We have driven by here for years so decided to stop in for some food. My husband and son said the burgers were really good they came with what looked like hand punched fries. I ordered chicken wings, and they were abnormally large, which kind of freaked me out. They were good and had some sort of light coating on them maybe seasoning before frying? I am very particular about Bleu cheese dressing, and theirs is great! Drink prices seemed reasonable. We'll definitely stop back next time we are in town. read more

Pretty brave stuff opening up a sports bar right in the middle of a pandemic that claimed sports as an early victim. Hell, sports may be immaterial going forward anyway. MLB just shot itself in their greedy feet, NBA are too woke to play, maybe college football and NFL will get their houses in order before the season is supposed to start--but at the rate of change for our society now, who knows if someone won't decide that football is just slavery in pads and helmets? It's all exhausting. That's where Calhoon's "19th Hole" Saloon fits in. They are perfectly situated on Highway 17 to collect that rag tag bunch of golfers that shuttle between Azalea Sands and Beachwood golf courses--where triple bogeys are plentiful and bogeys are the norm. None of the golf on either of these courses is likely to be mistaken for PGA caliber golf--ever. Most of us golf poorly and Calhoon's is a good place to relive our frankly horrorifying displays on the fairways and the grotesqueries of the greens BUT to also celebrate the odd and uncommon instances where we completely mastered the vagaries of golf and made it to the green in regulation and maybe actually sank a putt for a birdie. Calhoon's is new, so no draft beer yet. That needs to be reckoned with--soon. Also, no fountain sodas yet or water in a glass. But the bottled beer was cold and Mrs. Calhoon will keep them coming. Get the Spicy Cheese Curds--they will accelerate your beer consumption and are crunchy, spicy, and just about perfect. The Carolina Mustard wings were dry on the outside and juicy, hot inside. There are wet options too but I never do well with saucy wings--there usually aren't enough wet wipes available to take care of my sloppiness. I ordered maybe the most boring burger on the menu, just a basic cheeseburger, but it was cooked to order and delicious. Now, except for the lack of draft beer, my only other area for improvement might be the seating because after about 30 minutes, a person of my age and ballast will begin to notice the tall, metal chairs are not getting softer and more agreeable. Quite the contrary. Is Calhoon's Just Another Pittsburgh Bar In NMB? Could be, but location, service, good food, and heart matter. Give them a try. They're some brave folks working hard for y'all. read more

I am a supporter of any local business that opened during the pandemic, a special set of circumstances really support their decision to open. I had the cheesesteak sandwich. it was less than admirable. A few pieces of steak-umm and Worcestershire sauce. Not that great. My guests had good meals, I just made a poor decision. I am sure I'd go back, they were nice and it was clean. Go there, give it a shot, just dont get the cheesesteak. read more

On time delivery. Mustard wings and fried pickles were good. Boneless bbq wings looked like it came from a Walmart freezer bag then bbq sauce leaked on. Steak tasted like it was old and marinated in Clorox. The salt and pepper seasoning couldn't mask how awful this steak was. This steak was out of a pack from a local all purpose meat bin. Mashed potato's were good. I almost never review but this one burned a little bit because everything but the mashed potato's are still here and it's the next day and it looks virtually untouched like it was left in a time capsule. While on vacation, visited (9/22/20) this establishment based on previous reviews and to support a local restaurant, that opened during the pandemic. We arrived around 4:30 and there were 3 people at the bar and two couples at tables outside. The bartender didn't greet us and walked passed us as we stood awaiting to be greeted & seated. When asked do we sit anywhere when she returned, she said sure. A few minutes later she came over and asked if we wanted a drink; still no greeting or giving of her name. That was the last time we saw her at our table. 5-10 minutes later "Joe" arrived and he was better, as we did get his name and he came over several times to take our order and check if we needed any refills. Things seemed to pickup when the owner arrived, as he came in with his daughter with restock of ice and beer. He also came by to ask how things were, as we awaited our check. I would say that this is a spot for locals or other "like minded" individuals. Upon leaving we noticed the bartender was now sitting at the bar having a good time with one of the original 3 at the bar. Food was average for a sports bar, portions were generous. Inside was clean, ti include the restroom but the service and vibe were not welcoming. However, thanks Joe for making it less unwelcoming. 2-star Rating based on the fact of us dining out a lot while on vacation, at least 15 different restaurants while in Myrtle Beach and how this establishment ranked among them over all. read more

I had the mushroom and swiss burger cooked well. (Don't judge.) It was perfect (and I mean perfect). My husband had the bacon burger cooked medium - also perfect. The hamburgers were sizable. I also ordered the onion rings, thick and crispy! Maybe the best I've had. Best of all, the food arrived in a timely manner, was still hot, and tasted like it just came out of the kitchen. The food is phenomenal and fast! Shrimp tacos, bone in and boneless wings are fantastic! Buckets of domestics for cheap!! Lots of other mixed drinks and wines...if that's your thing.
