I ordered a chai and enjoyed it on their sunnyish patio with a dear friend. This was my first and only experience at the Abbey and it was sweet and simple. The inside aesthetic and vibe is like an old dimly lit library. Nearly every seat was taken and most were working quietly on their laptops. Hands down my favorite coffee shop in SC. The Abbey has a relaxing vibe and is great for studying or working, the employees are nice, and the drinks are good (and I think a little less pricey than other spots in town). A lot of spots in town seem a bit hostile to students who want to study there, offering no outlets, bathrooms, or limited seating. The Abbey stands out because it invites students with all of these things, and is the perfect work spot. They even have a free pancake dinner for students working there during finals week at the end of fall term! This place is all about the atmosphere! In a little corner of the suburbs, it's a lovely little study corner, or place to grab a coffee with a date. The service is efficient and friendly. There is a little parking lot connected, but it gets full, thankfully there's plenty of street parking nearby. Volume inside can vary, but you might want to bring some headphone just in case. I will say I was a little disappointed in my breakfast sando, which I found heavy and would've been much improved with some tomato or a bit of greenery. read more

You find lots of different kinds of people there too, from little old ladies to college students to kiddos there for a hot chocolate, so it's great for people watching. Got an avocado egg toast and it was delicious except for the chili crisps and oil drizzled all over everything. I would have asked not to have it on if i had read the ingredients more closely. I just assumed it was a regular avocado egg toast but it does add a kick. Very chill ambiance here and we enjoyed a game of chess while waiting for the food and drinks. Would definitely stop by here again to have some tea coffee and breakfast/brunch when we are back in town again. read more

I love the chai latte and specialty coffee drinks, but my favorite aspect of The Abbey is the vibe. The decor is reminiscent of Harry Potter with its floating books and curled pages hanging from the ceiling and wall of books stacked into a frame for Insta. It's a warm and inviting place to hang out or study. Oh, and drink coffee! I also like the outdoor courtyard with small tables and chairs, and can't wait to be there when it's warmer. read more

got a soy latte and ube donut here and they were both pretty standard. they also have other standard coffee drinks and food items like pastries and sandwiches. I like that there seems to be comfortable seating for those that want to work and those that want to socialize. The service was very fast and the baristas were super sweet. I've been coming to The Abbey since high school! It's a wonderful and cozy spot, inviting in the winter and also in the summer with its large patio. They have lots of options for drinks and something for everyone. I'm a fan of the Santa Cruz Fog (iced) for a nice pick me up when I don't want lots of caffeine. Also lots of events and things going on all the time! It's a great place and very unique. Really happy that it's still around after all these years. read more

Would definitely like come back! Nice big space! Lot of seating and various tables, chairs, couches, inside (with nice high ceilings). Perhaps a little dark... but still nice to hang out or for working. Also a very large sunny out door patio! Also love that they have what seems to be amateur but still actually quite good art all over - showcasing local budding artists is great. They serve Cat & Cloud coffee - which of course is excellent coffee. My decaf americano was well made and came in a very cute for here mug. It's very big and spacious with lots of seats, natural lighting, nice walls for all the instagram and tik Tok people reading this, and a straightforward yet plentiful menu with a nice selection of drinks. I opted for the pumpkin spice latte which was one of the best drinks I ever had in Santa Cruz. It actually tasted like pumpkin but it wasnt too sweet. I highly recommend it. For food, I also recommend the pesto panini which I low-key would have happily paid $15 for. Its not too spicy, it was perfect. They also sell art prints and cards from local artists, which I bought for friends and family back in SoCal. If you are looking for a very unique gift for a friend or loved one who loves art, or for something that reminds them of Santa Cruz, you should definitely go here. I was bummed that I saved the Abbey as the last place to visit while in Santa Cruz, because I liked it so much. I ordered the Gibraltar with almond milk. It was very smooth, nice and creamy but packed a punch with the espresso. The hubby ordered an iced Brickhouse latte which combines homemade vanilla syrup with a little caramel. Mix it all up with espresso, almond milk and top with ice and you've got a delicious drink. The entire building is very unique along with its surroundings. Something about Santa Cruz makes me feel as though I'm living in a' storybook. Whether it be the beautiful beaches, the lively downtown, or the beautiful forests, the number of mom and pop cafes tops it all. I've been traveling around town studying at each spot to not just familiarize myself with this beautiful town, but to make studying exciting. Throughout my little mission i will say Cafes and coffee shops in Santa Cruz are all incredibly unique. From the menu to the atmosphere each cafe has a unique personality and style. The Abbey is a popular coffee and food shop is located right next to a church and on the way to my schools campus. There's a small parking lot out in front in which makes it convenient. Walking in there's a small area in which books, jewelry, or small trinkets may be purchased. From fresh salads, pastries, food, and drinks it's almost impossible to decide what to get. I ordered a chicken pesto panini that was really good. It came out fast and was scorching hot. Me being eager to try it, i sadly had to wait for it to cool down. This panini is best enjoyed warm as the chicken and cheese don't give you that same wow factor after completely cooling off. I thought this panini was going to be very dry after my first bite, however as i kept eating and getting more of the pesto, cheese, and tender chicken i was pleased. What's cool about this place is that there's a stage area where they have all of the magic mirrors from Snow White hanging. One thing that i dont love is how this place closes at 2PM! As a college student waking up before 12 is a far stretch for us. If the abbey was open until 5 us night owls would be able to enjoy our time in this work space. Over all The Abbey is one of my favorite spots so far out of the few cafes I've been to. The only thing i didn't get to check was if there were any power outlets around the seating areas. However, unfortunately i don't think this place has outlets to feeely charge my laptop which would cut my study Session short. read more

TLDR half a MOCHA gave me horrible caffeine overdose! I drink coffee, mochas and lattes regularly at 11th hour, starbucks, cat and cloud, you name it. Went to the Abbey this morning for the first and last time. I ordered a 12 oz mocha and so did the person I went with. The first sip was so bitter that I could not taste the chocolate. Their mocha was equally disgusting, unfortunately. I drank a bit more, but it continued to taste awful... gave up on the drink. it was $7. Later, I began having CHEST PAIN and my heart was pounding. I had all the common side effects of too much caffeine for a few hours after that and so did the person I was with. It must have been WAY too strong of espresso. Again, this was from two people who drink coffee and espresso often. I'm still not feeling great more than 12 hours later, thanks to the baristas! read more
