The owner did a wonderful job catering for my group at ASU. The students particularly loved the flavorful fried chicken and catfish nuggets. They gobbled up the mac and cheese and didn't leave a crumb of the cornbread. I truly appreciate all that was done to accommodate my last minute request.

    Rules of restaurant

The customer service is horrible. The staff is very unprofessional and talk down to customers. I came to pick my food up and the lady told me to go sit down and wait or I want be service. No standing in the building. As if I was a kid. Don't recommend coming here or spending money in an establishment like this. The food was cold as well. And two ppl ahead of me canceled their orders because the were waiting 20 minutes on their food. They also only had one worker there at the time. I also left a picture of the restaurant rules

Always looking for good soul food in Phoenix. This place is pretty good. I've been here several times and only had one bad experience. Their food is better than their customer service, which tends to be in line with most soul food places out here. You are able to dine in but I typically order to go. Nice ambience but nothing extraordinary. Definitely add this place to your list. Their catfish and fried chicken wings are my favorite!

Yuck. I ordered delivery because I'm packing. I ordered the catfish chicken and some sides. First off I need hot sauce and not none in the bag, I'm moving so things are put away. No tartar with the fish. Luckily I had emergency mini tobacco in my backpack. Whew! On to the food, the catfish was greasy and crazy salty. I Ickes through it but it was like it was covered in sea kelp. It was so salty. Blah. The chicken was also mad greasy but it wasn't good. Not so salty. Dab that off with a napkin and take a bite. The sides, green, Mac n cheese, red beans and rice, and butter mash potatoes. The greens, so salty they were not edible. I like a little garlic salt on mine but I couldn't because they were already so so salty. The Mac n cheese. Okay so I'm a little bougie with Mac because mine is amazing. But this was just a block of Velveeta cheese milk and noodles. Look if you like it like that you like it like that, but I'm out on that one . The red beans and rice. Salty. Those stayed right were they were. 2 bits and my lips about shriveled up. The butter mashed potatoes. They were alright. Too creamy for me. Needed some pepper. I ate it, it was ok. Okay so i recently saw this move called NOPE. That's what I said multiple times while trying to eat this. NOPE! I'm going to have a gallon of water to wash out the salt . I'm not a fan.

Absolutely a must try! This is a hole in the wall the location is hard to get to but the food is so DELICIOUS!! It seems this location handles a lot of to-go orders but their dining room is very nice and comfortable. The vibe pulls everything together and those chairs are SOO comfy! The service was very friendly and when they realized they made a mistake they took care of it right away! Very impressed. Definitely will be back.

One of the best hidden gems in the valley. I was raised on Southern food in Louisiana and this is the closest I've had in the Valley. The fried chicken is great as is their catfish. The absolute best greens I've had. Buttered mash potatoes, and red beans and rice to die for. Very nice dinning area and great fast take out. Custom lemonades are amazing, and yes they have Kool-Aid too. BBQ and steaks also available. Hostess super nice and friendly. This is a must try place but bring your empty stomach portions are big. Guy Fieri you need to feature this place!!!!!

Everything was excellent. The food was made to order, got delicious lemonade but it was so yummy didn't get a flick before taking a picture! Everything was so fresh, so crisp, seasoning was on point, this is definitely a hidden gem and I will be back!

    Peach Cobbler

This little jewel was delicious. The smothered chicken was full cooked and crispy on the first bite. I needed to have my new years greens and they didn't disappoint. So I'm very happy and will bring more people to this family owned restaurant. Thank you for my first of the year lunch.

I was proactive and made reservations from their website. It was same day so we got in for 1:30 PM which was great when you want a lazy morning. Upon arriving, the location is in a shopping plaza but nothing else appears to be open or even in business. There's plenty of free parking in the lot but we took a ride share. There's nearby retailers like Costco but in this complex it looked dead except for Sugar Jam. When you enter, people were waiting to be seated and you can hear the music from outside! This is a lively, DJ friendly atmosphere with lots of activity happening from the bar to the dining room. The hostess checked us in, we walked around and took pictures, admired all the beautiful people dining and it's an open kitchen where you see the orders coming up. Mom and I were seated maybe 10 minutes after our reservation time. We were greeted by Vante - such a nice young man who was patient and helped us decide on what to order. We settled on the margarita flight, the watermelon hibiscus whisky smash, wings & waffles and the French toast and chicken. I also got blessed with a shout out from the DJ and a free shot for my birthday! The food came out quickly (however not together), was plated nicely and the flavors were present. The brown sugar butter and warm syrup on my French toast was a hit. The only complaint I'd note is the heat inside the establishment. I left my fan and desperately needed it. They did eventually bring out some industrial fans to cool the dining area off. The a/c needs to crank harder with all the bodies plus open kitchen. Otherwise, a great spot to eat, sing along, vibe a little and enjoy great breakfast food.

Love the decor, the space, & the live DJ. We got sat in the back room, and the table we were at was extremely warm. We couldn't feel the AC (no ceiling vents in that back space) & the fan they had in the room wasn't reaching our table. Luckily, our server Vonte was helpful getting us moved to the table along the wall once the previous guests left so we could at least feel the fan. But this was really one of the only negatives of the experience (along with there only being 1 toilet for how many guests can be in the space). I was beyond excited to see vegan options on the menu!! I didn't check ahead of time because I always assume I will just have to get avocado toast or a salad when I go to brunch spots with friends. So when I saw there was a little corner with 2 items for us, I was thrilled. I got the sweet potato veggie hash bowl, and I'm excited to come back to try the pancakes next time. The bowl was the perfect portion and filling. The sweet potatoes were a little harder than I like, but they were still delicious and the whole dish was well seasoned. I ate every last bite it was so damn good. My friends ordered the Salmon Croquettes & grits meal and the flapjacks N' fried chicken tenders. They were both generous filling portions (so much so they both had to take food home), and they both enjoyed what they ordered. It's super far north for me, but it's totally worth the drive for the weekend brunch vibes. Can't wait to come back again!

However, this food is soooo damn good that I'm going to be a good girl until they finally come over. Lol It's not that they're standing around doing nothing....these ladies are working, running back and forth between tables, answering the phone, not to mention how many times I heard the ping of what I think was online orders. Anyway, we visited today (Sunday) and it was quite packed in there. Yes, it took about 10 minutes for someone to come over to us (we sat at the counter) but when we put our order in, it came put pretty fast and piping hot!! My husband had the catfish, slaw and macaroni and cheese. He finished it all! I had the smothered pork chops with rice and gravy and mashed potatoes and gravy. Mmmm carbs....amirite?! These were absolutely heavenly. The pork chop was tender and the gravy was so savory. I saw another review that someone complained the pork chops had bones but girl, that is where the flavor is! You better believe I gnawed on those things. Also, the corn bread...amazing, buttery, moist. I honestly can't wait to come back! Ignore the negative reviews, come here and try it yourself! For sides I had mixed greens with hot sauce and mac and cheese. The collards were tender and delicious and the mac and cheese didn't even come close fo K..... Dinner. It was loaded with cheese and truly memorable. It also came with a large piece of homemade cornbread with lots of butter on top. Companion ordered the child's plate which is 2 pieces of chicken and and 2 sides. Ordered were cole slaw and mac and cheese. Because we are both diabetics, we both ordered unsweetened tea, but I really wanted a glass of the sweet tea which you get all through the south. We had planned on getting the wonderful peach cobbler for dessert, but we were so full that it would have been impossible to get down. Other items on the menu are smothered pork chops, fried catfish, and chicken fried steak as well as a host of other items. The restaurant recently underwent a complete renovation and it is really nice inside. Lest I forget to mention it, This is a small place that has been here for as long as I can remember. Tucked back in a small building, just off Southern Avenue, you'll find Southern Fried. It is a small little walk in store front, so plan ahead to order out. We went ahead and ordered online to make things simple and easy. As shown on their building and advertised they show they serve Jamaican food so I was pretty let down when I looked at the menu to discover they do not have any Jamaican food. Seeing pictures of previous Yelp reviews of jerk chicken and oxtail left me bummed. We ended up ordering the fried okra, fried mushrooms, the 2 fish and 5 shrimp combo, along with the fried catfish and fries. We took our food to go and headed home, just around the corner. Once opening the containers i instantly got excited about the mushrooms. Anyone that knows me knows i am mushroom obsessed. With a quick dip in the ranch that came with and popping one into my mouth.... Yummmm! The okra was a bit of a miss. It seems they were still a bit slimy. Moving along to our main courses, I was disappointed to find that our fish was packed on top of our fries and the fries were very limp, soggy and unseasoned. I think packing the takeout differently could easily eliminate this issue. The catfish and shrimp were seasoned to perfection. They both had a perfect blend of spice and a light and crispy batter. I would love to see Jamaican food on the menu, as the advertising is a bit deceptive. Overall I would definitely be willing to try them again and would love to give one of their burgers a taste test.
