I've shopped Cali Kid Corals twice this summer through their online auctions, and I have been so pleased with absolutely everything I've received. My first order (mid-July) had a nice mix -- grafted green spot Acan, hologram hammer, aquacultured purple/green branching hammer, mystery Zoa, Ultra Slice Bower, Space Invader Pectinia, Salted Agave Zoa, Eyelash Duncan, and the Flamethrower Blasto double. That Blasto really stood out for me. It was everything I hoped for, and I was happy with all of them. Actually, everything stood out! My most recent order (late August) included a Haterade Zoa mini colony, a Flamin' Rainbow Ring Lobo, and another high-end Zoa mini colony. The Haterade Zoas are so bright, and every polyp is open so beautifully. The Flamin' Rainbow Ring Lobo is incredible--the colors and coloration are fabulous. They ship with ice packs (even when it was in the 100s), and the animals arrived looking healthy. I'll keep watching their auctions. Great experience from start to finish. read more

Just left Cali Kids (Ben) and what an experience. Although I have been there before and I have purchased from them at Reef-a-palooza, this is my first time buying something at the store! I went in specifically for a big piece of a Rainbow Coral and I was expecting to drop a lot of money. I found a 5 mouth colony of their Deadhead Rainbow for a fraction of what I was expecting to pay! Uber excited for this piece to grow out and the customer service was top-notch! From the moment my daughter and I walked in to the moment we left, we were made to feel like family! Lastly, I was caught off guard when I was offered a freebie. I feel bad when I don't pay for something, but Ben insisted and for that I am very very grateful! One month after purchasing these corals: Chameleon Glitter Bomb Amazeballs Spumoni Ultra Rainbow The Spumoni and ultra rainbow since then reversed and died and never opened up. They then proceeded to offer to replace my corals but with less valued corals which ultimately also ended up dying. 4/7 Goniopora died within 2-3 days of purchase. Beyond the u death of the replacement corals, it was more disappointing that they were replaced with cheaper ones. Also, customer service looked like it dropped off after the fact they knew I was there to only get a replacement versus spending $$$. Initially spent $1300 and customer service was A1 but when I came to pick up the replacements customer service was also non-existent. Tough to trust now, but hey selection is great just make sure you know what you're looking for when buying. read more

Let's just start by saying everything at this store is OVERPRICED!! My experience at the store was great! The employee's whom my wife and i encountered were super nice and attentive (ben was not at the store). I can't say the same for the owner Ben! He is extremely rude and is a jerk! Like i mentioned above i was in the store and saw a rainbow acan that i liked and i was quoted a price. When i got home, i went on their website and noticed the same acan i asked about was cheaper online. So i called the store to double check. One of the employees asked Ben about the acan and he got upset in the background and got all defensive Talking about its a different piece and the one here has x amount of heads blah blah blah! ROFLMFAO. This was an incredibly interesting visit. I read all the reviews before heading out 20 miles away from DTLA via god forsaken 5 Freeway. So many reviews said they got there during normal business hours and the place was closed. All reviews had very nice replies from the business owner, so i trusted that the issue was resolved and headed out in the nightmare of LA Traffic. Got parking right in front of the store. Looked at the front door and busted out laughing out loud. THE STORE WAS CLOSED DURING REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS. But there was a phone number on a sticky. I called and spoke to Ben who was at the LAX picking up shipment (as mentioned in his replies to other reviews). Apparently 1 employee Sabrina was out to lunch and another would be back in an hour. Just then an employee came up. He didnt know how to get in so he too called Ben and received his instructions. Ben then called me back and informed me of what is happening. I call this excellent customer service and greatly appreciate it. After I was let in and asked questions regarding the names or the prices of Corals the employee had to call Ben to get the info and then proceeded to look at the website for the info. Not very confidence inspiring. The prices were extremely high albeit the variety was there for sure. The store is extremely clean as were the tanks. Ben's customer service on the phone was quite nice. BUT obviously Ben there is definitely an issue here if so many of is are saying the place was closed during regular business hours. Definitely high time that a resolution be found. I do recommend this place due to the variety and how clean the place and the tanks are but suggest that you call set up an appointment then go. I informed the Calikid team, and they responded immediately. When the package arrived, the corals where packaged securely and with all the coral intact, happy and bright as I wanted them. At first I was confused how to actually get in the store, so I was about to leave because I thought they were closed, but then I noticed other people were able to get in by ringing the doorbell. I did so and I didn't regret it. The store is very simple and clean. The displays are pretty immaculate too! Every piece of coral they had was amazing! I met the owner Ben, and he's a super cool dude. His service was amazing, I didn't feel pressured to buy anything nor did it seem like he was trying to sell me anything. He talked about the coral like it was his hobby too, not just his business. I realized that this place was a higher end coral store and everything was above my price range. However In the end, I told him straight up that I wasn't looking to spend too much, and he hooked me up and cut me a piece that was super colorful and bright. I thought that was really cool of him. This place is the Ferrari of corals dealers. Lots of rare corals that are not seen at your local fish stores. Its a bit pricey but the owners work out deals for corals you buy.
