First time ever, dissatisfied with Reuben. Sandwich itself appeared to be smaller but more important, meat lacked flavor and was chewy. Had the consistency as if purchased at local supermarket. so disappointed.My friend and i went for lunch.the matzaball soup was green and the oil was floating on top and tasted terrible. the matzah balls were whole wheat and tasted like sawdust . our turkey sandwiches were not on Jewish rye more like store bought commercial bread. Stopped in with co-worker for lunch on Thursday and ordered what might be the BEST Reuben I've ever had... and I've had A LOT of them at dozens and dozens of places over the years. I had the 1/2 pound ... and it was plenty! If you order the 1 lb or the 2 LB you better get a box, or be wearing elastic waistband pants! read more

Used to go to Fox's with my father years ago. Went with brothers and friend a few weeks ago when visiting Rochester. Not much has changed over the years including portion size. Service was excellent, food was good and plenty. Recollection of years gone by brought to the present. Casual, comfortable establishment which has lasted many years filling a niche. read more

I was craving latkes and heard Fox's Deli was the place to go. We arrived and were seated immediately.The booths are comfy and the dining room is decorated with custom designed posters of the menu choices. Very fun. We ordered matzo ball soup and latkes to start. The soup broth was incredibly comforting. I will need to remember fox's when I am sick and craving soup broth. The latkes were exactly what I needed. You get 4 per order. We enjoyed them with sour cream and apple sauce. They were crispy and flavorful. I ordered a patty melt with fries. My husband order the Rueben with fries. The sandwiches come with chips; fries were a $2.50 up charge. We could have ordered one serving of fries and shared; as they give you large portions. The fries were perfect. Processed turkey meat for a sandwich? Check Rye bread that looks like a kids school lunch bread (this looks like Brooklyn Pickle rye they have in Syracuse...equally bad)? Check Staff forgetting knish (and the mustard) in the order? Check Staff forgetting mustard after asking a second time? Check Pre packaged (mostly) everything in the display case (including the salmon!) Check Millennials yapping w each other fully disengaged w order which screwed up twice on my order? Check Knishes that were nuked to a soggy mess? Check Very sad what's happened to this once reliable deli when in Rochester. Don't half ass a deli....a lot of us originally from the NYC tri-state area know the difference. My sister told me about this deli. We went here for a late lunch. You do not go hungry here. The service here was friendly and made our expierence enjoyable. My sister liked the Ike & Tina sandwich & cole slaw. This is the first time I've had matza ball soup. This is not something I would order again. The potato salad was delishious. Delicious! I am particularly partial to Jewish Delis for the latkes and the dessert case, and Fox's Deli was no exception. The snickerdoodle cookie was probably the besar snickerdoodle I've ever had. I tried Matzo ball soup for the first time, and with the latkes it made a great comfort meal for a cold day. The deli was very busy on a Saturday at lunch time for sit-down dining. I opted for take out and didn't have to wait long. I'll be back to try one of their sandwiches and more desserts! read more

Fox's deli came highly recommend, and I drove from Webster just to try the matzo ball soup and the Reuben sandwich. The soup was so awful that I should have sent it back. The matzo ball was dark in color, hard as a rock, and sank to the bottom of the bowl. The broth was tasteless, and even adding salt and horseradish didn't help. I still can't get rid of the taste out of my memory. The Reuben sandwich was full of pastrami, but the dressing also lacked flavor which was extremely disappointing. The side of cole slaw was good but also bland. Neither the server nor the upfront manager asked me how I liked my meal. That's alright, now they will have my honest response. I wish there were a way to give Fox's 10 stars. I have been coming to this deli since 1970s. We stopped in the other day 15 minutes before they were ready to close. We had their latkes, and I ordered some pastrami and corned beef to take home. My husband had the patty melt. I thought I died and went to heaven. I am Jewish and where we live in Watertown New York. there is simply no place like this. The staff was just simply wonderful. Very accommodating. The food... Out of this world. We split a Reuben with 1/2 pound corned beef - delicious with plenty of lean corned beef (but you get 1 pound and even 2 pound sandwiches). The cabbage soup was so tasty with its sweet and sour tang. Best was the cheese blintz we ordered for our dessert - served with sour cream, cherries, and applesauce condiments. A perfect meal. Also there are wonderful drinks - we ordered a Dr. Brown's root beer, but you can get a phosphate, seltzer, or even a chocolate egg cream drink. Fox's is amazing! read more

This was not the entry I was expecting to make when you go to what once was a Rochester staple for delicious authentic and classically known for its Jewish-American food...it was so disappointing, and pretty sad really. For a Saturday lunch hour that used to be crowded and super busy, was found with minimal tables occupied and not much of an energized atmosphere. I ordered a Ruben and side order of knosh and my partner tried one of their bacon-blue burgers found as one of their "wall specials" my Ruben was nothing like what is advertised. Luke-warm, crumbly meat that just wasn't what was pictured on several Facebook posts. My partners bacon-blue burger was "ok" he said but wished they had real blue cheese on it and not a package delivered with the burger of creamy Ken's dressing. Overall, sadly disappointed. read more

OG no. Place doesn't look so great. Service was spotty. Had to ask for napkin and silverware, asked a few times for ketchup and ended up getting it for myself. After that the waitress came by several times to ask if we needed anything else. I'm not going to ask for anything else if you don't bring what I asked for in the first place. Fries were great, stuffed cabbage delicious. Chicken soup came to the table and she spilled some on the floor. The soup tasted like dishwater, pretty disgusting. Service was terrific. I don't live nearby so it's been a few years and the recipe for matzoh ball soup must have changed. Are you using beef broth instead of chicken? Broth and ball were both so dark! The latkes were okay, but too thick - the potatoes need to be shredded, not sliced on a mandolin! Great spot to have a delicious homemade sandwiches.... Walking in you can see the deli area where they actually slice up all the goodies. I went with their number for me selling sandwich... the Reuben! Hot lean sliced corned beef with melted Swiss cheese.... So amazing! Stopped in for the first time, recently original owner's retired and are now under new ownership. It is easy to tell the new owners (Jason & Alex) really care about making sure their loyal customers continue to feel welcome and happy. I picked up a pastrami on wheat and New York, New York sandwich (Pastrami, Corned beef, Russian dressing & coleslaw) and both were decent. I had the dressing and slaw placed on the side as I had my sandwich at home. Each sandwich comes with a quarter pickle and small bag of lay's chips. Their coleslaw is very good, on the sweeter side. They have a soup of the day, but I went with the Kreplach soup which has such a nice rich beef broth base and Jewish wonton with meatball, very good. Do not leave without getting one of their lemon cookies! They are soft, bright and really make a perfect ending to the meal. Their half-moon cookies, also very tasty with a chocolate base, soft and traditional vanilla/chocolate frosting. Staff was so nice and helpful. Jason & Alex were right out front and center making sure everyone was happy - good to see. Maybe 10-15 minutes total from ordering to pick-up, very efficient. You can also call ahead an order for pick-up or they have full-service tables available as well. I joined the rewards plan when completing and look forward to trying additional soups and almond paste cookies! Double check the times prior to going but currently they are open for lunch hours 11a - 3p Monday - Saturday. They do charge a 2.5% surcharge on all credit purchases, bring cash if you wish to avoid that. My fault for not asking but noticed after the 12oz Dr. Browns cans of soda are $3 each, while good, I might pass on this next time. Probably we went here for the wrong thing-- I was excited to grab some bagels from a Jewish deli before we continued our road trip. However, the bagels were kind of dry and disappointing, and the coffee was bad. Seems like this may be more of a lunch spot where you go for pastrami and other deli sandwiches, but wouldn't recommend for breakfast. We went pretty early in the day but it was pretty dead. Had lunch at Fox's for the first time in awhile and I honestly can't remember why I don't visit more often. I love, love this place and they're delicious food. The Reuben is amazing but my friend had the Oy Vey and it looked just as good. Our server, Ally (Alli?) was so friendly and made sure we had refills. Been to Fox's a number of times, actually since the 1970's, but last week was a complete miss. Pastrami on Rye... No marbling at all in the meat. As a consequence it was quite chewy and dry. For the first time ever I did not finish my sandwich. Not sure if I ever will take that chance again. read more

I love Fox's! They are such a staple deli in the Rochester area. My favorite thing to get here is their matzo ball soup which is so salty and delightful! For sandwiches, I love their New York, New York, which is corned beef, pastrami, cole slaw, and Russian dressing on rye. For something sweeter, I love their cherry cheese blintz, which is fabulous. My only complaint is that their hours are so hard for me to make as a college student. Other than that, it is wonderful! read more

My first time at Fox's & the greeting I received was so nice & genuine. He took the time to have a conversation with me when he wasn't busy. I ordered a Rueben, the kreplach & a cookie with sprinkles. I ordered mine to go but they do offer full service also. When I got home I opened up my sandwich box. It was a little bit smaller then what I expected for $14 but it did come with a pickle & a small bag of chips. They even wrap the pickle separately so it doesn't get your sandwich soggy. The ratio of meat, sauerkraut & sauce was good. I had my soup the next day. The broth was a different flavor then I expected. The dumplings had beef in them & were wrapped in a dough that looked homemade. There was a little to much dough for me but it was still a decent soup. I usually drink the broth from my soup but didn't this time since it tasted different then I expected. The cookie had sprinkles & I shared this with my daughter. It was a sugar cookie with the most amazing frosting! It was a good experience and I will be back to try more & get another cookie! read more

Why are you why can't they be open longer hours... One of my favorite lunch places in town. Just reading the menu alone is great for a good laugh then you'll notice the accompanying artwork on the walls to match the clever names for all of the dishes.
