This place is just expensive bar food.... you can find better prices and quality. They best part is they have cheesy eddies deserts.

Food is good, bread is great. Had an authentic Rochester experience with a Rochester Philly cheesesteak which was a nice unique hot sun with some added Rochester flavor. Large Philly with a medium Philly and 2 drinks came out to $46 which seems a little pricey. Definitely a college hangout but the food was pretty decent. My wife and I followed up with going to refresh, which came recommended by the owner at Calabresellas, and had some amazing smoothies for desert. I highly recommend both locations! A bit of Arthur Avenue on Park Avenue. A great selection of hot and cold subs, prepared salads, and a few gourmet Italian items to take home. Interesting local foods too, like an entire cooler case of assorted homemade pickles. You can take out or you can eat in in a cozy little area. There's even an outdoor seating. It's my favorite place to buy subs from when I'm in the city , I been dealing with this business for 40 + years back when they were originally located in the Bullshead Plaza,so happy they have a location on Park Avenue which is less than a 5 minute walk from my parents house!! Shaved steak sub / pasta salad. Arrived still hot. Haven't seen this much steak in a sub since the Campy's bomber days. Absolutely stuffed with steak. I could only eat half a large. Calabresella's blows away many places whose main feature is steak subs. And it would take the steak portion from, for example, four subs of most other places to equal all the meat stuffed into Calabresella's shaved steak sub. The Grilled Chopped Assorted is so damn good. Service was kind and fast. My only gripe is that they need a bell on their door or counter. But the food is bomb, and that's what really matters. Also, a mini is pretty filling! read more

Charged me $15 for a ham and Swiss on ciabatta with mustard. Onions on the side. 6 inches. Sandwich wasn't even that good quite frankly. It wasn't bad but the fact that I paid $15 for a plain medium-sized sub left a bad taste in my mouth so it was hard to enjoy. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a while now because the photos they post of their subs always look soooo delicious. I opted for the cold turkey reuben sub special. A small is pretty big and probably more of a medium size in my opinion. The turkey was piled high, and the toppings were good but the bread was a little dry and chewy. I think if I went back I would get one of their hot subs on toasted bread or as a wrap because the meat and flavors were pretty decent. The service was really friendly too which was a plus! read more

Just horrible. Super grumpy dude at the counter. And not like "fun deli grumpy" like "why are you here dummy" grumpy. He made it 10 times more stressful than it needed to be and sandwich was terrible. Airport food at best. Got the "ny pastrami" Not sure if they've had a NY Pastrami or even did a google image search. My guess is microwaved pastrami? Could barely eat my $20 sandwich. Spouse gave another sandwich a shot a couple days later... straight up gross. Rochester, I beg of you - please eat in any other city anywhere in the country and gain some perspective. I'd be embarrassed to take anyone here. read more

I'd been meaning to go here for a while as I've been to many great sub shops in Rochester. I was disappointed. The roast beef was that shiny processed almost Arby-like stuff, the oil was from what I could tell, just golden Italian dressing. The bread (roll) was ok but tough and more ciabatta-like. The guy who took my order wasn't exactly Mr Friendly, I'd asked a question and he kind of seemed put off, but he comped my peppers he said. My take is that maybe this places was sold to new owners who kept the name? I'm not some random pissant with a mean streak. I've enjoyed Rubino's, even Amiel's scores higher and have enjoyed places like DiBellas and Jersey Mikes more than this place. I was hungry and hoped for the best, left with a stomach ache. I expected better, the inside was a bit weird too, and felt disconnected. I had asked for cheddar and they only had shredded, that don't work on a cold sub. read more

Let me start off by saying that I have been the customer of calabresella original location in Gates for a while now. The customer service has always been great there. I had a horrible experience with the guy who works here who is supposedly the manager! Right off the bat he was extremely rude when I asked about the menu. I bought this small sub which was 13$ for which a transaction fee was charged. I asked him about it as it is not common to charge a transaction fee at any other place. Him: Arrogantly responds YES they do You do know about it! And walks away after charging my card! I asked him for a receipt. Him: The transaction is done I can't give you the receipt. I asked for the manager. Him: I am the manager I don't give receipts! And starts talking to someone on the phone ignoring me. I asked if there is a list of veggies toppings that I could add to Sub. Him: We don't maintain lists here. What do want to add? At this point I was very agitated by the service I requested for a refund. Him: I can't give you a refund the card is already charged. I asked him to call the owner and check on the same. Him: owner is not responding. The owner does not know how to print the receipt or give the refund either! At this point I decided to get the sub and walk away and decided not to go back. It is very surprising that restaurant staff/ manager is 1. Not trained on how to print receipts 2. Don't know how to void the transaction or give a refund 3. And is Disrespectful the customer and is extremely rude. This is such a disappointment for a person who has been regular customer at the other location! read more

What a great addition to Park Avenue! I have heard about Calabreselle's for years but never had the opportunity to give them a try. So glad that a friend picked the newer location on Park Ave to get together. The restaurant is small with limited seating and parking but the environment is exactly why you would hope for from a nice little deli. Clean and nicely decorated and furnished with deli appropriate furniture and swag it's far from fancy but definitely welcoming. The shelves are stocked with various deli and local items... We even picked up some stocking stuffers. The staff was great, patiently explaining several menu items and engaging in chit chat... But not so much that they didn't keep things moving along. A very nice balance of friendly and efficiency. A sandwich is a sandwich but sometimes one stands out. I had a basic turkey sub. Fantastic, fresh bread, generous meat and fresh toppings... I recommend a little Thousand Island dressing in lieu of May but suit yourself. The Mac salad was very good too. I have been only moderately impressed with other deli oriented establishments in the area. Calabreselle's is my new favorite! read more

Love this place! There subs are so good! Their prices are great! They pile the meat on and it's good quality meat.This place is one of the only places I will order a steak sub from because it's "seasoned " so well. I can't stand having a steak sub that isn't seasoned... They use real ribeye, not the fake crap. I got banana peppers on it and American cheese. So Good! Check out the picture below.. we also got a roast beef wrap with provolone, LTM, banana peppers and Italian dressing. It's was really good. The roast beef was top quality and seasoned. My boyfriend and I live very close to this spot and when we want a sub that is super delicious, we walk down the street and order our usual Colon Kicker and BLT. Everyone is super friendly and the cook is hilarious, he makes the food with love and care. It's not messy like most subs. One day my boyfriend and I wanted a breakfast sandwich, we always go to Starbucks or Tim Hortons but this time we went here and they had a few breakfast sandwiches on the menu. I got the bacon, egg and cheese and my boyfriend got the sausage, egg and cheese with peppers. When we got our subs, we opened them up and they smelt so delicious. It took longer than usual but we didn't mind waiting. we had an amazing view of Park Avenue and there were so many people out, enjoying the weather. On my last night in town my brother asked "what's one more place you want to eat? food you can't get in TX!" so naturally I had to go with some real NY sandwiches. I'd never heard of this spot before, but the pictures and description of their signature "colon kicker" sucked me right in. I went in to order 4 large subs and some random deli sides that my whole family planned on sharing so we could sample a little of everything. Our favorites were the colon kicker (if you like spicy, you must try this) and the Reuben, as well as the tri colored pasta salad. All of the subs were loaded with meat, served on fresh rolls, and absolutely delicious. I also can't say enough great things about the staff. It actually may have been the owner(s) that helped me, and I was so touched by how kind they were, especially given the giant order I threw at them pretty close to their 6pm close time. It was evident they're super passionate about the business. I only visit ROC 2-3x per year, but I'm already looking forward to adding them to my takeout rotation when I'm in town. Lovely sandwich and sweets shop. Owners are delightful and helpful. And funny! And kind. Sandwiches are B I G. We split a special hot pastrami Rueben sandwich sans cheese and got a carrot cake slice sans walnuts. Both were delicious and hit the spot. There is seating for dining in but we had to hit the road. The seating area is nice though and spacious. They made us take some paper plates for our lunch in the car and it was a good call. The Rueben sandwich was really good. The dressing and sauerkraut were terrific and the bread roll was awesome. Total delight. We will come back. Close to U Rochester river campus. Thumbs up! read more

I'm a huge fan of their steak sandwiches, which come on the most delicious roll and are packed to the brim with steak and your choice of toppings. Today 9/9/23 was the worst service I have ever received at to date. Waiting 20 minutes to be told that my order ticket was lost "I don't know what happened to it"; to then have my order for food miraculously appear is an embarrassment to an otherwise great deli. The staff was rude and inattentive to my needs after placing the order. I was asked after waiting 15 minutes if I "wanted to cash out", when I had paid for my food at the time of order. When asking an employee behind the counter to check on my order, I was basically ignored. I have had good device in the past and perhaps today 'was just one of those days' but I will think twice about going to Calabresella's on Park again. read more

Today though, today all the stars aligned. The staff was super friendly and genuine, you get the cool park ave vibe, combined with absolute excellent food, what's not to love? The subs are nicely stuffed. Ingredients are fresh. The people behind the counter are proud of where they work, and rightfully so. A half dozen round marble pedestal tables with heavy wooden chairs, and stone tile floors sets a European tone to this Rochester city deli. The owner himself brought out our feast. As far as length of the sandwiches, my "large" appeared to be the same length as the small subs, not sure why. But there was plenty to eat. The corned beef was lean and thinly sliced, perfect! Private parking lot, very convenient. The restroom was well-maintained. The artwork on their walls are pictures of their very own fare, which is well justified because the sandwiches are like little works of art. Smooth coffee. Customizing an order is no problem for them. I got sauerkraut on my corned beef sub, my wife got Parmesan cheese sprinkled on her meatball sub, etc. The four of us in my party were quite pleased. If the Italian deli is done right, its a thing of simplistic beauty. This place may not have the hanging sopressata, fresh mootz, or the butcher....but this small little nook near the hotel delivers a great sub (I'd call it a grinder...but I'm in Roch). Lots of prepped salads (mac, marinated mushroom, etc..). Fresh everything, great service, and fresh made gelato in the freezer. They also sell Utica riggie sauce for the homesick Central NYers. This Connecticut raised kid is a happy man...No it's not Arthur Ave but in a pinch this place is a gem. read more

Scaled back as it is, they have a small of local goods here, which you can peruse while waiting for your DELICIOUS food. I came here last night. Luckily I saw a D&C article that said they were open until 8:00. The hours for their other location are listed as only being open until 6:00. I came around 6:45. I thought they might be super busy since they just opened, but I parked easily, and it was just me and one other person when I went in. They do need to setup a place to order and a place to pay. It got confusing when more people showed up, and we were all just waiting in a clump. It would have been easy for someone to leave without paying because it was very unclear who was waiting for what. Everyone working there was very nice, but it was just a confusing setup. Since they're brand new, hopefully they work that out. I'm vegetarian, so I got a cheese sub. The bread looked really good and soft, and it was in places, but the ends were so hard that I couldn't eat them. There was a lot of cheese on it, and the mayonnaise they used was good. It was a very good sub. It would have been great if the bread was softer. I also tried their macaroni salad. My husband and I both agree it was a little too tangy for us (like a Miracle Whip type taste) but he and I have the same taste in macaroni salad, lol. I'm not sure what it cost, but I got a medium, and they filled it to the top. It was a lot of macaroni salad.
