I have been here several times and I can attest that if they get a tad busy the kitchen is extremely slow. "we don't have enough kitchen workers" the waitress said. We have waited over an hour on several visits for our food and we are only a party of 2. Some of their prices are expensive, over $4 for a cup of soup. Their drinks are inconsistent, depending on who is the bartender that night. We will not be back. Their food is just okay and definitely not worth the wait. Tried this place out for breakfast and it wasn't great. The hostess and waitress were very nice but service was incredibly slow. My hash browns were undercooked and my English muffin was so burnt it was so overcooked, it was totally inedible. Not sure why the waitress would even serve it. It's a cool looking bar. Food is good. We drive quite aways to get here but it was good last time so our party of 5 made the trip out. However, this was the single worst service we have ever received. The waitress was rude...cut us off mid order. It then took over an hour to get our food which came out all separate. My Mother had to take her chicken homE AFTER ALMOST 2 HOURS! What could go wrong did go wrong at the fault of our waitress. She put our chicken orders in wrong to begin with and she ended up bringing ribs we didn't order. So, we had to wait for chicken an extra 20 minutes on top of the already long wait. I ate there on Friday for dinner with my family, 4 adults and 1 child with 2 mixed drlinks for $87.00. We all had the 1/3 pound hamburger with fries, 1 order of cheese curds and Mac and cheese. The burgers were frozen patties, Mac and cheese was box , water tasted like it was well water not filtered and the lemonade with vodka had a strange taste. The "Sloppy Jane" which is a vegetarian Sloppy Joe was a marinara sauce and mushrooms on a bun. There was so much marinara the bun became soggy and I used a fork and knife to eat it. Very fun place! I love the theme of old western and they did a great job incorporating it everywhere. We came on a Saturday evening around 7pm and were seating right away. After a long day at the nearby water park, we were really hungry. Our hostess was very nice, I can't remember if she introduced herself. We had 2 kids with us and their menu seemed to appeal to them no problem. I got the veggie quesadilla and it was pretty good. I would say a little too greasy though. That night there was also some entertainment and everyone had a great time listening to the live band. I would have given a 5 star review, but our waitress didn't give us napkins or utensils at all and it was hard trying to find her. We ended up stealing them from the empty set up table behind us. And since my quesadilla was super greasy, I definitely needed more than one napkin. She did end up giving us a stack once she noticed my struggle but we were 3/4 done with our meal. Came here after spending the day at the water park next store. We came in and felt welcomed right from the start. The decore alone made me feel like I walked into a time where people cared about other people. The staff made us feel that way but it also delivered on food. A few things on the menu stood out. I was torn between the brisket sandwich or the Sunday special chicken and ribs with potato wedges. The wedges were crispy and flaky, seasoned to perfection. The ribs fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. The crispy chicken was moist and delicious. read more

I really want to love this place... but today was a bummer. I killed 3 flies in a span of 20 minutes. The waitress did a good job, considering she was the only server for a busy lunch hour. I had to ask for refills on my beverages and the cowboy cavier wasn't what I was expecting, with all the oil, it's more of a salsa. Chips seem to be generic and not made in-house. I had enjoyed previous visits, so I'll keep stopping by when in the area. They offer daily specials. It's a roadhouse on Rt. 47 in the middle of cornfields on the far west side of the Chicago Megalopolis, and by appearance alone, you'd think it would be full of large gruff guys with bandanas, beards, leather and poor attitudes. But no, it's a warm home-style atmosphere with a pleasant staff. Actually the place is more like a Wisconsin Supper Club than anything else, and if you read my wiseacrings here, you know I haven't found a Wisco supper club I didn't like. The Menu shows flashes of ambition, as many Wisco-type joints do. The first nugget catching my eye was a starter "Pork Wings". Huh? Pigs flying is not usually a positive metaphor, but in this case "Pork Wings" are morsels of Pork done up in the manner of Buffalo Wings. Great with a foamy hop-flavored adult beverage (go figure), although I was swinging with Guinness. They were good, too! My Entree was a special-for-the-day Prime Rib, which entitled me to a dose of soup, French Onion in this case, with gooey cheese and substantial crouton. Also very very tasty. The Beef was a generous cut, seasoned well and as good as Prime Rib can get. A fine feed, don't you know. Prices were no shock to the wallet, even for the libations. I'm throwing 4 for this place, 'cos it was a laid-back enjoyable experience with yummy food. Perhaps not a destination for city dwellers, but well worth the drive for those out their way. I should also menchen I was there that evening to see my Pals the Ron Porter Trio, who provided a nice dinner show of familiar music played and sung very well, at moderate volume (and I was sitting up front). My Bacon is Achin' when you can't find the time to make a respectable grilled cheese sandwich. It has taken me 12 years before having the courage to write this review, but I believe it is time. I created the logo for this company. Yep, the beautiful sign with the fun rope letters and the horse that reads Calamity Jane's is stolen artwork. The owner's husband hired me to create a logo for them (I am a graphic designer). On the phone, he sounded like a great guy. I spent about 15 hours creating their logo. Then crickets. I didn't hear from him anymore. The next thing I know, I am driving by and see a sign hanging up with my artwork! I couldn't believe it! I called him and he said that he didn't owe me anything because we didn't have a "written contract". So, at 6 months pregnant, I took him to court. That was the first time I have ever even entered a courtroom. I was young and had no clue what I was doing, I just knew I was dealing with some bad people. It gets worse. Not sure if the owner knew the judge or what, but he basically LIED in court and got away with it!! So, not only was I out the money he owed me for my time, I was out the court fees as well. This also goes to show you the court system does not have your back. I had all my emails and documentation that showed I created the logo and the judge even said to him, "You're telling me that you got this artwork and it just happens to look the exact same as your graphic designers...that sounds like a one in a million chance" ....YET, the judge sided with him because Jim lied and said he didn't use my work. Anyway, I have to drive past this place every Sunday on my way to church and it still makes me sick to my stomach that people like this get away with things. It's sad. read more

Solid 3 star place. They serve up some pretty decent burgers and their jalapeño shooters make for a good appetizer. The service is fine. Nothing to write home about or chastise for. We like to go for a quick meal when we're just in the mood for a fairly quick bite. They also have pretty good fries, but like many other bar and grill restaurants, some days are better than others. Although this place has a bar type atmosphere, they do have seating other than at the bar. This makes it just fine to take the kids along. The prices are reasonable. I would recommend trying this place if it's convenient for you, but not road trip worthy or anything. read more

The bloody Mary's aren't the best but so far we've enjoyed everything. My mom lives out in that area so every time I drive from my house I make sure to stop for a Moscow mule! Pros: Good root bear (no free refills though) Cons: Just about everything else. On a Monday night both of us tried the meatloaf special. It tasted like cafeteria food. The meatloaf was very bland, the potatoes had no flavor and the vegetables were way over cooked. The only redeeming factor was that the gravy wasn't too bad. The service was horrible. Our glasses stood empty quite often and there should be no excuse for this especially when there were only about five or six other groups in the restaurant that night. Unfortunately this restaurant is like many other Plain Jane restaurants out there. If you're up for some mediocre food at best, then give it a shot. read more

This place was a pleasant surprise. Having lived in the area and driven past hundreds of times, I've been apprehensive to stop because of its location, attached to the gas station. Last night we didn't feel like heading out far, so we decided to stop. I was surprised with atmosphere. The restaurant is clean, and not at all like the truck stop I had envisioned. The woman who greeted us was friendly, and she was quick to bring us drinks. Our waiter arrived quickly, also. We tried the jalapeno shooters, and they were good. The baked french onion soup was okay. It isn't bad, just a little underwhelming. It does not have the rich flavor that my interpretation of French onion soup has. Even so, I'd order it again. Both my husband and I tried burgers. I ordered the 1/3 pound Calamity burger with cheese. It was cooked just right and the bun was fresh. My husband ordered the 10 oz burger with cheese and jalapenos on a pretzel bun. He was happy with it. He also paid the extra $1 for fries, and they were worth the $1. The prices are a little on the high end for the area- $8.25 for the 1/3 burger with no accompaniments, and $10.25 for the 10 oz burger. As I mentioned, if you want fries, they are a $1 more, and each topping is $0.75. I think including the fries and 1-2 toppings would better justify the original price. Even so, I'll pay the slightly higher prices for convenience, quick service, and a decent meal. read more

Ate here yesterday for dinner. We were a group of nine including four children, adds 1 to 9 years. Food was quite good, and its very kid friendly. Great prices - from $6 to $8 for a sandwich with a pickle, $1 extra for fries or homemade chips, $2 for sweet potato fries, which were tasty. Two of us had the pulled pork sandwich which was excellent (loved the addition of the onion straws on top). My sister had the tuna melt and said it was the best one she had ever had. My husband said the burger was okay, but my dad liked the broasted chicken (the day's special). The kid portions of pasta were very generous. Bar choices were good - they had some good seasonal choices on tap. Service was slow at first but not because our waiter Ryan (good menu suggestions and a great sense of humor) wasn't working his butt off. Ordered Mac and cheese bites because we wanted the onion loaf but it was put, and the waitress recommended the bites instead. They were fine. They were hot and they had Mac and cheese in them. Had a fish sandwich that was also recommended by the waitress - it was hot and quite large. The tomato, lettuce, and onion was fresh. Ordered with the house chips - which really needed some type of seasoning. Husband had the Reuben - he enjoyed it. Daughter had chicken nuggets. They were nuggets - standard issue like what you get from the grocery. Nothing seemed over priced. The entertainment was a duo that sang country music. I am guessing they were father-daughter? There was a lot of feedback from the sound system but I can honestly say, the girl was a talented singer. Even with the corny jokes between songs, it was enjoyable. Overall, was it awesome? No. But I am guessing that is not why people come here. I am guessing people come here ( and a lot do) because people are friendly, they try to be entertaining, drinks are reasonable, and food is ok. I have been here many times, all due to the food not the service. As someone who does not eat meat, it is nice to go to a bar that I can order something other then a grilled cheese - House made veggie burger, Meatless Sloppy Joe's, to name a few. Unfortunately I was there the other night when it was VERY hot outside... AND inside Calamity Jane's. If there was a problem with the AC it would have been appreciated to give an explanation and maybe a free cold beverage!?!? It was seriously hard to choke down warm food in such a warm bar. In addition to atmosphere, service was awful as well. Our server was obviously trying to take care of too many tables and continued to tell us each time she was at our table how awful of a night she was having. One of my biggest pet peeves... a complaining server.
