttery and hearty. Yum for both. My favorite place to sit is at the entrance. There a very few seats here, but always nice to people watch. There is almost always a queue, however it is worth it. Even at 7:30 am when the opened there was a short line. So if you are only here a few days, come here.

Their regular teas & some of the special blends - Dec 2023

This is definitely a must stop for any tea fanatics. As my dear friend stated it so well, it's a Victoria institution! Older establishment, showing a bit of its age but then again, that's part of its charm. Definitely had a lot of old building character & I loved the back room where it really felt more like a fancier tea house. It was also quieter as the glass walls cut the general bustling noises from the main part of the coffee/tea shop. Also, if you're really lucky, you get to sit by the very large windows, positioning yourself to overlook the full room & really take yourself into tea sipping mode. Decorated beautifully for Christmas & their teas... So flavourful! The aromas - ahhhhh!!!! So let's just say that I stocked up on a lot of mini gift boxes before I headed back out to the vehicle. Both my friend & I gave the teas a 10/10 and honestly that bread pudding is something I'll definitely have to enjoy on my next visit as it was that delicious I wouldn't change my order to the many other tempting options. Accessibility & finding street parking in the general block area is a bit extra challenging. Also, for my noise sensitive friends, it is a bit louder than most tea/coffee shops but at Christmas time & being connected to the shopping, it was to be expected. There is a smaller off-side table area (2-3 tables?) between the busier general area & the stairwell that's glassed off. This is where I sat at first watching for a open table in my preferred location. If you're physically able, there's more seating up several stairs (sorry, my memory is failing me on how many up & I couldn't grab a proper picture with the many people there to grab a coffee or tea). There are some tables right on the same the level where you order but those fill up fast. Too bad they didn't at least have one marked for disabled use. Also, I forgot to grab a photo of either of the entrances - the shopping side & the tea/coffee shop side. I can't recall which one had less stairs but I wouldn't recommend taking in a walker or anything larger with wheels. As it truly is that small/narrow of a place & very packed with people. Also, both sides are multi-levelled. So I was very glad that I went with my friend so I could go scout out where to sit & safely bring up our orders to the table I was waiting at. Overall, a really neat experience to take in while visiting Victoria.

    Macaroons in many flavors
    Rachel V.

This place is adorable, especially during the holidays. Everything is decorated and festive. The food and pastries are delicious. We also enjoyed the coffee. A huge plus is that they make a pretty mean hot chocolate for the kiddos or adults that gave up the caffeine. The line is usually long on the weekends but it moves fast. It's honestly not so bad waiting the 5-10min because you get to look at dozens of different treats, pastries and breakfast items while you wait. So of course you end up ordering way more than you need. I really really liked the macaroons. (I thought I'd never say this about these overrated cookies.) They weren't bland like store bought ones. Lots of flavor and the perfect crunch softness ratio. Especially the blackberry one. I also loved the sausage egg & cheese breakfast biscuit. The eggs were perfectly scrambled and piled high. Very full. Rich with flavor. The biscuit was moist but crunchy. Sadly, I tried to come back for a breakfast sandwich the next day but they were all sold out. I will definitely be back here the next time I'm in town.

Tea and a blueberry muffin and coffee with a heart healthy muffin.

At Murchies you are paying for quality. There is a lovely sitting area to enjoy your muffin/ croissant treat. The only thing I would do different would be to ask for a pat of butter.

Really nice store that's iconic in this town with strong British influences. A fun place to shop for teas and coffees from around the world, along with all the kit you need to make a great cup. Stick around and have a cup and a piece of cake, and enjoy an old fashioned tea time experience in lovely downtown Victoria. Visitors love this, so expect to stay a while.

    Scone with egg and sausage
    Jennifer H.

Came here for breakfast, and I got the scone with egg and sausage. It was large and filling, and definitely hit the spot for my breakfast cravings. The scone maybe could have had more butter? The eggs were also a little on the soggy side. I still overall really enjoyed this unique scone breakfast sandwich!

Service is fast and the staff is friendly. We had the below items and can't wait to be back to try more on their menu. It seems they do refresh their menu quite a bit and the current menu is definitely bomb! 1. Hong Kong style Pork Sandwich - 12/10, amazing favors, very nicely done! 2. Savory Poptart - 10/10, light, flake, buttery, melt in the mouth 3. Mandarin Day Dream from their Signature Drinks - Drink of my dreams. I will dream of it until I can have it again and I hope they do not drop it from the menu until then. Such a innovative and well balanced drink - 20/10, must try!!
