It's just an efficient system for making subs and transferring them into my mouth. I said hi to the lady at the counter, and our brief conversation led me to believe that she was also hungover. Sensing this kindred spirit, I asked, "If you were me, what would you order?" "Hot steak sub," came the immediate answer. I believed her, and appreciated that she didn't react with disgust at the thought of being me. So I got a hot steak sub. The largest size they had, with mushrooms and peppers and onions and provolone. It came out, and it was massive. And delicious. Tender steak, plenty of flavor, everything I needed in that moment. I only ate about 3/4 of it, because I knew I'd regret eating the whole thing. Not because of what it would do to my insides, but because my wife loves a steak sub, and I wanted to bring her some. Stopped here while driving thru the area for a quick lunch. Fast service, fresh bread, fair prices. Cold sub was good, the warm subs with chicken were a little weird texture and consistency wise. Man, You know i had to pass up the Chicken Finger Subs, for a Meatball Sub. My girl went for the Chicken Fingers since she eats very little red meat. I had to try the meatball. If you are a breakfast sandwich person, you have got to give them a try. $5 gets you a 6" (homemade!) roll, eggs, your choice of meat (bacon, ham, sausage), your choice of cheese (American, swiss, provolone, shredded cheddar), AND grilled veggies (peppers, onions, and/or mushrooms). After reading many glowing reviews of this place, particularly in regards to prices and portions, I decided to drop in today. Luckily for me, the special today was Beef on Weck - one of my faves. Unluckily for Desiatos, it's a tough task to compete with the beef on weck served at Pok-A-Dot (Batavia) and at Charlie the Butcher (Buffalo). I'm also not sure if the reviews that I read were pre-pandemic or not, but a small was $7 and DEFINITELY very small. The staff was exceptionally friendly, and service was extremely fast. As for the food - the roll was excellent, but the meat was not. I'd say it was average. The size of roll dominated the minor amount of meat. Also, I haven't seen a beef on weck before where the meat was so red, and it showed absolutely no signs of being dipped or soaked in any sort of au jus (neither did the roll). Typically, this is supposed to be a messy sandwich, but this one was neat and tidy. Overall, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't mind blowing either. I was still hungry after eating it. read more

This was our first trip to Desiato's, and it went like this...First off there's plenty of off-street parking in this little strip plaza...Next the joint is clean, very clean and that's always a good thing...The staff at the counter were super friendly and that's always a nice touch nowadays...We ordered a large cheeseburger sub on a sesame roll with onions, cheese, lettuce, mayo and meat sauce...Folks it was a monster and so tasty and well prepared for sure...This baby was at least 14 inches long and baked to perfection...We also got an order of well-done fries and again it was yet another triumph of flavor and a good size portion to boot...The damage was about $19.00 with tax...Folks this place serves it up BIG time and we'll definitely be back soon, real soon...You gotta check this place out... read more

These people in Iowa have strange feet. I've seen many normal toes and many weird toes in my days, but none more unusual than "Dese IA Toes." Okay, no, I can't back that up. What else: Gumbo but they only have it from around 11. So what else: Well you should get there a little before 11 so you can get both! I went to India and asked for a black coffee, but they only had white coffee down there. They call them "Desilattés." Curious. Desiatos has one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had anywhere. It's absolutely enormous and it isn't overpriced either, around $5 for basically a huge breakfast sub on absolutely amazing homemade bread. Did you know that the Atolls out in the Pacific were used for Nuclear testing? Those must now be some radioactive, "Deadlyatolls." The service is pretty good and most of the things here are homemade. I wasn't crazy about their roast beef sub. I think because they are minimalists, so if you want it loaded with all kinds of great stuff you have to specify exactly what you want on it, otherwise it ends up coming out pretty bland and ordinary tasting. Why does Ashton Kutcher's older ex never seem to look any older, ever? From when she was in Ghost to GI Jane to Striptease to now. I call her "Demiageless." The soups are really good too. The homemade Chili is nice, not the best I've ever had but tasty. The Gumbo on the other hand is surprisingly excellent. A lot of places really butcher gumbo (no pun intended) especially over in Buffalo. Not Desiato's. They have it exactly right. I would avoid the roast beef and get a brekky and some gumbo. And whatever you do, don't go to a breakfast sit down chain instead of coming here. If for no other reason than the chain has really bad service. The waiters are all jerks. If your like me you've passed this place enough times and said "I need to try it." So today I did.. It's in a strip mall, you walk in its all white and clean. Plenty of places to sit and plenty of stuff to order. Subs, salads & etc. Yes they have those soup specials.. But that bread.. It's soft and easy to eat.. The toppings the usual suspects.. I liked my sub but it needed something.. Maybe I should have gotten some gardenire or something for a little bite/heat. Everything is super fresh.. Prices are good and the small its LARGE... No joke. Great service and nice people, we decided to sit at one of the tables outside in the shade. They have excellent house made rolls, the meatballs and sauce had good flavor but they were barely warm and the cheese was fresh from the fridge cold a real let down.. While lots of places offer soup options you can't beat Desiato's. They usually have two soups plus chili on special every day and, unlike so many places, all of them are obviously homemade. My go to is a bowl of soup and a small sub which fills me up and often leaves some to take home for later. The bread, soooo good, is freshly baked daily. I always save the specials calendar for each month so I make sure I don't miss out on the goulash or any of the other great daily specials. read more

There are a number of reasons to go here: 1. The breakfast sandwiches. For less than 5 bucks, you get a sandwich with fresh bread, egg they make right in front of you and your choice of meat/veggies/cheese and it is the size of your head. You can get a free coffee with it too. I can't think of anywhere else where you get that much for so little money, and it's enough to keep you full all day. They generally stop serving them at 11, but on more than one occasion they've been nice enough to make them for me after noon because I lost track of time (oops). 2. Homemade soups and rotating specials. Often with something free. You can look at the menu on their website and figure out when you want to come in, but they've got everything from beef on weck to italian wedding soup available on a weekly basis. 3. Family owned - a nice alternative to all of the chains in the area. 4. You can order online with grubhub. They generally have discount cards in the store, so pick one up when you go in then get your co-workers to put an order together next time! read more

The small was not small at all and the bread so was so fresh. Turkey was turkey but hey that's usually what you get with a turkey sub! This place has a lot of GREAT elements but overall they don't add up for me. I consider the subs to just be 'okay'. The bread is amazing, you can tell its freshly baked and not in some machine like device. It actually seems handmade. The prices are pretty good, about 9 bucks for a large which is on par with the rest of the places locally I've tried. The staff is friendly and the place is clean and inviting. I guess its the cold cuts that don't impress me. They taste okay but the texture is weird making me think its some lower end branch of meat, more like shopping at Tops deli instead of getting your meat at Wegmans. Still, the sandwiches are filling and it beats Subway or Jimmy Johns by a mile! And I have to agree with another Yelper who posted about the Beef on Weck. This aint it. Don't even call it that please! You gotta have a real salty Kimmelweck roll and the roast beef they are using just isn't up to pulling it off. For the price, it was not what I would consider a 'special' by any means. I hate to knock a small business so let me add this....the chili is some of the best I've ever had! Its obviously homemade and not some doctored up canned version. The other side salads seem to be made on site as well.
