We went with…read morefriends their young children had never been on a train before wanted them to experience it. All the adults have been on trains before but it has been many years. I noticed not that many times to choose from going to Davis from Sacramento. We missed the 2 pm. We had to wait almost an hour and half until the next one. We bought our tickets then realized no one told us where we actually get onto the train. Our friend went back in..at the ticket booth the man that helped us was very nice and very helpful. He gave the kids coloring books and pins. Finally on the train it was bumper then I remembered, moved around a lot reminded me being on boat. Can not have bags or luggage out on tables or seats. I think we got called out, but we weren't sure since it was over the load speaker. We had a small bag it had food and snacks in it. We put into the over head. We went to check out the food car. So the kids could feel what it was like to walk from car to car..the food car was mostly over priced snacks. Canned, bottled drinks and packs of chips or nuts. When we arrived in Davis. They said over the loud speaker they do not stop for to long you need to get off so get ready. We couldn't open the over head to get our bag back out. It was stuck. Other passengers helped us open it, they said you really need to pull it hard. Once off the train the Davis train station and building looked so old and run down..so sad looking compared to Sacramento station. We didn't know no one would be there to buy return tickets. But they do offer more times leaving back to Sacramento. We purchased online. We had many people asking if they were in the right place while we were waiting. Davis such a cute town seems like they would clean up the station areas.

I have been here multiple times to pick up and drop off friends or family that have come to visit…read more This station itself is reasonably clean and functional and the historic building gives a nice touch and some character. The biggest downside to this station in my opinion is the parking. The lot is almost always completely full and the last time I was here people were double parked and circling looking for spaces. There is extended parking if you drive all the way to the rear and ultimately I was able to find a spot to park in and wait. However, it's far too clustered and distant from the station to be very usable. I typically recommend taking the train because even though it's an expensive option, you are able to get work done and maybe even relax on the trip. Besides, with gast prices like they are now, the ticket prices don't seem quite so outrageous. Otherwise the station does what it's supposed to do. It's not the worst and definitely not the best but it could be a lot better if they would do something about the parking capacity.

The ramps and doors don't operate correctly not allowing the disabled riders board. They are left standing in the station. He was great with our food, but he either did not listen, or just didn't care, when we asked for straws, and we had to ask 3 times, to no avail before my mother got up to grab a few. He then scolded her, claiming, almost verbatim, that he did not hear us, and we are not supposed to grab stuff from the table, when my mother says she distinctly remembered he said it would be a few minutes, so he clearly did hear us, and likely forgot. On the other hand, the female attendant, Ellie, checked on us multiple times, to make sure we were doing good, while Stuart did not check on us at all, to the best of my knowledge. Ellie checked on us many times, while Stuart, to the best of my knowledge, was ACTIVELY AVOIDING US.

The food was genuinely good--nothing felt bad, and while some meals were better than others, the dining experience stayed consistently satisfying. One standout perk was the free alcohol drink each night, which was a nice touch. The dinner desserts were excellent too; the chocolate cake is extremely rich, but I'd strongly recommend the cheesecake. The dining room is one place to adjust your expectations. It's a fun experience if you don't mind sitting with strangers, but the tables are small, so you end up pretty close to whoever you're sharing the table with. And depending on your comfort level, the space across from you can feel a little too tight--especially if you have any social anxiety or are a germaphobe. I understand the constraints of the train, but the tables really could be a bit bigger. The staff, overall, were great. They could be a little abrasive at times, but they were consistently helpful. Some staff made periodic announcements with information and entertainment, which added to the experience. There was also a recurring message about keeping the bathrooms clean, and sometimes it felt more like a lecture than guidance--at least in tone. Even so, the standout for me was Reggie, and I appreciated the effort the team put into keeping things running smoothly. The views were amazing, and there was almost always room to sit in the observation car. I stayed in a roomette, which is basically a step-up-from-closet size, and it works fine as long as you're not claustrophobic. During the day it had two chairs and a fold-out table, which was great for playing cards while watching the scenery. At night, the bed setup takes up almost the entire roomette. The bed itself could be more comfortable, but it was doable--just not enough to help me sleep much. I didn't get much sleep either night. For sleep, the train moves enough to be a factor. The steady squeaking/clanking and rocking didn't keep me awake, but the sudden jolting when the train bumped side to side woke me up multiple times. If you sleep on your back, you'll probably be fine, but if you're a side sleeper like me, you may struggle. Because the train really does move, simple things like walking down the halls and showering weren't easy--especially for my 80-year-old father. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and definitely felt like a bit of an adventure. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. My father enjoyed the ride too, but said it was a little too much work for his age.
