I finally stopped by Rose Donuts after driving past it so many times while working in the area. One thing I appreciated right away was that they take credit cards. The specialty donuts are a little on the pricey side, but they have a great selection. I'm always on the hunt for the best apple fritter, and my second favorite donut is a glazed old fashioned, so those were the two I had to try. The apple fritter was okay. It was a little on the dry side, but I did like all the crispy glazed nubbins on the outside. I just wish it had a stronger apple flavor. The maple glazed old fashioned was the winner for me. I had the lemon jelly filled donut, everything bagel with cream cheese, beef and chicken empanadas, jalapeno, ham and cheese croissant. Their donuts are always good. The croissant was just okay but they did pack it with cheese; it was goooey deliciousness. The empanadas were decent. Out of all things; the bagel with cream cheese could be better. Went on a Tuesday evening. Staff were in the back and even after acknowledging me left me standing there for a while. Selection was limited, which I would expect at the end of the day. I got a bacon maple doughnut and a crumb coated doughnut. Donuts were fine. Not oily, not overly sweet. I had a couple of questions about what each donut was. They seemed annoyed that I was asking questions. Two donuts and a chocolate milk came to $12. It was also very hot in the store. We are in the middle of a heat advisory. We saw a line out the door on our way to sea world on Sunday and had to stop on Monday to see what this place was all about. There was only a couple people in line when we got there and we were helped pretty quickly. We ordered 2 country style everything bagel sandwiches, 6 donuts. I enjoyed the bagel sandwich-good crispy bacon, fluffy egg and cheese-but wished I would have asked for some spice! The donuts seemed like donuts to me. Haha. I've driven past this donut shop many times throughout the years, but have never purchased donuts from there or eaten there. Rose Donuts is my daughter and her fiancé's favorite donut shop in all of San Diego. My daughter had brought some donuts home and they were some of the tastiest donuts I've ever grubbed on. Today, my wife and I stopped by for my first time, we ordered sandwiches, drinks, and donuts. The customer service from the young lady, the value for my money and yummy sandwich, the creamy shake, and my maple bacon donut all confirmed why my daughter is a fan and why I am now a fan. Rose Donuts is an institution in the Linda Vista area. According to my kiddo, it's a family owned business and multiple generations have run this Mom and Pop donut shop. For the longest time, they were a cash only business, but finally modernized and now take card, which was a great business move for them and more convenient for loyal customers. Rose Donuts is just down the hill from USD. It can be found in a strip mall called Ford Trolley Plaza. It's next to Matador Mexican Grill and in the shopping center adjacent called The Presidio, you'll find J&T Thai Street Food, Sharetea, and Rip Curl. Across from Rose, another shopping center can be found and you'll find Urbane Cafe, Pho Kitchen, and Pizza Guys. The donut shop is at the corner of Napa Street and Linda Vista Road. There's plenty of parking. Once you enter the shop, you'll notice the display cases of their donuts, pastries/cookies, and ice cream. It's an inviting place with Welcome to Rose Donuts signage, pics of their food, and a large pic of the San Diego skyline. There are approximately 6 tables with overhead fans for our hot days. The customer service provided by the young lady was friendly, attentive, and she was thorough with her assistance. I've passed by Rose Donuts on multiple occasions and besides my family's glowing reviews, I've heard and read positive accolades about this shop. The laudatory reviews were always about their donuts and prior to my first time stepping into Rose Donuts, I was blessed to eat their donuts when my daughter brought some home. I didn't realize they sold other items besides donuts. We decided to order sandwiches for dinner and if you're a fan of value for your money, then I'm confident you will be a fan of their sandwiches. I ordered a Club Sandwich and decided on toasted sourdough for my bread choice. The sandwich was substantial, had plenty of deli meat, they were generous with their bacon, the vegetables were fresh, and it was a filling sandwich. That sandwich was tasty and satisfying. Since I was at a donut shop, of course I had to order one for dessert. I ordered a round maple bacon donut. It was covered with savory bacon, the sweetness of the maple combined perfectly with the bacon, and I know why customers flock to Rose Donuts. The cooked dough is fluffy, fresh, and it was just so comforting in a foodie type way. Lastly, don't sleep on their Thrifty ice cream shakes. I ordered a strawberry cheesecake shake, which was creamy, delicious, and yummy. To experience Rose Donuts for myself, I now understand why my daughter raved about this donut shop. We were in the area and noticed a line of people and of course had to go check it out. Line was long but mover really quickly and to be honest the donuts were well priced and so tasty it would have been worth waiting in line no matter how long or the wait. There is some seating inside and also a nice little patio outside to sit. I got a box of donuts for under $20 (range from about $2-$3.50) a mix chocolate old fashioned were yummy, apple fritters some of the best we had (you can get a full size or mini), crumb exceptional as was everything we got here. This mom and pop shop has the best donuts I've tried in San Diego, with the list including the renowned donut bar. The flavored donuts were so fragrant, especially the flavors of apple in the apple fritter and the blueberry in the blueberry cake donut. Each donut was so soft, fluffy, and moist. I had leftovers from my order which I ate the next day without reheating and the texture was still incredibly similar to the first day. Quality in both taste and texture were still intact. We have lived in the neighborhood for a decade plus. This has always been an awesome spot to have nearby. I came in here at 9:30p on a weekday and asked when they were going to close before ordering. I wanted to be respectful before ordering as I knew it was late for a weekday. The woman behind the counter bluntly said 10 as she darted towards the back room. I asked her if she was Cambodian, because I'm Cambodian and there aren't a ton of Khmer owned businesses in SD - and the people here have always been very nice. She bluntly shut me down as if to shoe me away, it was very strange. I felt like I was impeding. We still bought our cookie but it all felt so bitter. Anyways, I'm not sure if - or what I did wrong, but I also know everyone has off days. I'm very disappointed with the service this time around. Really glad I stopped by Rose Donuts! There was definitely a line when I showed up around 9 AM, but it moved pretty quickly and was totally worth it. The Vietnamese coffee was good--strong and just the right amount of sweet. I loved that they had both small and large sizes for the apple fritter. Our friends invited us to this place and they said it's the best donut shop there is!! So we went after lunch, i ordered half dozen. Blueberry donut. Apple fritters. Chocolate Bavarian Cream. Bavarian Maple Bar. oh my goodness...! They're donuts were so good, so soft and not dense. Moist and not dry. You can also order hit and cold coffee. There were two servers and they both work with precision and everyone is served in a timely manner. There are seats and tables if you prefer staying and just savoring the donuts. Our favorite donut shop in SD. We usually hit up JT Thai in the same plaza then stop by Rose Donuts for dessert. Parking can be a little tight but usually always find a spot. BB's favorite donut is maple bacon and she loves the ones from here. They only make a set amount per day so try to come earlier. I usually always stick to my favorites, the maple bar and glazed buttermilk. Donuts are always fresh and delicious, service is good as well. They also make sandwiches and coffee drinks and such, but we have never tried those. I can see why this place gets the love that it does. This place is disgusting. I really wanted to like it. The lady was really sweet, but I just can't. I didn't even eat any of my food I had to throw it away. I got a bacon egg and cheese croissant. Everything is microwaved the bacon. I don't know if that was a couple day old bacon or what but it was burnt And so gross. The egg is microwaved, and then she took the whole thing, including the croissant and put it back in the microwave nuke it so much. It was so hot. I had to pull all apart to try to even cool it down and the croissant was just a mess a soggy greasy just completely ruined the croissant. I got a just a simple glazed twist doughnut had to be the worst donut I've ever had. It was so soggy from the grease the grease must be months old. They never change it. It was uneditable. Rose donuts is a very popular mom and pop shop with solid donuts but average coffee. There was a great selection (around 9 am on a Monday) of donuts, muffins and croissants. There were also so many regulars. The owner knew everyone's name and said "hi" to practically everyone in line. It was a little pricey, but you can definitely command these higher prices when your products are in such high demand. I got 3 "regular donuts" (glazed, sprinkle cake donut and an old fashioned) and 3 "specialty" donuts (maple bacon, blueberry icing and red velvet), 2 coffees and a milk. We went here after Christmas Day Mass at Immaculata by USD. This is the first time I've been here. Got their croissant with egg, and ham. It was delicious. We got a dozen of assorted donuts.
