This was my second visit to California Fish Grill, and it definitely confirmed why I came back! This time I wife came along. Fast service with quality food cooked fresh. Everything tasted incredibly fresh from start to finish. The battered fish tacos were crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked with great texture in every bite. The lobster garlic roll tray was packed with flavor and made for an amazing shareable item. I also tried the everything protein bowl, which was loaded with fresh ingredients and generous portions that made it both filling and delicious. To top it off, the pineapple cream soda was refreshing and paired perfectly with the meal. I just got back from a trip where I stopped at a cafe with very good reviews outside of Lake Mead. Long story short, I ended up paying $30 for four eggs, a tiny, pitiful portion of potatoes and a half decent decaf coffee that arrived at the exact same time as my food... Super big pet peeve. I was pissed - because I know great value because of places like California Fish Grill! I can get 100 different variations of super fresh and sustainable quality food for an insane value. Like how do they honestly afford to give us this much great quality food? I went in today for something that's not exactly on the menu and the guys made sure to put the order in at the maximum value price using different sides etc. I was able to get a massive plate of really good food & tip 30%+ for 20 bucks. A solid experience overall, with a few minor misses. It's also located in a very busy shopping area where parking can be a bit scarce, so plan accordingly--this is the kind of place many people end up at when hunger strikes while out and about, so expectations may naturally be a bit lower. I ordered the tilapia, which was quite tasty and came with two sides. The kaleslaw was a good concept but didn't taste as fresh as I'd hoped, and the tomatoes with feta--despite being two of my favorite ingredients--were also underwhelming in flavor. After all, this is a fast food restaurant, so adjust your expectations. One letdown was the shrimp premium add-on for the chowder. It turned out to be just a single, tiny piece of shrimp. I double-checked with staff, and that's standard, but it didn't feel worth paying extra. I also asked for extra lemon but received pre-bagged wedges that were soggy and shriveled and looked like they'd already been squeezed (but they hadn't been). On the plus side, the staff was attentive, I liked the self-service ordering kiosks and I appreciated the healthier menu options. I'd never heard of this chain, but found a coupon online for a free bowl and decided to give it a try. I placed the order online through their app and picked up in store. This location had indoor/outdoor seating, seemed newer and was very clean. It was pretty busy on the Saturday evening that I came by. The people working were nice. My everything protein bowl was good and was a large portion, enough for two meals. After hubby's VA appointment, I decided to order to go the everything protein bowl that I hadn't tried yet. Once we arrived for pick up decided to just eat here. We love their battered fish with tartar sauce at the Mesa location so ordered four pieces of it as well. The everything protein bowl (Cajun shrimp, salmon, swab and grilled chicken over rice, beans, diced tomatoes, chili mix, chopped parsley with a side of roasted tomatillo salsa) was severely lacking flavor for me. Definitely needed some additional sauce. Ended up eating all the protein and just a bit of rice. I did feel good about consuming 54 grams of protein:) The battered fish looked nothing like the ones we get at the Mesa location. it was about half the size and was very dark like they were fried at too high a temperature. All the staff were very nice and definitely a 5 star experience as far as customer service goes but the fish was a big let down. I think I'll stick with the Mesa location. read more

First time at California Fish Grill for lunch. Welcomed in by the staff. First impression was place is clean, lots of menu choices. You order your food at the front counter on a screen. Thankfully there was a person to walk you through. O ordered a protein bowl called the salmon burrito. Had a choice of white or brown rice. For an extra charge I had the riced cauliflower. Enjoyed the meal, took a portion home. Lots of ingredients including beans. Probably would spice it up next time. Place has a fast food vibe but it works. Prices are reasonable given the area. We were shopping in the area and got hungry, but we didn't want to drive far. We looked up what was nearby and California Fish Grill came up, so we decided to try it since we'd never been there before. It's a fast-casual place where you order at a kiosk. We ordered the fish and chips and a clam chowder. Besides sodas, they also have $6 cocktails, which was nice. After about ten minutes, we got our food and sat outside on the patio, which was pretty empty and kind of dirty. The clam chowder was hot, but there weren't many clams and it was just okay. Very surprised by California Fish Grill! The food was great and there's many different types of fish to choose from and different styles of dishes. I really appreciated that the menu showed both the calories and the protein in each dish! We got the burrito bowl and the wasabi bowl and they were both so good. I was in the mood for fish all day and just so happened to be shopping in the complex when I decided to give this place a try. Seafood in the desert can be sketchy but I'm glad I gave this place a chance as I was impressed with the freshness, generous serving size and nice dining experience. I ordered the battered fish with white rice and zucchini. I normally don't like order kiosks but there was a nice girl helping everyone at the kiosks so you could ask questions. They have a great selection of choices for each part of the meal including cauliflower rice, brussel sprouts and add ons like shrimp. The flavor was good and the fish fillet was a nice size, cooked well and moist. They have both inside and outside dining and it's a nice dining experience and clean. I really liked that a guy came up and asked how I was liking my food and if there was anything I'd like to change. This does not feel like a fast food restaurant and it was affordable; fantastic value for the money and a great, healthy food choice for this area. I'll be back! read more

The food was delicious but what really got me this evening was the service. After having my last 2 restaurant visits be the worse ever this visit made my whole day. DaShaun and Elena provided amazing customer service. I would drive across town from Laveen any day if I know they're working. They greeted us as we entered the restaurant and although we chose to use the kiosk they did offer assistance with ordering. Both ensured we were good during our visit. I understand that I ordered it via delivery service. A couple days I ordered it and it was insanely delicious. The fish was grilled, juicy, and crisp and yummy. Today.... Not good at all. It's insanely dry, has no flavor, and I didn't even get the sauces I ordered with it. Two completely different experiences within the same week. Went there once before as a part of an Elite event, and hubby and I really liked their food. Last week was the perfect timing for us to go back there again as it was on our way while running an errand. The atmosphere is pretty laid back where you order at the counter and get seated. People working there are friendly, and the food is very yummy! Hubby and I both ordered the sea bass. I got zucchini with it and hubby got brussle sprouts, and both sides were really tasty. I first visited this place 3yrs ago. The batter for fish has changed for the worse. The catfish has less flavor IDK what natter was used with it and the new batter used for other fish seems like bread dough that hold grease more. The kale slaw has changes as well very dry with no flavor. I had green beans for the first time that was over priced for the few I received but Habbit burger has more and taste better with less cost. I headed in a bit before 9pm (I know super late dinner, but it was after an event and we were hungry) along with Bailey B. I went with a grilled salmon entree, and chose sweet potato fries and cauliflower rice as my sides. Bailey had an Ahi Poke Bowl as a salad and the Dynamite Fries on the side. Everything was moderately priced and came out pretty quickly. I do like a fast casual concept like this one, but I'm not a huge fan of ordering on the computer vs. from a human being. My friend was having a hard time with the self-service monitor, so one of the staff helped her. He was very patient. In our party, we tried: fish and chips - you choose 2 or 3 pieces, with 2 sides of your choice. The fish was hot and crispy. The kaleslaw sounded weird but was surprisingly delicious. The kale was chopped up really fine, and the dressing wasn't too viniger tasting. The portion was just right. The shrimp skewers were delicious. I had the garlic butter, and my daughter had the Cajun. She put more hot sauce on hers. my husband chose the shrimp trio, which is coconut shrimp with Grilled Shrimp Skewer & and giant shrimp. Includes choice of sauce and two house sides. He also had the clam chowder, which was delicious. My daughter had the fried chicken sandwich. It was crispy and delicious. The flour tortillas felt thick and firm not soft and pliable. They looked really good. I buy into the battered fish and it was so hot it scorched the roof of my mouth. It didn't scratch it but scorched so bad the skin was already coming off and hanging from my mouth. Then later in the evening my mouth was still in pain. We arrived on Mother's Day Sunday for the @yelpphoenix Yelp Elite event that introduced us to a delicious new seafood spot, @californiafishgrill. We ordered much more than the event perks so I'm reviewing on the actual business page as well. Hubs and I both loved everything that we ordered. He mentioned the batter to fish ratio on the fish and chips was perfect and the fish was well cooked. The fish tacos were also yummy with pickled onion and a very good green salsa and cilantro to give it acidity and flavor. I love any kind of cherry soda so I was excited they had a very healthy and delicious choice, @stubbornsoda Black Cherry with Tarragon fountain drink. The Brussels sprouts are very good and I also really enjoyed the roasted street corn. In all, this was a very delicious Sunday meal and we hope to return very soon. I really enjoy how they have it clearly listed which fish are wild caught and which fish are farmed. There is seating outside in a small gated patio and inside the restaurant at tables booths, and high tables. The code for the restroom is listed on the bottom of your receipt. There is no trashcan in the restaurant, but if you eat in the servers clear your plates for you very quickly. Music is playing and ambiance is casual and bright. There's plenty of shopping nearby in the plaza and we actually got an errand done while visiting by returning items to Amazon at the Staples next door. read more
