I ordered online from Burnt Barrel and purchased a steak sandwich with a baked potato, which carried a $3.50 upcharge. Shortly after placing the order, the restaurant called and informed me they were out of baked potatoes. I then asked to substitute roasted red potatoes instead. When I arrived to pick up my order, I was told the roasted red potatoes carried the same upcharge as the baked potato. After leaving I checked their online menu and discovered that was not correct. I called back simply to ask why I was not given accurate information. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the employee on the phone became extremely rude and defensive, repeatedly stating that they "did not lie" and that "people make mistakes." At that point, I explained that the $2 difference was not the issue it was the poor customer service and dishonest communication that mattered. I learned my lesson and unfortunately will not be returning to this establishment. read more

We were driving through the area looking for a place to eat lunch after a trip to the apple orchard. Burnt Barrel Social popped up at the perfect time! I was in the area for my son's basketball game, and BBS came recommended by a friend who lives nearby. After passing many farm fields, there is a cluster of buildings, one of which is this restaurant. There is a host stand right when you walk in. We were promptly greeted and seated. They have a beautiful, large bar area with ample, well-placed TVs throughout. We were here for lunch, so most of us had sandwiches. We also tried their wings and cheese curds. I will say the fries and cheese curds were hits. We had the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was good but could have been a little crisper. The steak sandwich was good, but the bread could have been toasted to stand up better to the meat and toppings. Spotted this place on our way to a nearby baseball field and added it to my list. We found ourselves having dinner here shortly after. Burnt is a pretty big place. They have a few rooms and a full bar for seating. The menu here isn't huge, but it's sufficient. I'd describe it as having the right amount of classic plates that people look for. I went with their barrel bbq chicken sandwich - an 8 oz grilled black & lemon pepper chicken breast with bourbon bbq sauce, bacon and cheddar cheese. Decent, but they need to upgrade the low-grade cheddar cheese that they use to a better brand. Otherwise, the sandwich was really good. I ditched the standard french fries for a side of seasoned veggies, which were really good. I don't drink anymore, but they appeared to have an aggressive drink menu that would please the masses. We've dined often at both locations, recently more often at the SG location because it's closer to us. Positives... We were seated quickly, our server greeted us quickly and took our drink order. Our drinks were brought in a very timely manner. We then ordered the cheese curds, because if you're at either location, cheese curds ARE a must! Our cheese curds arrived very quickly,at which point our server took our order. I ordered the chicken skewers and was totally pumped when I was told that lobster bisque was a soup option, yay! Hubby ordered the pulled pork sandwich with extra crispy fries. Negatives... After getting the cheese curds, it took at least fifteen minutes for my extremely bland lobster bisque to be brought out by a food runner.I was so disappointed. Our iced teas had been sitting empty, all while our server was hanging out behind the bar, not paying attention to his section, another negative. It was another 10 minutes for our entrees to come out. Hubby's extra crispy fries were limp and cold. My Greek chicken skewers were completely lacking in flavor. Suggestion for the chicken skewers, get rid of the ridiculous amount of feta, cucumbers and Kalamata olives, add a lot more seasoning to the chicken and you'll have a winner. A true hidden gem! Love love looooved our bartender and the decor was surprisingly SUPER cute. I was not expecting this in sugar grove for some reason. It's actually nicer than the other location I've previously been to. The steak nachos and chili are a MUST. I loved the back to basics old fashioned and apple whiskey margarita. Only complaint was the menu pricing didn't match what they actually charged... so I would just say work on that so there is nothing people can complain about. Don't add extra hidden fees to the cocktails without communication. Will definitely be back as the food, drinks, and customer service were all on point. I love Burnt Barrel. I have been coming here for as long as I can remembered. This location is newer than the other location but the quality is the same. My favorite and go-to burger is the Brat Burger. It is amazing. The location is here is much bigger and there is more room for everyone without feeling squished. Great for groups! Service is top notch and I always get great service here My only "issue" is that the menu is similar but we noticed the grilled cheese is different. My wife prefers the Yorkville way of cooking it where things are chopped up. Overall, I am a fan and will come back. I live right in the middle of both locations so that is convenient. read more

We have frequently patronized this establishment but this will not be the case going forward. Very nice looking bar and restaurant . Have been there several times...each time we seem to have trouble with service. Our recent visit was on a Thursday at an off time so they were not busy. Sat at the bar to have lunch and drinks. Greeted promptly but then were basically ignored after we got our food. Despite having an empty glass in front of me for about 15 minutes. Such a great place and a wonderful addition to Sugar Grove. I have been now 4 times so I have a pretty good feel of the menu, setting and service. Each time we have always really liked our meals. Each week they always have an awesome limited edition menu. I swear the meatball sub tasted just like the meatballs that I loved from Gina's subs that closed 15 years ago. I ate a bite and was transformed to 2005. The star here is the fully customizable build your own grilled cheese, such a fun concept! The fries have just a tiny bit of potato skin on them and are perfectly crispy. Best of all is they have the best music all the time, I need a burnt barrel Spotify playlist! I wanted to love it, such a cool place. Fish and chips were average at best. They were not crispy at all, same with fries, which tells me the oil was not hot enough. Also, if they added beer to the batter it would help the taste as well as the batter cooks better with beer added. Our party of eight visited the Burnt Barrel in Sugar Grove on Sunday night. The food and appetizers were good. I ordered the cod and fries and requested that they be salt-free. The waitress suggested having the cod grilled to avoid sodium. Great idea and the cod and fries were as salt-free as they could be. Other individuals in our party experienced good food with different dishes. I am wheelchair-bound. Upon arrival, we parked in a handicapped space. In particular, the handicapped space (on the steep grade) by the flag pole. This particular spot has a dropoff of about five inches and the lighting is poor to say the least. This dropoff is enough to cause serious injury to a person in a wheelchair. Lucky for me, my son stopped me just in time. read more

I had bought a gift card at Burnt Barrel Social for a friend. When the friend tried to use the gift card at the Sugar Grove location, they refused to take it saying that it can only be used at the Yorkville location. NO where on the gift card purchase page does it state that said card can be used at only one of the locations. The customer service in relation to the ordering and then use of the gift card was a horrible experience Both restaurants look alike on the websites, have the same menu, etc. to turn down the customer's card where it does not specify where it can and cannot be used is beyond rude and turns us off from frequenting the Sugar Grove location. Bad customer service means finding another restaurant to go to that is accepting of the customer and their payment. You put our friend who was planning to use the gift card that again, does NOT specify a specific location, in a bad situation. Very Disappointing. read more

Went for the second time to give them another try, service from the minute we walked in was horrible. The bartender you could tell was irritated and not happy to be bothered and was too "busy". Had 3 gentleman looked like regulars at the bar. Told us to seat ourselves so we did. Gave us menus utterly rude attitude. Will add is she was drinking and hanging all over the 3 regulars and could've cared less about anything in the restaurant. It was us a party of 3 and the other 3 and that was it. Was rude towards my husband when he got up looking for restroom watched him walk almost into the kitchen looking for it and glaring him done then rudely pointed they are over there. A friend of ours who has poor eyesight due to his job from welding could t see the menu very well he has gotten up no problem with doing so as he does this in darker lit places to look the menu over she looked at her 3 regulars made. A comment and said maybe now he can see and turned the lights all the way up then dimmed them back down as they sat at the bar laughing. After that yesterday I see why they aren't crowded. I've seen the BBS in Yorkville for years now and always wanted to go and check it out, but never actually made it out there. While searching for a dinner spot to go and celebrate then end of my work busy season last Friday, we realized they open a location in Sugar Grove (where we live), so this seemed like an obvious choice. We headed over there around 5:30pm. The parking lot was packed, so we almost didn't even go in to check the wait. To my surprise, no wait at all, we parked and were seated immediately. The overall decor was great, the wood slab bar looked amazing passing by and I will certainly be back to have a few drinks on it at some point in the future. Our waitress greeted us quickly and we put in an order for some cheese curds to get things moving. Being it was busy, I thought this would buy us some time to order drinks and review the menu for our main dishes. The curbs were out in maybe 5min tops, huge plate, perfectly cooked and I was shocked to see they were only $10. My wife and I order some cocktails and those came out quickly as well (I did the smoked manhattan and she did the old fashioned). Both were insanely well made, and quite frankly the most generous pours I've had in age (and again I was shocked when I saw they were $10-11... good luck finding any place to beat that prices/pour around. Our kids ended up doing some grilled cheese variances and my wife did the flatbread. I decided to the parmesan panko crusted grouper with rice pilaf myself, as I wasn't overly hungry yet and I do love to do fish when I go out. The first bite of the fish I was thinking, woah, that's some good fish. The second bite I'm thinking, that might be the best fish I've ever had (if you love browned cheese, the entire crust is brown parm and in a delicious lemon rose sauce). After the next few bites and giving some to everyone at the table, I'm not thinking this is one of the best dished I have eaten... ever. I've traveled for work for almost 20 years, love good food and have eaten some amazing stuff. This fish is battling for the best thing I can remember, it's that good. The rice pilaf was like pillows of fluffy goodness as well. The only desserts offered were key lime pie and cheesecake, we went with the KLP, as we don't love cheesecake. Oh dear lord, another best of dish I've had in the key lime world. It was perfectly tart and creamy, crust was killer, so good. The overall service was oh point the whole time, all the way from ordering, to busing, to the bill. There wasn't a single areas I wasn't impressed. I have always loved The Turf Room, but after one trip, this is my new go to. 5min from home, large indoor/outdoor seating, the best food and pricing around. The kabobs, a house specialty, were dry as a bone. The zatziki was served in a small plastic condiment cup with a lid. It was unappealing to open the lid and see "SOLO" printed in the sauce. Not very fresh, I guess. I did mention the super dry chicken to the server, but she just brushed it off. It was a meal certainly not worth 18.99! My husband had grilled cheese, which was very good.
