It was a literal shack with no seating but it had some interesting drink choices. I don't drink coffee so I'm glad there were other choices as well as some breakfast pastries. The lady was friendly and explained the menu. We got an iced Americano, iced matcha latte, and a green jasmine tea. The matcha had good flavor and the green jasmine tea was very fragrant. This is the only place I know of it San Diego that has white coffee/espresso! White espresso is made from beans with minimal roast and has a unique nutty slightly sweet flavor that is distctly different from regular roasted coffee. It's pretty uncommon to find around here. This little coffee stand was quick reasonably priced and the barista was friendly. Definitely go check it out! read more

My drink from this shop was amazing!! It was on their seasonal menu (banana latte with almond milk). I got it 50% sweet and hot, and I wasn't sure if warm banana latte wouldn't work, but the employee told me it would be good and it was! The weather was a bit chilly so I'm glad she convinced me. I'm happy I chose to go half on the sweetness because it was already fairly sweet the way I got it (but I still enjoyed it and it felt indulgent like a dessert). They were very helpful and answered all my questions! My husband also enjoyed his iced tea from here. I really appreciated that they don't overdo it on the ice for their iced drinks. Such a cute coffee truck/stand! Came here on our way to Old Town one day after looking up nearby coffee options on Yelp. Honestly the coffee itself was fantastic but I really loved their variety of options and their creativity for different featured drinks each month and week. I really enjoyed their artwork/branding as well, just felt like home for San Diego. We were able to order quickly and only had to wait a few minutes for our drinks. The cashier/barista was really friendly and helped us decide on our drinks. Although this location was busy with a steady flow, our drinks really did not take that long. Fantastic service overall! I had one of their drinks of the month, the pistachio rose iced latte, and my husband had their drink of the week which was the blackberry mocha (iced). His drink choice was best overall as the sweetness of the blackberry complemented the mocha base perfectly. Not overly sweet, but just a nice flavor in addition to coffee. I enjoyed my pistachio rose latte, but it was very heavy on the rose and very light on the pistachio. Unfortunately couldn't taste pistachio at all, but the coffee itself was fantastic. We aren't in the area very often, but when we are, we do like to stop at this place. It's a little shack in a parking lot outside of a sports bar, but they do have really good coffee. The attendant is always nice and helpful, and they have a punch card, so you get a free one every now and then. A few of my friends recommended this spot and of course I had to try their white coffee. I've only had it once in Colorado so I didn't have high expectations. I ended up getting the white coffee with pistachio oat milk! It was very yummy, strong nutty flavor. A bit on the expensive side ($8) but this is supposedly the only place in California that sells white coffee and I got a milk alternative. The barista is so friendly she answered all my questions and gave me many recommendations on what to order. The ladies in this cute coffee shack that work here make my mornings. It is conveniently located near my office, and so, it's hard not to go here at least once or twice a week! Their prices are reasonable and it's a nice change from your usual Starbucks. California Bean also shares space with another new spot I just discovered called Home & Away (will be writing a separate review for them!). My morning coffee adventures have led me to trying just a few drinks, which are: 1. White Lightning 2. White Mocha 3. Lotta Horchata 4. Vanilla Latte My favorites thus far are the White Lightning and White Mocha! I 100% recommend stopping by here for your cup o' joe if you're in the area. I'll likely be trying new drinks, especially since they'll have fall season speciality drinks :) At this point, I'll probably need to buy an official California Bean shirt to pledge my allegiance to them, lol. read more

"Great service and Timing" I looked up a coffee spot in the area on Yelp and other than the main brand recommendations, this one arrived on the list and I'm glad I went. The set-up was like a little shack, don't know how to explain it but it's one of the buildings that you can't miss. The server (Krista) was speaking to two other customers before serving me and it was good to see that a conversation was being had around 630am when most folks tend to be grumpy (so I've been told). It was good to see she spoke with me the same way that she did the customers before me, which is always a thumbs-up. I informed her I'm normally a Chai guy and I would like to try their Cinnabon latte. She said good choice but if I haven't had white coffee before and like a bit more flavor try out the toasted turtle. She went into detail about what is in it and how it is made and she had me sold. We had a conversation the whole time while she was making it which I found to be pretty impressive. She wasn't rushing at all and she took her time while she was doing it. Even though I'm not a big fan of the taste of espresso, it didn't bother me when I drank this and that was a game changer for me. I ordered it large, hot, with oat milk and it was very delicious. Not every day someone can say they had white coffee, roasted marshmallow chai and they enjoyed it. I'm glad that Yelp, recommended this place to me because I will be coming back to possibly get the same thing once again.
