I came by myself here while in Barcelona, b/c it's a good spot to sit at the bar and have an awesome experience, others have told me. And by all accounts, I had a delicious meal. Coming at a little after 8 meant I waited no more than 5 minutes for a seat. My server chose 4 things for first timers, and let me tell him about anything I didn't like. I said, "no pescaditos fritos" - b/c the last time I was here, I had a terrible hives reaction to them! The woman next to me let him know she was embarazada, and so he made accommodations for her as well. This was a great accomodation to be able to make. That said, the reason they have to ask is b/c at the bar, they don't give you a menu! You just have to trust that it's all gonna work out. The items I was brought were:
tomato bread: 4/5 - pretty good way to start the meal.
fried calamari rings - 4/5 - pretty tasty! could've used some lemon, but still great
clams - 3/5 - the little normal looking kind with the two eyes sticking out. Tasty, though maybe a bit saltier than I would've wanted.
A ham omelette thing - 3/5 just kind of a boring omelette. Maybe that's a traditional meal choice, but I could've done with a salad or more carbs at this point.
He asked me if I wanted water, and I asked if they had tap, and he said no. I didn't say anything after that, but he brought a bottle of water and opened it before I could say, "I didn't order that" - luckily he took it away and didn't charge me.
He asked if I wanted anything else - I'd seen those beautiful razor clams get served up all around me, so I ordered them - 5/5. Such an incredible flavor! Looking at the receipt, I think that cost 12 euro, which was way more than I would've normally paid for it, but it was so delicious, I'm glad I did.
The total bill came out to 45 euro, which was much more than I was expecting having not seen a menu (and also going off of recommendations by other young people and yelp). It was totally worth 45 euro, but sitting at the loud, hot bar, it felt more like a 20-30 euro meal.
Anyhow, I'd still recommend this place, but I'd give people a bit more information about what they're getting into than I did - no menus, long lines, read more
