Intending to do more to support local businesses back in February, I did a Google search for local coffee shops and found Cali Café. Thinking it was probably some hippy Californians, I still decided to give it a shot and drove the short distance from my house. (I love Californians mind you) But no, it is a coffee shop with real Colombians from Cali and real Colombian coffee! The owner Claudia is an amazing non-stop Energizer Bunny, serving, cleaning, and running the business with heart. Her partner/husband Rick "the talker" makes the place feel family-owned and operated as he greets every customer and makes you feel at home. Now, for the coffee. There is no better quality coffee for sure! He orders it straight from Jardin in Colombia. But, it can only be better by rounding out the experience with one, two or three of their amazing FRESH pastries baked on site daily. I won't tell anyone if you go overboard. Their pastry chef has 50-years experience in the kitchen baking all of their creations. Although they have English-speaking employees on every shift and Rick is fluent, brush up on your Spanish if you want to make it a total Colombian immersion experience! I now stop in several times per week for coffee and sweets as well as the conversation. They also have the best Cuban sandwich in Tampa Bay according to many. I think it is amazing due to the pork being slow cooked for 11-hours on site and the bread being baked on site as well. Give it a shot! read more

This almost seems like a mini Moreno's except they do both their sweet and savory well. The muffins are really yummy cake bites, so good and moist it doesn't need any over sweet frosting! Pandebono is a delicious mystery of how they get the cheese inside and goes well with their hot chocolate which is actually melted chocolate in hot milk. Their guava and cheese triangles are huge and rich but I prefer their huge guava bear claws, so good! In the savory goodness category other than the pandebono they have the Cuban just I would get at lunch time if it's a busier day and the potato balls with the spicy sauce and with those you need nothing else in my opinion! read more

Took the family to Cali Cafe for dinner tonight. By far the best cuban I've ever had. The pastries were amazing, we tried 4 different pastries, chicken empanadas, and cheese arepas. By far the best food I've had in a long time and I've had a lot. They also advertise having the best coffee....will be going back this weekend to put it to the test. This place is amazing! I am now meeting a friend for an iced latte and a breakfast treat each week - one of the best places for coffee I have found in Tampa Bay. The service and welcoming atmosphere is outstanding. Couldn't meet nicer people - I am thrilled to support this local business. All of the food is made on the premise and you can see the baking area, so you know they are proud of the way the food is prepared for you. Choices range from sweet to savory, to outstanding breads. This little café behind the carwash and Hungry Howie's on 301 is a hidden gem. Best coffee I have ever had, the pastries, have tried a selection and it was all great. They have a pastry (I didn't get the name) but packed with juicy peaches and flaked almonds on top, it was amazing. Rick & Claudia are lovely hosts & make you feel so welcome. The prices are very low. A coffee, 3 pastries for $10? Can't beat it. Highly recommend this family business. read more

No cookie cutter service here, it's a hidden gem that must be experienced! The owner Rick and his wife (lovely lady who's name escapes me, sorry) are so very inviting. They walked us through the entire menu and with so many great choices...well you'll see when you go there. I got one of the best espresso's in my life here (and I'm very well-traveled throughout the world) and paired that with a "chorizo in a blanket." WHAT...I know! My better half ordered the awesome tasting sweet corn arepa and homemade hot chocolate. IMO, this hot chocolate ranks right up there with the hot chocolate we've had in Paris...worth every drop. Furthermore, the conversation with Rick this morning was very informative...he taught us a lot about Columbia culture. My sister and I came to Fl to visit my sister. We were looking for something to take back to San Francisco, Ca that is something we can be proud of to share with our family when we go home. We thought we have to drive all the way to Tampa for a Cuban sandwich, until we found Cali Cafe. A one stop place to get sandwich and pastries that we know are unique to us. A rare find in California. On top of the great selections, the owner was so friendly as well as the cashier. We walked in 5 min before closing but we feel like we were not being rush. We didn't really know what to get and they gave us a good recommendation. The place is clean and excellent customer service. A lot of selections and the Pandebono (cheese bread ball) was so authentiic just like the kind you get in Brazil. Sooooo good. The round cookie dusted with powdered sugar did not make it to the trip, we ate it when we got home. Highly recommended. read more

from the moment we walked in the door the staff was so friendly and welcoming. they were so knowledgeable about the food, the coffee, and the prices were so fair. $14 at starbucks could get you two drinks but here we got 4 pastries and two iced coffees! the food was AMAZING! and the iced coffee was delicious, you can really taste the roasted beans and it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet.
