    Steak burrito
    Natalie C.

Great place if you want a quick bite and don't want to line up with the crowd in Yorkdale Mall. Their menu is quite simple, choose you protein and whether you want a burrito, bowl, tacos or quesadillas. Price ranges from $10-$12 pre-tax. An extra 50¢, if you want guacamole, which I find the price extremely reasonable. I got the steak burrito with whole wheat tortilla, refried beans, corn, lettuce, coleslaw, cheese, salsa, guac, sour cream and cali sauce. I would say flavour-wise the burrito was average, but it was definitely hefty! It looks like they jam pack their burrito bowls too! Kudos to their food and hygiene protocols, everyone who prepared the food wore gloves. They had a very steady stream of customers on a Saturday at around 1pm. Lots of food delivery app orders too.

I was super excited to discover another quick and tasty lunch spot close to my office. It's in a bit of a weird spot; I only just realized it was tucked in off of Dufferin just south of Orfus Road. I've been a few times now and I usually get the bowl option, which is basically a burrito without the tortilla. It's a lot like Chipotle's, where you choose your fillings and select your choice of chicken, beef, pork, fish, shrimp, tofu or just veggies. It's nice that they have so many choices. Everything tastes really fresh and they aren't super stingy with the ingredients - although I did have to say "extra" cilantro a few times to get enough.

It's similar to the other burrito bowl places except you can choose what style you get your protein cooked in. We got the buffalo sauce chicken and veggies nachos. They have about five different varieties/sauces in which the meat is marinated and cooked. The buffalo chicken was delicious, spicy and added The flavor. We got the guac and sour cream as well. Highly recommended. It was about $26 for a chicken bowl and veggie nachos. Absolutely worth the money.

I came across this place as I was looking for a decent Mexican resto near Yorkdale. First time I tried the burrito bowl with steak which turned out like "pulled beef" texture and was not a fan. I came back and gave it another try but with shrimp this time and I was not disappointed. The shrimp was pan fried so nothing was burnt and tasted amazing with a drizzle of hot sauce. However, the food preparation rather took long only because the staff was focusing on prepping food for online orders which is why I decided to remove a star. Other than that, this will be added my favourite list!!

Best Burrito! Better than the competition!

Awesome food. Very underrated. Fresh ingredients. Clean facilities. Highly recommend the burrito and quesadilla. Angel who works at this location is an angel!

If taco/burrito was a family business- Cali Mexican Grill would be the younger cooler version of chipotle. I say that because they follow almost the exact same formula- even the seating and layout. The menu is eerily similar as well. However what impressed me was the toppings that they had that was different from chipotle. Like the pineapple and cilantro. Also the option to put "crunchie" which is basically toritlla chips crumbled onto your burrito. The place was shiny and shimmery and sooo soo clean. I am a fan.

I absolutely love Cali. Food is amazing for a late night quick snack or meal. In love with the quesadillas and poutine. Burritos are also great but would choose quesadillas over the burrito. Staff is always nice and crack jokes.

The place is a bit small so it can be a bit tight so I would highly recommend having reservations if you have a large group. Tacos: The soft and the crispy tacos were both delicious. The tinga chicken and the beef barbacoa were juicy and full of flavour. The portions was fair, the quality was a standout and tasted quite authentic. Overall, I really had a great experience at Playa Cabana, totally would come here again to try out their other dishes.

When I went to the basement washroom, I swear I saw what looked like the end of a mouse's tail sticking out from under the door. Needless to say, I completely lost my appetite. When the waiter asked how everything was, I told him honestly that it was terrible. I had only taken two bites, and there was really no response. I wouldn't have wanted a replacement anyway after that experience. I also had some fruit bites, and about 10 minutes later my stomach started gurgling. By the time I got home, I felt awful. I was shivering, felt like I was going to throw up, and had to rush to the bathroom. It honestly felt like food poisoning. And I still paid for my meal Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place.

Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Cost to worth it rating: 4 ($US 150 for a good amount of food and drinks at this caliber is a steal) Opentableable: yes but not later Return worthiness: yes Eve award: best fine dining Mexican pizza, best service I've had ever, best trio of meats I've had Highlights: - Mexican pizza (aka tlayuda toloqueña): phenomenal invention and best thing I ate the whole trip. Fresh crispy tortillas combination of so many ingredients and melded well together from green chorizo to dollops of white bean to slices of carrot. 5 stars - Pork (pork secreto al pastor): most tender pork ever! Brined then sous vide and finished grilled. Surprise onion compote was wonderful plus slices of grilled pineapple. 5 stars - Duck (dry aged Hudson Valley duck breast) : I've had HV duck many times before but this is one of the most standout duck breast I have had. Tender not gamey at all and in a lovely sauce. I love duck and cannot comprehend why this blew y mind, but I'm happy it did. 5 stars - Hanger steak (prime hanger): cooked perfectly medium rare with a creamy au poivre like sauce on top. My friend would have preferred to be asked how it was cooked and she had to stick to the end pieces to be less pink--but I loved it the way it was. 4.75 stars (wonderful but I had to separate it from the others) - Chocolate mousse (spiced Mexican Hot Chocolate): light and airy but deep in chocolate flavor with a sponge cake made with honey that mimicked honeycombs. Another surprise hit. 5 stars - Scallop ceviche (Hokkaido scallop ceviche in a leche negra sauce): tender bits of scallops with avocado in what I equate to a black taco seasoned sauce made with ground up ingredients. 4.25 stars - Sweet potato (coal roasted sweet potato): large tender pieces with char and greens around. 3.5 stars - Atmosphere: open fire everywhere with the kitchen right out there, high energy in the low almost cave - like white stone dining room which was very unique - Wine: great - Abraham: delightful, fun, and well educated waiter who answered my dorky questions about the food - Utensils for each course: loved it so there was no mystery of what you were supposed to use to keep you out of any Pretty Woman situation - Service overall: outside of the waiter, every single person was amazing. From the people presenting our dishes, to the ones constantly wiping our tables, to the individual who chatted with us as we were waiting for our friends before we left. I dine out a lot and this was top notch impeccable some of the best service I have ever had at any restaurant anywhere. I can only think of Alinea that could top it. Midlights: - Cocktails: majority are mezcal which is understandable with the cuisine and smokey theme, but I'm not a mezcal person so options were minimal Lowlights: - Creepy dark basement bathroom

We weren't able to get reservations online but read on their website that they had daily walk-ins…read moreso we lined up early before they opened. It seems their walk-in availability is limited to one table. We gave them our number and went to get a drink somewhere else. I got the call that a party of three had canceled so we hurried back from a bar around the corner. They stuck the four of us in the far back corner at a table meant for three very close to the very hot oven. We did not realize and it was not made clear to use that everything on the menu was meant to be family styled. We ordered drinks and they took a really long time so they gave us each a glass of complimentary champagne which was nice. The food itself was delicious and we enjoyed everything. I would just note that this is a place meant to be family styled and make reservations beforehand or show up an hour early if you want a guaranteed walk in spot.

The inside was nice, it was dark with ambient lighting and decorated with a modern and Mexican theme. The waitress was super nice, and the staff were fairly attentive. We got the chips and guac to start. I do wish they gave a little bit more walk because it came in this really small cup so we had to go light on the guac to chip ratio. But overall the guac was yummy and the chips were very crunchy with a nice seasoning. They have a special every day of the week and Thursdays are there crunch tacos, which are hard shell tacos, wrapped in a soft shell taco with some sauce in between, and you can choose between their chorizo or chicken. We got one of each. I liked the chicken more but my partner liked the Chorizo. And all the toppings the perfect Fixin's. They only had three washroom stalls, which were gender neutral, and I thought they were relatively clean.
