Lipman's needs to up their game when it comes to sandwiches. Bread will make or break. Mine was becoming stale.

A classic jewish deli, Lipman's Kosher Market offers meats, prepared foods, and snacks. They also offering catering and sandwich options from their small location on Monroe Avenue. I had the pastrami sandwich on rye with mustard. It was $11.99 and included pickles and chips. The bread was soft and included a large portion of tender pastrami. It was worth the visit. read more

Love their pastrami! And I've really loved what the new owners have done here and at Malek's. Good selection, usually friendly, helpful counter staff. Not so much today--they "forgot" the main part of my order somewhere between the counter and register. I got home, discovered the error and trudged back in the snow and the cold. My guests had already sat down and were waiting to have lunch. The counter staff immediately apologized when I came in....but then said I had to wait while one of them talked on the phone, then we went back and forth on one of the missing items, then they told me how much I owed! I thought, given my total, that I had already paid. Waited still longer while they brought up the wrong receipt, finally said, with a smile, "You know, some places would comp this because of what you put me through." The guy in charge got kind of belligerent, and told me to "just take it." I asked the cashier to ring it up--if I owe it, I owe it, and I pay it.. Paid my bill, and then said, on my way out, "You just lost a customer." Readers, the guy in charge followed me out of the store yelling at me, FOLLOWED ME TO MY CAR, still yelling. I told him to leave me alone, and he yelled at me that he "didn't appreciate being yelled at." I was truly concerned for my safety, and that cemented my decision not to go back, despite their fantastic pastrami. read more

Not a week goes by where I don't find myself at Lipman's market. Whether it's chopped beef liver, semi-dry salami, freshly ground lamb or a bone-in ribeye steak, everything I have tried from the Market is delish-knish. Their selection of other products such as frozen chopped chicken liver or chicken sausage links are also quite good. Aharon is there most days, always one to exchange some kind words with patrons of the store as well as providing service with a smile. I'm from a town that does not have a kosher butcher and I was so excited to visit Lipman's and bring some things home with me. The first thing I noticed was how dirty the display case was. I decided I would still order anyway thinking it probably had been a busy day and they hadn't gotten to cleaning up yet. The person who took my order was nice and and packed up my deli meat. When he handed back my receipt and credit card, I noticed that he was still wearing the dirty gloves from packing up the meat and everything including my card was slimy. Then he handed me my order in a plastic bag which was also slimy and dirty. My order was pretty expensive and I was pretty upset about the whole experience. read more

I am a college student who is quite a ways from home. I have found myself missing the comforts that I have been used to and wanted a good sandwich and pickles especially. A friend and I decided to come to Lipman's Kosher Market because it was relatively close to us and I am so glad we did! Not only was the turkey pastrami sandwich and pickles great! But, the owner was the kindest person and I felt incredibly at home while waiting for my food. read more

A good family friend's wife passed away recently and as they were Jewish, we wanted to make sure to provide a delicious kosher meal during shiva. As there's no Jewish delis in Syracuse, I found Lipman's online. I called Lipman's and spoke to a very nice gentleman. He wanted to check with a few delivery people before he quoted delivery, as we were having the meal delivered from Rochester to their home in Syracuse. Incidentally, Lipman's delivers all over upstate New York. The price was extremely reasonable for both the quality of the meal and the delivery. It was a beef brisket, traditionally brined and blessed by the two rabbis on site. A kugel, salad, and an assortment of rugelach rounded out the order. The family was so pleased. They had remarked that they knew the market in name, but had never tasted their food before. Everyone raved about the quality and taste. You won't find better or more kosher food in upstate New York than you'll find at Lipman's. I can't recommend an establishment more highly, especially with the customer service received. read more

As he only full service kosher butcher between Albany and Cleveland this place could get away with high prices and low quality, but it does just the opposite. Prices are very reasonable - lower than in many large cities, and the quality is first rate. The owner is very friendly and does whatever he can to meet your requests, and he generally does. Service can be a bit slow, even when the place is not busy, but that is a small nit to pick. read more

In searching out a proper corned beef sandwich, I figured that logically the right place to start would be a kosher deli. Evidently, I was wrong about this particular kosher deli. I walked into Lipman's and told the very kind gentleman behind the counter that I had been searching for a good corned beef sandwich in the Rochester area. He told me to look no further. I asked for a corned beef sandwich on rye with russian dressing. I received a sandwich with a mere two layers of rubbery corned beef that had obviously been frozen and thawed too many times. It lacked flavor and had an unsettling consistency. I was surprised to learn that a kosher deli does not have russian dressing, so I supplemented with coleslaw. The coleslaw was watery and flavorless as well. Lastly, I did not receive rye bread but rather cakey whole wheat bread. I took a few bites and decided to have lunch at Ken's pizza corner down the street instead. If you are in town and looking for a good corned beef sandwich, I would look elsewhere. I will not be recommending this place. read more

Lipman's is one of my favorite places in Rochester and I don't go nearly enough. The meats are fantastic, the sandwiches are wonderful, and I always grab some pickled fish and crackers for later. They're always very welcoming of a gentile like me. read more

Very friendly staff. Food was nothing special, you could probably get the same quality food at a school cafeteria. Facility itself was dirty, and for that reason alone I would not return. read more
