Then they installed a solid waterproof barrier, poured a new concrete floor, repaired drywall and it is good as new. That was last month. This week, Joe Martin send his plumbing pros, Ed Ahumada, Jon & Romero to figure out a complex boondoggle which has been wasting gallons of water before hot water emerges. They are working as I write but I have complete confidence based on past experience with MasterCraft that the work will be correctly performed. Not all companies bring such dedication and integrity but MasterCraft is committed to professionalism and everyone is pleasant, qualified and a joy to work with.

Front start to finish, Mike Gast and Juan Navarro worked with me to translate my vision into the bright open studio I have been dreaming of... As the project manager, Mike Gast was extremely patient and accommodating, and provided lots of feedback to solve various issues. This was a large project that involved removing the garage door, retrofitting 3 sets of doors, framing and finishing for a custom look, inside and out. They even installed special thresholds so we could be assured of being able to roll equipment in and out of the space easily. After each stage of the job, the crew cleaned up the area and removed all debris. The price quoted us initially was in line with competitors, better than several, who failed to follow up with us. There was no cost-creep, and we finished at the price quoted us. Progress and payment was tracked on their online job project site, which was an added benefit and inspired confidence. I can highly recommend Mastercraft and hope to use them in the near future for several other home improvement projects. (A special thanks to the team, Victor and Tony for their cleanliness and work ethic).

Instead, we got rough, poorly finished cabinet doors and six months of being ignored. The most visible areas -- the front-facing doors -- were left with raw wood grain and saw marks. A basic sanding and wood filler (used elsewhere on the same project) would have prevented it. When we sent photos, Ricky agreed it wasn't up to his standards and promised to replace the doors after "a busy patch." That was half a year ago. Since then: no responses to calls, texts, or emails. We chose him over a Restoration Hardware or Rejuvenation vanity because we wanted to support a local craftsman who would stand behind their work. That trust was misplaced. Learn from our mistake -- be wary of Dad the Builder. Project budget: $5600 Pros: energetic, young, well intentioned Cons: poor attention to detail, follow through, communication

Ricky was the only one who would tackle the custom door project due to its size. We are so glad we hired Ricky. He responded quickly to our initial inquiry, he arrived on-time to the appointment and gave a fair price for the projects. Ricky worked with us during the design phase and provided us with a drawn rendering of the final project. Once we signed off on it, Ricky proceeded to make the doors in a reasonable time frame and would keep us informed as to the progress. Once the doors were made and ready for installation, Ricky arrived on-time for the appointment, he completed the installation as discussed and left everything clean afterwards. The quality of his work is fantastic! We are very pleased with the final results. We would not hesitate to hire him for future projects

After getting a few quotes, we decided to go with SoCal Woodworks, and I'm so glad we did. James and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with: professional, punctual, courteous, and always respectful of our home. James patiently addressed all of our questions and offered thoughtful, expert guidance, especially when we found ourselves wavering over details (who knew choosing the perfect shade of blue could take 20 minutes?). The craftsmanship and attention to detail were truly exceptional. The final result is stunning, and I'm already looking forward to working with them on future projects.

I originally hired James about 8 years ago when we first purchased our builder-grade home. He extended our kitchen cabinets, added crown molding, and completed additional wood trim and detail work. They did an amazing job, and James was wonderful to work with. Because of that experience, when we recently had a horrible leak that required us to replace our entire kitchen island, pantry, and flooring, along with a few upgrades I had been wanting to do, James was one of the first people I reached out to. His wife was incredibly nice, accommodating, and understanding of our situation. James came out the following Saturday, took measurements, and spent time discussing the repairs and upgrades I wanted done. Then--nothing. I was completely ghosted. If he was too busy to take on the project, I would have completely understood. If the project was too small or simply wasn't something he wanted to take on, that's okay too. But after being a returning customer and taking the time to have him come out, measure everything, and discuss the project, I feel like I at least deserved the courtesy of a response. I called James directly and left a voicemail with no response. His wife had also confirmed my email address before he came out, so there were multiple ways to simply let me know they weren't interested or available. It's really unfortunate because I reached back out specifically because of the great experience we had with James 8 years ago. I would have happily continued recommending So Cal Woodwork to family and friends. Unfortunately, after being treated this way as a returning customer, I can no longer recommend them. Such a disappointing ending to what had previously been a very positive experience.

As the other reviews mention, Michael is extremely knowledgeable on a variety of subjects. He took his time and looked closely at our space, including plumbing and electrical. He talked in depth to my husband, who uses a wheelchair, to see what exactly his needs were for the space, and then he made it beautiful. We had a limited budget, and Michael's design and materials were very affordable and well within our budget. If an adjustment needed to be made, he was flexible and quick to find a solution. He also watched for discounts on materials and saved us hundreds of dollars that way. Often an ADA renovation can look antiseptic, but Michael found flooring and doors and other items that made our new bathroom modern and gorgeous. It has added value to our home. We also hired him to do some additional handyman work like installing kitchen appliances. He pointed out any problems and corrected plumbing and electrical issues along the way. He had lots of tips and tricks on how to keep everything in good working order. He also installed some Smart features in our home to make it easier for my husband who doesn't have access to light switches, garage door openers, etc. He truly is a Wiz! He works hard, leaves everything tidy and is honest as the day is long. I would recommend him for any project big or small. We feel very lucky to have found such a qualified handyman, but also a great friend and neighbor. Thank you Michael!
