Sam never disappoints. This is my 2nd roof replacement and a bit more involved with fascia and gutter replacement. Like the first roof replacement, everything was seemless, on time, efficient and the guys are just great. Started Tuesday at 7am and done Thursday at 12pm (with final inspection passed) with full fascia and gutter replacement. For the fascia replacement, this also included painting the fascia with the color that we chose. Price is reasonable, fair but the customer experience and finished work product is just awesome. I was not onsite, but I didn't need to be as Sam texted the work progress a few times a day. it's just nice to know that with a value investment like a roof replacement, I can always count on Sam. read more

I met with a total of nine reputable roofers, all with C-39 license and the highest ratings on Yelp (fourteen roofers, if I count the ones that never followed up after the initial inquiry or sent an estimate site unseen). I almost signed a contract with roofer #7, but I am so glad that I kept the appointment with Samuel, the owner at The Best West Roofing, the eighth roofer I met.  While speaking to Samuel, I felt that he was the most conscientious, honest, patient, detail-oriented and had a great demeanor. He never tried to make his company seem bigger than it was or tried to sound smarter with engineering jargon that I couldn't understand. I never felt like I was getting a shiny sales pitch, unlike some of the other companies' trained salespeople or "managers" who I knew I would never see again. Other roofers bragged about 20-30 unit APT roofs that they recently completed or that they have 30+ crew working all over SoCal. That's great for their business, but I couldn't understand how spreading themselves all over the region could help with our project. There was one roofer who included a $1500 "yearly maintenance service" option in their bid, which seemed very strange to me. If a roof is installed correctly, I shouldn't have to see you again for many many years.  Small details that Samuel covered made him stand out. One example is that our roof's edge hangs over very close to the neighboring property line, and Samuel was the only roofer who proactively offered to clean up the debris that will land on our neighbor's yard if we could let the neighbors know and get their permission to enter their premises.  From beginning to end, Samuel preemptively covered every detail, stayed in touch and clearly communicated the process. He completely earned my trust. His sunny disposition, sincere demeanor and attention to detail remained the same. He was extremely organized and efficient. I've been managing properties for over 20 years and have gone through many contractors, and Samuel is the kind of contractor that you want to hang onto for life. I wish I could hire him for every job.  On the day of the demolition, Samuel was on-site the entire day overseeing everything. I met the entire team, and they were also pleasant, happy, efficient, and highly competent. I could tell they had a great rapport with Samuel. This was another great sign that the workers are happy and taken care of. Samuel showed me photos of the underlayment and had his crew bring down some rotted pieces so I could see them. There's a flat roof over our patio where water had collected and seeped through over time, and the wood underneath had rotted all the way through the rafters. I told Samuel I wanted to replace all the damaged wood. He promptly went to purchase the wood and only charged a minimal amount for the cost of the wood and priming. The other roofers charge exponentially more for any wood replacement.  Our new roof looks amazing. I am so happy with it, and the whole process went so smoothly. I hired Best West Roofing in August 2021 to replace the roof and install new gutters on the original structure of our house. I had gotten a bid from another company whose representative used more aggressive sales tactics; I was about to hire them before Sam came out. I just had a feeling that Sam was more honest, and appreciated his straightforward and comprehensive explanations which were not shrouded in sales talk. I decided to hire Best West instead. They did a great job on our roof; all of the leaks in that part of the house stopped. During that work, an old, disconnected pipe fell through the crawl space and into our shower, creating a large hole in the ceiling. The pipe was obviously old and had been there a long time, probably left there by another contractor. Sam didn't argue the point and promptly had someone come and fix the shower ceiling. As an already stressed out homeowner I really, really appreciated this and always remembered it. In 2023 we had the horrible series of winter storms that really thrashed this old house. Everywhere Sam and his crew had worked in 2021 stayed dry, but we have a house extension that they had not worked on that began to have serious problems, as well as a leaking chimney. Sam was able to come out and fix the stucco on our chimney, assess the issues during a time frame when I'm sure everyone in LA needed roof work, and eventually replace the roof on the house extension in time for he latest storm. He was, as always, reasonable, professional, very clear. There are a lot of contractors out there with varying degrees of skill, competence, professionalism and integrity. The last thing you need when doing a big job on your house is someone who is difficult to work with. Sam has it all-- he is easy to communicate with, does great work, has strong management skills and best of all is just a nice, fair and honest person.
