But because I also love Jennifer and Tony and think they're doing a great job running this place, I'm leaving this honest review . Best gym for lifting heavy in 5 cities area. Especially if you want someplace that feels safe, where the people are friendly, courteous, and I never have to wait to use equipment. They have 2 squat rack platforms, a smith machine, large dual cable pulley system, lots of dumbbells (go up to 100lbs) benches, boxes, not a lot of cardio equipment (boo cardio anyways...) 1 rower, 1 elliptical, 1 treadmill, and a large punching bag. They also have a few weight machines like lying leg curl, leg extension, leg press, hip thrust, and a chest press machine. (Would love a hack squat machine or hip abduction machine... ) Plenty of space for stretching or doing walking lunges. And a few personal trainers that you could get 1 on 1 sessions from if you're interested in that. love it here because there are a bunch of women that life heavy so it feels welcoming for women as well. In the evening there are a bunch of high schoolers and college kids that train here, and sometimes play death metal too loud (, I use noise canceling headphones) but it's rarely crowded The price is really reasonable too. This location has completely lost my trust. There was a…read moredisturbing incident where a man was arrested after recording nude women in the tanning rooms. After something that serious, you would expect management to take security and staffing seriously. Instead, they still seem to have only one employee working during the early morning hours (around 5:00-7:00 a.m.), which makes the gym feel inadequately supervised. What is equally frustrating is the lack of communication with members. Rather than addressing safety concerns head-on or explaining what changes were made to prevent something like this from happening again, management seems to have simply moved on. Then came the remodel. They removed several pieces of popular equipment, squeezed the remaining equipment closer together so parts of the gym now feel cramped and claustrophobic, while leaving large areas of empty, underutilized floor space. It somehow feels both crowded and empty at the same time. This used to be a gym I enjoyed, but between the apparent understaffing, the lack of transparency after a serious safety incident, and a remodel that made the layout significantly worse, I can no longer recommend this location. Members deserve to know that their safety is being taken seriously not just a fresh coat of paint and a new floor plan. I guess that's what you get with a gym owned by a franchise group (Flynn Group) that owns 140 plus PFs in 7 states. Corporate cowards concerned with profits only.

The atmosphere is a tad more laid-back than other crossfit gyms in the area. The owner personally trains the majority of classes, and is always available for, and receptive to, feedback. He has consistently added classes (or opened his gym early) when a demand rises from his clients. Crossfit Grover Beach (CFGB) has multiple trainers. Several of the trainers are former clients, who have received certification and now instruct, in addition to competing at an amateur level in local and national competition. These folks are supportive, helpful, and knowledgeable in fitness, nutrition, and general wellness. CFGB does earn a 4-star rating in my book, due to a negative performance in the 2013 Crossfit Open competition. The trainers did not pay close enough attention to the requirements for a complete movement, and their top athlete was disqualified from the open for this reason. That athlete has proven himself this year, and is on the road to redemption for the entire box' reputation.
