Great customer service. The only reason I put 4 stars is because the rule they have for patches. They change 45 for a shirt to be patched and name stitched. This is the best uniform store in San Diego. If you work in public safety, this is where you should be getting your uniforms from. They treat you like family. They don't try to oversell you on stuff you don't need and they don't play games with the pricing. Their prices are extremely fair, they do alterations and screen printing as well. Needed to pick up a 2nd belt for my uniform, last minute of course (eye roll at myself). I really didn't want to drive downtown, then found this place on Yelp when I typed in "fire police uniforms." They had the exact one I needed, in my size, anddddd.... IT CAME POLISHED! Boom, mic drop. I was very excited. I was initially anxious I was going to have to buy the belt then find somewhere to get it polished same day. Even if it didn't come polished, they do polishing in-house! Boots would be $20, belt would be $10 for polishing--which is cheaper than other places. Not sure how long it would take though. Although my experience was brief, it was a pleasant experience. I've been a customer here since 1988..no matter which agency I've worked for since then, this place is always on point. CARL is quiet, but a powerhouse in serving the First Responder community. MELINA has been my go-to person for clothes, boots, duty gear, and recommendations for new purchases. MARIA in alterations has done many repairs and custom alterations to duty, range, and tactical gear. All the other team members are polite positive and customer service focused. Parking is adjacent, always available, and safe for your g-ride or pov while you're inside. It's been a really long time since someone has done that to me. Whenever I would stop to look at a product, he would hover over me not asking if I needed help looking for a size or anything. Besides the experience I can't judge the store that harsh considering they have a good size parking lot, the store is nice and clean with a good selection of 5.11s pants and shirts. Got a blank stare from the three employees siting together at the front when I walked in and not a word when I left a couple of minutes later when I couldn't find what I was looking for. I came here because it had good reviews but I guess I was interrupting everyones coffee break. I actually said hello to the people at the front desk and they all stared at me blankly and proceeded to ignore me. I walked in here looking for some uniforms for my wife and I had my son with me. Someone came up to us and asked if they could help us and we passed it up because we pretty much knew what we wanted but another person came up to us and said, I overheard its your birthday, talking to my son. My son said yea, the rep said , how old are you? My son said, Im turning 16! He looked at me and said are you buying those scrubs here I said yes he said Kool. He turned to my son and said if you can make a shirt and design it anyway you wanted how would it look? After talking to my son he designed a shirt and my son absolutely loved it and the rep said, Happy Birthday! I found out afterwards that the rep was the owner. It's very unusual nowadays to talk directly to an owner instead of a payed figurehead. I really wanted to give them 5 stars because the staff is really nice. I placed an order for them to put new patches and a new zipper on my jacket. This was on a Wednesday and they said it would be done that Friday for sure. I came on the following Monday to pick it up and it wasn't even started nor did they call me to tell me it would be late. They then told me to come back in 45 minutes so I did. They gave me the jacket but it wasn't complete. The new zipper was on but they neglected to put the new patches on. They then told me to come back in 15 minutes so they could put the patches on. This place isn't a close drive for me and I wasted time on my day off because it wasn't ready when they said it would be. They do good work though I must say when its complete. read more

Great service. I've come in here a few times through out the years and never had issues with the time or quality of work done here. Stopped in today for a new pair of boots. The lady who helped me out let me try on a few pairs and showed me what was available on clearance. At the end I went with a nice comfy pair of boots that didn't exactly clean my funds out. Actually friendly. I've been shopping at various police supply stores in San Diego county since the late 80's and a rather large portion of them have terrible customer service. I can understand wanting to see your ID if you're purchasing a controlled items but when it's just boots, who wants to be questioned about who you are, who do you work for, why are you here?, etc. At California Uniforms they just let you walk in, shop, and purchase. No hassle, no lengthy questions until they're satisfied that you're qualified to be their customer. I get why some shops feel they need to do that but it loses my business with them, especially when I'm just buying something innocuous. I've never had that issue at California Uniforms which is probably why ( after almost 30 years of being a customer ) I still come here. read more
