We went to the 1:30 seating and had a nice cozy table for two. The tea service is wonderful. Our server was friendly and personable. She checked on us many times and made sure we were satisfied with every little thing. We found pretty, fun hats to try on for pictures. The table scape was lovely and the china beautiful. There was the cutest piece atop the water glass that looked like a bird. In it was a lemon slice that you squeezed and then poured the lemon juice into your water. What a wonderful touch. They have warmers in place to hold your tea pot to keep warm. I tried the hot cinnamon spice tea and it was lovely. Full of flavor and so fragrant. We tried the tomatoe bisque soup which was full of flavor and nice and warm. We enjoyed a nice salad with the secret homemade dressing. The 3 tier stand with all the goodies was wonderful. The presentation with ribbons and roses was elegant and inviting. We sampled lovely tea sandwiches, scones and Madeline cookies and chocolate covered strawberries. The scones were warm and delish filled with cranberries and white chocolate. I believe the best scone I've ever tried. My favorite little sandwich was the cranberry bread filled with a cream cheese spread with Kaluha, maple and walnuts. OMG! This place is the absolute cutest. Also, we have food, allergies, and they were so accommodating. I've never seen more tea options in my life. It was so hard to choose however we went with one of the fan favorites and we also bought that tea and it makes the most incredible iced tea. Visited the tea room again, and the service and food was excellent as always. Got some more tomato bisque (our fave!), and tried some new tea flavors! We were able to make a same day reservation, and the staff was friendly and the decor is charming. Food was delicious, and not too filling, with their normal homemade salad dressing as a great note of fresh flavor. My family and I have been visiting Calabash Garden Tea Room for years and have never had a bad visit! Their tomato soup is one of the best I have ever had at a tea room and their high tea sandwiches and pastries are awesome! I got the vanilla cake tea this time and it did not disappoint! I think this will be my go to choice moving forward. We love how they always have hats to dress up with while drinking your tea ( hint hint, they are in the bathroom!) We were also celebrating my niece's third birthday when we visited back in June and she just loved it! The little kids plate they made up for her was perfect- and she got a little lemonade in the teacup. I absolutely loved having tea at the Calabash Garden Tea Room. From the minute I saw the little group of shops it's located in, I knew I'd enjoy it. It's adorable! We made reservations for the ultimate tea, and our table was ready for us when we arrived. Each person got a pot of tea (so many choices-- my mom had passion fruit and I had the caramel vanilla cake black tea. We also got a salad with the amazing homemade dressing and a tier of treats -- tea sandwiches, chocolate-covered strawberries, raspberry macarons and maple walnut scones (still warm!) with lemon curd and cream. These were the best scones I've ever had. It was $32 per person and the reservation required a credit card to hold, but it's cash only when you arrive. You could add soup for an extra charge. When I come back here, I will be taking the dressing and lemon curd home with me -- it wouldn't have fit in my luggage this time! While my mom and I were there, a group of moms with their daughters having a tea party with hats and all! So fun. read more

Visited with girl friends and wasn't exactly sure what to expect... We were greeted and seated as soon as we got in (I called in advance to make a reservation). We were asked to choose a tea and they have a lot of variety! We opted for mocha rocca, caramel, and blueberry. While waiting to be served, the lady told us we can pick out a hat to wear during the "tea party". We were all giddy choosing the right hat for our outfits! Once we were settled, we were then served with a small plate of salad, it was refreshing and tasty, perfect for that summer day. Absolutely Tea-lightful! Every other review is spot on. My mom had been here before and she took me for the Ultimate Tea. The only other tea experience I had that was on par with this one was at The Grand Floridian at Walt Disney World. While similar, this experience was much better for a few reasons: the setting is much more intimate and quiet, the cost is significantly less, but most notably: The Calabash Garden Tea room has a closet full of fancy hats and they let you choose one to wear during your tea experience. How fun is that?? The menu full of tea selections is kind of daunting. I had a hard time deciding, but ended up choosing a spicy African blend, while my mom went with a more mild and fruity tea. Both were delicious and went so well with the courses of finger foods that was served with us. While we enjoyed all the little finger foods that was served to us, I can not stress enough how outstanding the scones were. They're served with both a delicious sweet cream and fruity preserve to spread on the scones, but they are perfect by themselves. They're located just off the main road in a woodsy area with some other cute little shops worth checking out. I can not wait to visit Calabash again and have another unique experience like this. read more

My family and I visit Oak Island every summer, and we were devastated to learn that the Southport Tea House had closed. We decided to drive a little bit out of the way to try the Calabash Garden Tea Room, and we were not disappointed! What a relaxing and special experience. We love going to tea and this place is one of the better places. There are different levels of tea service you can order: A cream tea which is scones and fruit, a light tea which includes tea sandwiches and fruit, or the Ultimate Tea which is a four course tea service. You must make reservations if you are going to have any of the tea services as they make only what they need for the day. The Calabash Garden Tea Room is set among other little shops which look like cottages. When we walked in we were greeted by the owner who took pride in her little establishment. At the table were china plates, a cup and saucer, as well as a water glass painted with flowers. On top of that water glass was a lemon squeezer in the shape of a bird. Very pretty and unusual. Our server went over the food menu then handed us a tea menu of 60 some teas from which to choose. She then directed us to the back room which held a variety of hats and scarfs for those who wish to dress up. I got the Queen Catherine's tea which is a blend of various black teas. DH got the Maple Tea. DD1 got the Apple Cider tea. DD2 chose the Raspberry Tea. One pot of tea comes with the service. If you would like more than one pot, there is a charge. Our first course was a spring salad served with their homemade dressing. It was fresh and light. The next course were the sandwiches. I don't recall all of them, but they were all outstanding. The cucumber sandwich was served with a sprig of dill. The apricot was tied with a little ribbon to look like a package. There was a deconstructed BLT which was a bite of pure deliciousness, another sweet sandwich, and a ham salad tea sandwich. I do not like ham salad and if given a choice I would not choose ham salad. The ham salad served here was absolutely DELICIOUS!. I could have eaten an entire bowl of it. Yet, I do not like ham salad. The next course were lavender white chocolate scones, mock devonshire cream, and lemon curd. Fantastic! The final course consisted of a mini raspberry lemon cupcake, dark chocolate dipped strawberry, and a little skewer of grapes and blueberry with white chocolate drizzle. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were above par. If we are in the area again, we will definitely go back. read more

I love this place! It is the most adorable place, and so perfect for afternoon tea. It is very comfortable, and quiet. There is nothing worse than blasting music when you are enjoying tea. Their music level was perfect. The shop has all kinds of goodies for the tea lover, and some quite unusual things that you don't see all the time, so that is a treat. The food was quite good. You can always tell if a place is good by the first course. The first thing we had was salad, it was really good so we knew the rest would be as well. The sandwiches were delicious , scones light and tender, and the sweets delectable. The food is very fresh and well made. The tea was quite good as well. Tea is one of my favorite pleasures, the setting in calabash is spectacular. All of us chose different tea flavors and shared our choices-it was so much fun! My 5 year old niece has been talking about the dressing up with different hats and gloves and keeping the memory going! (along with our pictures!) My first trip to Calabash was two years ago and I visited the tea room with my daughter. The décor is so quaint that you feel like you have stepped back in time.
