We made a pit stop here on the way back to the East Bay and I died and went to heaven when I ordered their PB Hang 10 (ice blended mocha). Only for the peanut butter and chocolate anything enthusiasts! They also had Stars cupcakes ( which I have no idea who they were) but I had the double chocolate cupcake! and OMG their icing was the bomb! The baristas were really welcoming and did a great job on suggesting what to get. It seemed like a nice place where the locals like to have their after lunch cuppa joe. Surf City Coffee is awesome! Try their "Iced Caramel Latte" - it's delicious. The people working there are always upbeat and helpful, and there's a beautiful outdoor seating area. By the way, on the first Saturday of each month, a Pet Adoption Day is held just outside the coffeeshop. read more

Been here a few times. Service has been quick and staff very nice. In the past have ordered mochas and found them strong & hot. Today I visited & just ordered some oatmeal to go. Oatmeal was slow cooked steel cut and tasty. Perfect with honey and Cinnamon. I believe you can also have fruit topping with it but I like my oats without fruit. Only problem was parking lot was full. Great place to stop when Hwy 1 is backed up and not moving. Free Wi-Fi. They have indoor and outdoor seating and a small dog park. read more

Surf City is a great location! I enjoy taking the short walk from my office to this location nearly every morning. My classic breakfast tends to be their amazing bacon dawners served on fresh bagels. The baristas hat I have met are all superb. The environment is nice, it has a warm ambiance and would be great to just relax and work at. My only reason I can't give it 5 is that the coffee isn't consistent every time I go; however for the most part it is grand and I will continue having Surf as my usual spot. read more

With all the coffee shops in Santa Cruz county this one rates average, anywhere else it would rate high, but competition is stiff. Staff is always friendly and service is fast. I used to live just up the street from Surf City Coffee and seldom frequented it, mainly from price. Though it was normally not dissatisfying otherwise. I moved from Aptos three years ago and had forgotten why I seldom went there, until last Saturday (1/16/08). I ordered three items totaling $12: A watery, tepid "mocha," a little breakfast burrito (vendor produced) and a cookie (vendor produced). The burrito was just brown mush inside (blah!!). Really, 3.50 for a cookie? I had to ask the cashier "how much?" And she couldn't add a new item to the order, when I added the cookie, before paying (two transactions). In all a very disappointing breakfast. I don't mind paying top dollar for top quality, but Surf City Coffee doesn't deliver it: both the service and products were poor. Nice location, is all. In sum not all bad all the time, but consistently--infrequent visits over about 8 years--far overpriced for what they deliver. The owner may have a cash cow, but I am certainly not going to pay for it. read more

Maybe my perspective is skewed because I'd had four days of terrible coffee beforehand, both from shops and while camping, but I think I would've liked this place a lot, regardless! My go-to non-drip coffee is iced white mocha, if it's available. We ordered two large iced white mochas - one nonfat, one with soy (lactose intolerant husband), both with extra white mocha flavor. Super tasty. They got both orders right. Perfect blend of white chocolate (powder, who are we kidding - that's the best, anyway) and espresso, good, strong flavor that was not overwhelmed by too much milk (espresso drink pet peeve), nice and icy cold. If we weren't eager to get home from camping, we might've stayed for some food and taken advantage of their lovely, somewhat spacious interior or the patio seating. A key is required for the bathroom, which my daughter and I used. It was light and clean and pretty unremarkable, so I wasn't exactly soaking in all the details, but it wasn't smelly, which anyone can appreciate when they're about to consume food or beverage. Allergen alert: They do have foods containing peanut butter (one I noticed was a smoothie), but we weren't ordering food for my peanut-allergic son, so it wasn't a problem. For this reason, I also didn't bother asking about any cross contamination issues, but I recommend always calling ahead if you're not sure about allergen issues, and save yourself the trip if it's a problem. read more

Fifth stop in my perfect capp quest. Coffee Flavor: good Foam: runny Milk: just the right amount Temp: tepid The broad-rimmed cups they serve their cappuccinos in are perfect. Their coffee flavor is good but in needs to be a lot hotter and the foam needs to be a lot stiffer. I tried a blueberry turnover. The pastry crust was thick and dry. The filling was like what you'd find in a Pop Tart. I tried one if their breakfast sandwiches on an english muffin. The cheese appeared to be Kraft american cheese (which isn't really cheese) and the slice of ham it had was paper thin. I believe the breakfast sandwiches you can get at Starbucks are far superior and cost about the same. Local coffee shop with great selection of premium coffee. Tip-bring your own cup and they give you $0.25 off. Buy a pound of coffee and the cup is on the House. Food is also good and a lot of it is freshly made. My bean of choice is the Mexican light roast. This is a local business I love to support. Lots of seats chill, indoor and outdoor. I have fond memories here from when I was in Jr High. It now happens to be on my way to work and I began coming here again. Dawners = awesome. Coffee = good. My latte was creamy and the foam was perfect. However, the workers never seem to be very happy or friendly and are too involved in talking to each other to get the orders done in a timely manner. This is the second morning IN A ROW where they have forgotten to make my food. Once in a while I get it, stuff happens, but I am on my way to work and I don't have 15-20 minutes to wait! Either the staff needs a better system (which I imagine the system is fine since this place has been in business for 15+ years) or they need better training in customer service. Bummed out that I tipped them both times because it wasn't deserved. Sorry Surf City, I'm going elsewhere I guess :( read more

I spent quite a few of my younger years in redwood village back when the deli was a market and you could drive across the small bridge off of Soquel, so i can be pretty sentimental about the small area surf city coffee is in, but more then that, i love Aptos. Now that most of redwood village is holistic healing, eastern medicine Feng shui advisers it's nice to know that there's still a little piece of local sanity and still a reason for me to turn into redwood village. So many things from my youth are gone forever. but this has gotten better. cute girls always with warm smiles and hot coffee. what more could a guy ask for? With free wi-fi and plenty of super comfortable seating, even a little Tupperware box of dried cranberries by the coffee condiments, i never heard of hooking your coffee up with dried cranberries but it's nice to know that if the urge ever hits me, i can try it read more

The last several times I've been in, there's been a definite attitude from the older teens working the counter. The youngest one is conscientious, sweet, but the others act like it's a chore to serve folks. Such a shame. Surf City Coffee is HANDS DOWN the very best coffee shop around! You can tell they are committed to quality and take absolute pride in their business. As a life-long coffee conisseuer, Surf City has one of the best tasting and freshest cups of coffee I've had. They offer a fantastic selection of pastries and snacks, and even offer a ton of Vegan, Organic and gluten free things (that are honestly very tasty, even for a person who doesn't care about that stuff!). Every time I walk into a Surf City, I am energetically greeted by a super friendly barista. Just walking into one of their stores always puts a smile on my face. You can tell they have a ton of repeat customers, because they always seem to know everyone's name and order. It's always a bright and cheery place, with fun music pumping. Not to forget, they are VERY dog friendly. The Aptos and Scotts Valley locations even have a dedicated dog patio where your pooch can lounge while you and your friends enjoy the killer coffee. I'm not sure what the other reviewer was talking about.... Surf City Coffee isn't closed. I've been going there for a while, and in fact was just there two days ago. They're still making great chai lattes, spicy! And their gingersnap cookies are addicting!!! The place is clean and the staff is friendly, and there's a nice little patio area to take your drink and snack and sit under the umbrellas, or the shade of a wisteria vine. This is a relaxing little spot to grab a cup of joe, or a bit to eat if you're hungry.... My hair dresser is right down the street, at Headquarter's, so I come here on a monthly basis. Also, if you're lucky, the local high school has a car wash drive in the bank parking lot right before you hit Surf City if you're coming off of Rio Del Mar exit. They'll wash and dry your car for $5! It's a great deal! read more

Cute little coffeeshop. I've been to the Surf City Coffee in Moss Landing many times, but this was my first visit to the one in Aptos. It has a much more homey feel to it, which I liked. I loved the fact that they have a special fenced patio so you can sit and relax with your drink while letting your dog run around and play! When it comes to sugary coffee drinks, Surf City's Creme Brulee latte is a massive favorite of mine. 99% of the ones I get in Moss Landing are excellent, but the one I got in Aptos was off-flavored. They didn't drizzle syrup on the top, and the espresso flavoring was weak -- hopefully it was just a fluke though..... read more
