This company, and Mia especially, appear to be predators. This is based on an experience involving me and my parents. Mia of CaliFirst Remodel texted me, "Hi Alexander, this is Mia from Cali First Remodel and I am with your mom and dad who have a leak in their living room and we are looking at the option of helping them out with a roof repair. I do however need you to be aware that I am here. Can you please give me a call on this number as soon as you get the chance, they explained to me that you are a doctor, so I understand that you might be working now" I call her. She is with my parents. Jumping ahead, I learned that the company's licensing requires them to involve a witness when the client is 64+ years old. My parents called Mia to look at replacing windows. She proceeds to identify areas of leak from the roof that my parents hadn't gotten around to fixing yet, and she told me she went on the roof and took photos and video clips of areas requiring repair. She was trying to convince me to give the OK for my parents to sign a contract and provided me very little detail up-front, which was the first red flag. I asked about cost, and she focused on a $5000 grant that my parents could sign up for within California and stressed the time-limited urgency of the offer. I pressed her further on total price, to which she said about $200/month. Not specifying the total timeframe of this was the next . Eventually, after much more discussion, she eventually told me that the total price would be over $30,000.00, and I did a quick google search which estimates the average year 2023 cost of this to be 8k-20k. I told her based on this discrepancy, I needed more time to be able to do some research to help my parents come to a decision. Her response? "But your parents are fine with it so I don't see what the problem is!" Another . Now fortunately, my parents and I have already had to deal with them getting scammed by others for smaller amounts that they now know to involve me prior to signing on something costly. The next couple of minutes of this phone call consisted of Mia insisting they had the "lowest price" and saying "trust me", but when I said what I believe to be a reasonable "I need to be able to research this more and would like to get a few other estimates for comparison and also ask their roommate who does a lot of handiwork about his impression," she proceeded to try to discredit the value of their roommate weighing in, insisted they had the best price, and emphasized the time-sensitive nature of being able to apply for a grant that we could not take the time to do our research. Huge red flags off this one. I told her that we did not want to work with her at this time, and I advised my parents who were on speakerphone to not sign a contact until I could do my research. She became very defensive, saying things like, "this is a family company!" And "I have parents too!" And "I am licensed - do you not trust the group that licenses me?!" I discussed this interaction with other staffmembers at CaliFirst Remodel who confirmed to me repeatedly that there is no specific licensure that she holds as an individual to do the work she does, and rather, the licensing pertains to the company as a whole, so she was making up lies to try to persuade me. Now, the worst part is how she responds to me asking her to let me talk to my parents without interruption. I think it a simple request, but after MULTIPLE times of repeating it to her, she did not seem to want to comply with this request. This culminated in me becoming more upset with her and telling her to leave my parents alone. She then proceeds to say that she apologizes for me and my behavior, and that she feels sorry for my patients as a doctor and for my parents and called me terrible. My dad said that her saying this made my mom cry. I tried to bring this up with the company, they refuse to provide me Mia's last name to lodge a formal complaint. They claimed they would launch an internal investigation but have not yet followed through. 3/4/25 Edit: After making this post two days ago, Mia called me from a private number multiple times on my cell phone, stated she had my hospital work address, and was going to reach out to them and tell them that I committed sexual abuse if I did not remove this post within three hours. We received a few calls from different companies, but this one is racist. The girl that called realized thatparents were Indian immigrants. She refused service.
