I'm not sure what's going on with this place but the quality really seems to have gone downhill recently. The milk doesn't stay fresh nearly as long as the raw milk I get from other places in the area and the eggs are comparable to the cheapest eggs at the grocery store, nowhere near the quality you would expect from a farm. They do have the cheapest prices in town but you seem to get what you pay for. read more

Staple for the family! If you've yet to try raw milk, this is your sign to do so! This is a quaint and fairly priced farm that offers everything from honey, milk, cheese, beef, eggs and so on. The owners have always been sweet and accommodating, The bacon cheddar cheese is a must try! Their pepper Jack cheese is delightful! And the kids BEG for their milk and cheer when we get more. I like to sip on the heavy cream (it tastes like ice cream!) and I use it in so much. I haven't tried the fudgie only because I know I'll become the #1 fan and won't be able to live without it. Being that we just moved into the area, we kept passing sign that advertised fresh eggs and milk outside this little farm on League Line. We stopped in one day to check it our and were really impressed with the selection. A lovely young lady named Margie was quick to help us out and answer any questions we had. Being from outside of Texas, the concept of milk fresh from a cow, eggs right from the chicken was a concept we lost back in the 60's and 70's. You can really tell the difference between farm fresh and store bought. We also tried out their goats milk, keifer, and selection of sausages (Buffalo, Jalapeno/cheddar and German style) that came straight from the farm. All were delicious and again you can tell the difference between the store bought and farm raised. They have other cuts of meat that we have not tried yet but will soon. Margie is also one the biggest reasons we go here. She is friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable about the products. She makes it fun to shop here. I highly recommend stopping in to Calico Farms and trying out some farm fresh food, especially if you are from out of state and from the West Coast! read more

I really wanted to love this place and I was very excited to try their raw milk after recently moving into this area. I have been drinking raw milk for a long time, and spent $70 on various produce here. I was incredibly disappointed that only 1 day (!!) after purchase, one of my milk half gallons tasted sour and smelled off. About 2-3 days later, the other half gallon also turned bad and I was fearful to drink it because I was sure it was spoiled and I would get sick if I did. I called them, and the person who answered insisted that "no one has ever gotten sick from our product" and that "we sold 50 gallons that day and no one else complained." The man on the phone promised me to refund me for my raw milk purchase, but they lied and I never got the refund. I was surprised by the response and poor customer service after buying a bad product. As I start a journey down a more healthy path, I was searching for more natural products for my diet. After past experiences with farm fresh eggs, and researching YouTube for benefits of raw milk, I though it was time to try it. I came here to purchase eggs and milk to check it out. You can get a rack of eggs 2.5 dozen for $14 and a 1/2 gallon or whole gallon of milk. I actually bought two racks of eggs, a bottle of their chocolate milk concentrate and a 1/2 gallon of milk. Understand that this review is of my experience, my eyes and my opinion. There are opinions of many, but this one is mine. I am not a medical professional, or a nutritionist or an animal whisperer and we all know that what is on the internet needs to taken with a grain of salt and verified. One thing you should know. If this is the 1st time trying raw milk, proceed slowly and do research. If you dive in too deep too quick, you may cause intestinal distress. Start slowly, only 1/4- 1/2 cup a day. Since the raw milk has a plethora of (good) bacteria in it that is normally eliminated with pasteurization your body will be introduced to new microbes. Same thing if you are weaning yourself off of it. Go slow. Anyway, I was excited to try the new items. I started with the eggs. I used to get fresh eggs in the past when I lived up north. The yellows should be bright and vibrant and the whites should hold a nice oval shape without spreading when cracked open. These eggs did not have a bright yellow and the whites spread without shape. I did not do a water test on them, but should have as these did not crack as they should have. If you are not familiar with that process, YouTube it. Understand what your care of fresh eggs should be and why it is done the way it is. Out of the two racks, none of the eggs held their shape or color as "fresh" eggs should. My store bought eggs hold shape better. Additionally, the eggs were covered in chicken poop. Although there is a natural occurrence of some poop, almost every egg was covered. Overall that tells me maybe the bedding practice may need a review in the hen house. The lack of color in the yolk and lack of shape holding of the white can indicate many things, from health of chickens, feed issues or freshness. The water test helps with the latter, but be prepared for the additional care that may be needed to keep your eggs fresh after. Do your research, learn what you are getting into and use google as public records are just that. Upon closer look at the milk, the lid was not on securely. So I questioned that too, but it did not smell or taste bad. The chocolate milk was actually good. The woman that we purchased the items from is nice and provide information about the products. Knowledge is power and know before you go. In general there is a benefit of these products in general in my opinion. There is also a free market where similar products can be obtained of lesser and greater quality. You have to decide and do research. I will keep searching for those options as this one is not for me. read more

Calico Farms in Conroe is not farm from my home so we decided to give them a try. I bought a gallon of fresh milk, a pint of heavy cream, 2 pounds of butter, and a package of liver. Everything was $10 each or per pound. I must say I was disappointed at the cost of the butter, milk, cream, and liver. Liver never costs that much at a store. The milk was o.k., but the heavy cream was only good for 2 days before it went sour. I bought on Wednesday and by Friday, it was sour and had to be poured out. Their prices are high (comparable for other farms I have seen), but nothing was dated. You have no ability to see when the milk or cream was packaged. You have no idea how old the product is you are purchasing. read more

Went here to buy raw milk. When we pulled in we noticed that their market had been burned down within the past year. It looks like a horrible tragedy. But otherwise, we got there and they still had a table and portable frig to hold all the diary. We got raw milk, raw butter as well as creme. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! The raw milk is so fresh and creamy we can drink it with everything! Also our main goal was to make kefir and with this raw milk it created a better taste in our kefir that store bought milk can't maintain. And their fresh eggs!!! So cheap! Sooo good! I love ALL the food I buy here and it is so FRESH and super healthy! There's a 2 gallon limit on the milk probably because everyone would buy it all if they could. It's only 10 bucks for a gallon of fresh, delicious HEALTHY raw milk. It's that much for the organic stuff at the grocery store so the only difference is making the trip. They have adorable little goats and a really nice atmosphere. Oh and the cheese. WHAT? best cheese ever. I can't go back to grocery store cheese. I melted some white cheddar on some tortilla chips and it was divine. The butter is scrumptious. The honey is so fresh and I'm using it to make my raw milk and cream ice cream. The eggs look the same as the cage free you get at the store but the taste is way better. You don't store the eggs in the fridge because the chickens leave a protective coating on the outside. Also, the owner told me that if I come with kiddos around closing time they might get a chance to bottle feed the goats! I'm hoping we can do that next time. I read the review about the woman that hurt herself on the farm and expected a teen helper to assist her with first aid. While I understand that she was having a very rough day, my husband is a safety expert and said that when a person is bleeding you shouldn't get in harms way without protective gear because of blood borne pathogens. Also, she was a teen - its very hard to expect that kind of service from a young girl. Also, to the woman that took her twins on a trip to the dairy farm and the teacher didn't know that there is a specific time you MUST milk cows - I have a feeling the teacher was crying because she realized that she didn't plan her trip accordingly and was reacting to her own poor planning. I could be wrong but the reviewer didn't see it for herself. The people that run this farm are able to provide a service to us that I truly appreciate and at an amazingly fair price. I hope and pray that they are able to stay open. I will continue to drive and purchase from this family farm because I like to support my neighbors small businesses and it is SO much healthier for you to eat this kind of food. I called before I arrived and the man on the phone was so kind. Remember that it is not open on Mondays and is only open from 2pm to 6pm. I'm sure they have plenty more work to do on the farm before then! Also, the road is kind of bumpy to get there so if you have a small car you'll have to drive very carefully. We had high hopes for this place since we are moving nearby. However, I cannot in good conscience purchase from here in full knowing of how bad the fly infestation is... I have never in my life seen so many flies. (I know farms have flies, that is no secret, but this was out of CONTROL!) The well-being of the animals cannot be great. The store is nice and pretty and clean, but the cattle are covered in flies. My heart dropped when I saw the baby cows covered in them. Are they working on the infestation? I have no clue.. I truly hope they are because outside of the flies, the farm shows true charm. Well-being is vital for animals, their hormones and emotions go into the products and if they are not truly happy then my family would not be receiving a high quality product...Again, I really wanted to like this place as we walked through with our children, but no.. just no. I know that all organic is important(as it very well should be) but a really big handful of fly traps would make the cows happier and the product more amazing than I am sure it already is. When we got back to our car there was (and I am NOT over-exaggerating) about 100 flies on our car. Every step we took through the farm was a big cloud of flies. I have been researching nutrient dense food for growing strong bones and teeth, and raw milk consistently comes up as providing the most bioavailable calcium with the vitamins and digestive enzymes to go with! I also love the beef liver and bones they keep stocked in the fridge, all at prices that are very competitive for grass fed cows. Especially on the sale days, stocking up is a no brainer! I usualy purchase 2-3 gallons for my father, however the "setting" and "cash transactions only" left me thinking, espectially as this was my first time. Don't listen to the (few and far between) negative reviews on here, they must be from very confused, salty people! I have been a consumer of raw dairy and grass fed animal products for years, in multiple states including Oregon and California which are known for these things; and the products at Calico are some of the best quality raw milk, cheese, eggs and meat we've ever had! And so reasonably priced!! Also it's a great place to visit with family as well, you can pet the cows and the goats and everyone here is very kind. I'm not really into the whole organic, locavore, gluten-free thing. But this is super close to home for me and thought I'd check it out. Located on League Line off 45, it's a spacious farm sandwiched between the subdivisions of Teaswood and Panorama Village. At the end of the dirt road is a tiny red barn where you can buy raw unpasteurized milk (goat and cow). A lot more expensive than your pasteurized milk at HEB. While there's a risk of catching brucellosis (Maltese fever) drinking this, after eating brain taco, raw milk zoonosis is the least of my concern. The folks working there are very helpful. There were some customers who drove as far away as Beaumont to get the raw goods. I was here on a mission for butter. Also saw kefir and decided to give it a try. Wasn't a fan of it. Loaded with probiotics, this yogurt was too tart and sour for my tastes. Daughter said it tasted like spoiled milk lol. The unsalted butter was absolute gold! Has a rich creamy taste! Move over Land O'Lakes! Calico is taking over my fridge. And boy has it taken it over literally! Each block is the size of a brick! There are some other items for sale there as well from gouda, cacciotta cheese, and their $9/gal raw milk. I'm content with the yummy butter for now. read more

The Holfmans are awesome people. We drove the hour up to his place. We arrived and picked up a slate of eggs, 2 gallons of raw cows milk. 1/2 gallon of goats milk. The strawberry milk is awesome and the fudge milk is incredible but you have to dilute it for my taste. We picked up steaks and roasts. Ended up spending a $165 bucks before we were out of there. So this was my first and last trip to this place... I arrive with my toddler who is 2 1/2...I walk in and ask a few questions about feeding the animals and the girl says "just use the hay beside the corrals" so I said ok and we would be back... Im walking again with a toddler who walk up to the cows there a large pile of hay...under the hay is huge hole that is covered, I fall into the hole and my arm and face fall against the fence slicing about a 7 inch cut into my arm... it starts bleeding everywhere I take my toddler walk inside calmly so she doesnt freak out and clearly blood is pouring from my arm... I asked the girl "do you have a first aid kit or can you help me" she looks up from her phone and says "the bathrooms back to the right"... I could not believe she did not offer to help or guide me in anyway... I walk in the bathroom never did she offer to help me, I come out of the bathroom my arm is still bleeding I was using toilet paper and asked for some antiseptic or something she hands me some vanilla scented anti bacterial stuff... still did not offer to help me with my arm or my toddler. I grabbed my eggs and walked out blood still gushing from my arm trying to put the baby in the car seat and carry eggs...needless to say I ended up in the ER getting a tetanus shot and they could have cared less... horrible customer service and it sucks because I love the animals and my roommate gets milk and eggs from there but that incident alone I will never go back... THAT IS A LIABILITY ISSUE HAVING A HOLE THAT YOU CANT SEE MY TODDLER COULD'VE FALLEN IN THAT HOLE IT WAS AT LEAST A FOOT DEEP! I COULD'VE BROKEN MY LEGI HAVE A HUGE BRUISE FROM THAT HOLE! read more

I've been buying lots of milk from Calico Dairy for almost 2.5 years. We buy about 8 gallons about every 10 days! We make lots of kefir, baby formula and treats in a blender with frozen fruit. They are a licensed raw dairy, which means it is tested and inspected for quality. Raw milk is completely safe to drink from clean, healthy, pastured animals. We found this dairy several years ago when we first moved to the Woodlands. I was craving milk one day and since I don't do well with anything but raw dairy products, I started searching. I found Calico and we fell in love with the place on our first visit. My wife and girls loved the animals, especially the goats. One time we took a tour of their facilities while a cow was being milked. Everything was clean and spotless. The milk flowed from the cow, into a cooling machine and straight into the bottle ready for consumption. Simple and unprocessed. Yesterday we visited and bought Fudgie Milk, cream and yogurt. I'm not a yogurt guy but I really enjoy their yogurt. The texture is creamy and the flavor is delicious. My daughters couldn't wait to taste the Fudgie Milk so they opened up the bottle and drank it at the dairy.
