From the second I walked in here , I had a bad feeling , as the waiting room was packed. I felt like I was in a dumpy ER with a long wait. But no worries, I had an appointment so I was safe ... right ?.... Walked up to window to check in , asked for I.d and insurance card since I was a new patient. Then gave me a clipboard to fill out and come back up to window to pay my co payment. Since I had a hunch something was not right about this place , especially it being in Antioch ... rightttt before I was about to pay , I said -- "I notice there's a lot of people here, but I have an appointment, so you know how long the wait is?" The lady responds "we are quite busy , maybe around an hour or more " Ok.. so there's no point and doesn't matter that I have an appointment? I just walked out. Of course I didn't think to check reviews beforehand , as it's a medical clinic , and I was referred here by sutter health, so I just rolled with it. This review won't matter , because it looks like many complaints about the same thing , so clearly they don't care. I guess what can I expect for an Antioch dump spot. They canceled my appointment because my old doctor "retired." At least that's what they told me. They rescheduled me for a future date. Turns out my prescription expired before the new date, therefore, I couldn't purchase more contact lenses. I asked CEC if they could at least spot me some samples because I was out of contacts. They flat out refused. I've been a client for years but they would not even consider accomodating my request for some lenses or a sooner appointment. After my Insurance told me they paid the Whole Bill, California I Clinic would not refund my Money back, nor would they send me a Itemized bill showing I paid them 365.00. I been coming here for years, however my last visit was before the pandemic, a lot of things had change since. They remodeled, it looks very nice, they even have a fish. Based on aesthetics they are a 5, they combined new and old, but it looks very nice. Customer service not bad , but not good either is meh! Not sure if they are not morning people or they just don't care. Big plus if you are not bilingual because they have Spanish speaker workers. If you have a copayment and you are purchasing your prescription through them be careful, make sure they don't double charge you (It happened to us twice). And it was a lot back and forth to get that cleared. The optical store , varies the time they are open, they closed weekends, usually in that department they are knowledgeable and nice. They are a 5. For appointments depends on your luck, once they canceled mine and gave it to me a month after, however the other day I called to reschedule an appointment for my dad and they were able to see him the next day. read more

With the shelter in place it was really hard finding any office taking appointments. I had 2 people refer me here. They were the 3rd place I called and they were open! They were able to get me in the next day (Saturday). The woman on the phone asked me to be there 15 minutes earlier due to the paperwork being filled out. From the moment I arrived everyone was pleasant. It took about 15 minutes to complete the required paperwork. But I was anticipating that from my call. I was called back at my appointment time and had tests done and was taken to the room to wait for the doctor. It was a short wait for Dr. Huff. Dr. Huff was patient and listened to my concerns regarding my eyesight. He did a thorough exam and explained a few different ways that may resolve my issue. Suggest you visit the brentwood office its newer-cleaner-never busy, plus no wait time. I have been coming to the the antioch location for several years. They always have the most incompetent staff. The front desk are not knowledgeable whatsoever, they do not even possess common sense. Expect the worse customer service here. The optician I see is not very helpful either, she gave me a new prescription but never told me I had dry eyes or catarasts. Have an eye floater and went to this business to see what was the cause and fix. Dr. Grosserode was fantastic and honorable. He recommended me to see a retina specialist and I will. Now let's get to the staff. They were laughing and joking in the middle of taking care of patients and answering phone calls. I saw an incredible amount of comradery between the staff. I was nervous and scared to see what was wrong with me but because the staff was so professional and fun, it made me very comfortable. Having something wrong with your eyes is a very scary thing but it was only minutes after I arrived there that the scariness went away. The staff was AWESOME!!!!!! The girls all have great personalities and that really helps when a patient feels down. I saw how some patients were not very nice when they checked in and never did the staff's attitude change. Our family has been using this clinic for decades starting with Dr. Grosserode who has always been a fantastic ophthalmologist for our family. We now seen Dr. Ong for our optrometry visits for eye and vision checks and new prescriptions. I recently had an appointment with Dr. Ong for my annual check and she was amazing. While their office is very busy, I was very satisfied with the time she spent with me, that she listened to my concerns and explained everything sufficiently. I am also very happy with both the front and back office staff who are very efficient and friendly. I will continue to use California Eye Clinic for me and my family for many years to come. read more

I have been going to the Calif Eye Clinic for years. The staff and doctors are great. Some times they take too many appointments and it gets crowded and slow. This time when I went there I was very disappointed. With the corona virus still very active I expected more from the clinic. All of the medical offices in the area check the patients temperature and have social distancing. This didn't happen at the Eye Clinic. The waiting room was almost filled and there was no social distancing. I didn't see a lot of cleaning and disinfecting going on. read more

$78 out of pocket having blue cross insurance!!! I just needed a prescription for my reading glasses. Since I had a pretty good insurance, and the insurance said eye exam is covered, I decided to go to this clinic since it was close. I had to wait for one hour, doctor was so moody, reception did not even have smile nor greeting. $250 charge for New patient!!! plus exam fee. I should have gone to other place. Jins charges only $60 for prescription on site. If you read reviews for individual doctors work there, they are horrible. This is a place for those people. read more

Had an eye infection and a corneal abrasion. Hurt like hell, anything to do with the eye is going to be among the worst pain there is I called this place up on a Monday morning, they told me to "come on in, we will fit you in" sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes, then into an exam room. A couple of minutes and someone came in and gave me a basic vision test; you know read the charts with glasses on then without. Doctor Grossrode came in a few minutes later Very nice guy, very first thing he put drops in my eye to numb it, felt so good. After a thorough exam he gave me 2 prescriptions. I left feeling pretty good about the whole experience, my eye started to heal over the next few days But then the eye started to hurt again, I called up and they told me "come on in we will get you in this morning". On the second visit I was treated with the same kindness and respect as the first visit, got a new prescription and the eye healed up just fine in a few days Since I don't have insurance I was a little worried about what this would cost, $70 for the first visit $50 for the second, seemed pretty reasonable to me Now I know where I will go for any type of eye care, I will probably be going back in a couple of months to get my eyes checked for new glasses. read more

I went in for a eye dilation appt they brought me back placed the eye drops and asked me to wait back in the waiting room. Waited over an hour to be brought back from my appt time when I asked the front desk Erica is her name was rude and had an attitude that I was upset that I had asked how long it was going to be and told me I could just reschedule even tho the eye drops where already placed and my co pay paid. She really needs to learn to talk patients or maybe she shouldn't be working in the health field. The staff can ruin the feeling of an office even if the doctor was good. read more

Horrible wait times. If you make an appointment at say 9AM, do not expect to get in for the exam till about 45 minutes later. They seem to not understand the concept that the patients time is just as important as the doctor's time, which is not good. Perhaps they need to schedule less patients, I don't know. Their phone numbers are crazy and they only have one number one person for billing answers. I finally got lucky and someone answered. They said that they did not get my insurance info for visit on Feb 12. I told them I did not even go in Feb 12. I've been coming here a couple years now and today I was treated rudely. Yvonne in the optical eye glasses department was very rude. I told her I was there to get the lens put into my frames first thing that comes out her mouth is we don't do medical lens with your own frames. She didn't listen to anything I said and just assumed I said medi-cal I do not have medi-cal. Idk if it was because I'm African American but she treated me very rudely. When I notified the front desk about her behavior she approached and said she wasn't wrong. She basically had an attitude that she had to help be and started slamming things. Very rude lady. Came in for my 2 yr check up because my old reading prescription is not working and I'm seeing blurry. My appointment was at 4:30 & i was at the office around 4:15. The receptionist handed me new patient paperwork to fill out and I explained that I've been coming here off and on for years. I'm not new. So another staff looked on computer and said no can't find you. I said I was here two years ago. The receptionist says our records show 2003. I told them their record keeping system is messed up. So while I'm waiting for my appointment I refill out new patient paperwork. I told the office staff maybe its under another name, she said ya i found you but your file is in Brentwood. I continue to wait to be called back to a room and around 4:45 Grita whom is a very pleasant and seemingly caring lady does the initial cover one eye read the letters exam and dilated my eyes. I sat in the room from 4:45 to 5:50 before I let Grita know this is not okay to wait so long. Once Meng Lee, O.D.(State License No. 13714TLG) comes in he basically shines a light into my eyes, and looks at info Grita wrote down, then he says I recommend reading glasses and the visit was ended. I had my eyes dilated and was not given proper exam for my prescription. This was completely unacceptable and unprofessional! I then had to explain again the reason I'm here for this exam is because the "prescription ' that I was given in 2013 is no longer working. He said, "oh, you have a prescription?" I said yes and it's blurry and you would have known this had you had my file and medical history. I told him you're not going to just guess on me! Go find my history I scheduled my appointment 3 months in advance there is no reason my chart shouldn't be here. This eye doctor then went to reception to ask them to call Brentwood, but wouldn't you know it was now past 6pm and they were closed. This could of been rectified had this so called eye doctor done a proper exam and seen what my prescription was. Rather he only shined a light in my dilated eyes, looked at Gritas paper from the eye chart and tried to send me on my way. Now I'm forced to get a new eye doctor and second opinion. 2 years ago, I went to this location to get my first pair of glasses. I really liked the doctor and the fitting process. Unfortunately, I recently lost my glasses and needed to get a new prescription. After reaching the person scheduling appointments, I was told that they were scheduling appointments 2 months out and the earliest would be in February. I ended up calling a couple other optometrists in the area who came highly recommended. Each of the offices had appointments available for either the next day or the day after. My little sister went in to this clinic because she needs glasses. She had mentioned to me that they gave her options of frames to pick from. As she picked the style that she wanted, she had asked if it would be possible to get them in black to which they responded "This is what we have, if you don't like it you can go else where where they accept Medi-Cal". I work in the medical field and it's unacceptable to respond to a patient in this way. She explained that they were being rude and had attitude. She is underage and the way they talked to her was completely unnecessary. I'm not really into leaving a "yelp review" for any place but this was impolite and insulting. read more
