They had a great selection of sizes, colors and designs. They had the 1/2, 3/4 and 4/4 sizes in stock. I did ask if it was OK to grab the instruments to look at them before just to make sure. I'm 6'1 so I needed to see which size was suitable for me. They pulled out different sizes and colors so I can decide what to get. Finally found the one, at a great price. They also have the gig bags in stock so I got me one. The gentleman tuned it up and went over it before I left just to make sure everything was OK. Will be coming back here again in the future.

Kids need to practice at home, in order to advance. Practice makes perfect. Mr. S runs a strict class and he can be very sarcastic or seem rude. Some kids needs a little more discipline than others. In our situation This school , Mr.Ferguson and Mr.S has helped my son grow, mature and become more confident in all aspects of everyday life not just music. As far as music he has learned so much in the year he has been here that I am confident he can and will continue to learn and have music in his life for a very long time.

There are cameras in the lesson rooms, but parents do not have access to them, only the business owner does. Occasionally, I would sit in with my children, but later I was asked to remain in the waiting room as the teacher felt the kids distracted each other. Recently, a very concerning incident occurred. My son told me that during his lesson, his teacher showed him an image to demonstrate "good posture." When he first described it to me, I wasn't sure what kind of picture it was, and I initially gave the teacher the benefit of the doubt. However, when I later asked Miss Lee (the owner) and the teacher to show me the same image, I was shocked to see what it was. The picture had no real connection to piano playing or posture and, in my opinion, was completely inappropriate in the given context, especially considering it was shown to my son alone in a room with his male teacher. To be clear, the photo itself was not offensive on its own. What made this troubling was the context and lack of relevance to piano instruction. I felt it crossed a boundary of professionalism. I brought this issue directly to both the owner and the teacher on Friday, August 29th, and was told that it would be reviewed with their board. I am sharing this so that other parents are fully informed about the environment and practices here. Every parent has the right to decide what they are comfortable with for their child's lessons, and for me, this situation raised serious concerns.

I started taking guitar lessons from Mike when I was about 13 (I'm 20 now) and didn't really know what a quality lesson environment was like, until then (i juggled between different instructors and lost interest before this). He provides a genuine, straight forward, professional, positive, and warm setting for all his students to grow into guitar shredding/melodic/knowledgeable beasts. Mike is undoubtedly a professional at his craft and he goes out of his way to really make sure you have a strong foundation of musical knowledge to build from. He helps you develop your own style in whatever genre you want, and really makes you see that anything is possible if you just apply yourself. I find myself reviewing notes from years ago and constantly find new ideas + insights to build on, which proves that his lessons are rich with valuable information. If for some reason civilization had to restart, and there were no guitar texts left but my binder of lesson papers that I compiled over the years, the world would soon shred again without any problems. I AM EXTREMELY CONFIDENT that you will NOT find another experience like this in a lesson room. Guitar is an amazing instrument and without a great person guiding you in the right direction, you can miss out on a lot of great experiences and wisdom. I feel extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to take lessons from Mike and I can't say enough good things about my experience. Although I never got a chance to take lessons from any other instructors at the academy, if MIKE thinks you're qualified to teach, you HAVE to be amazing at what you do lol. California Guitar Academy is a great place to learn about music and musicianship. All of the teachers are very passionate about teaching music and truly care about their students growth. I have been taking lessons with Mike since March of 2007, when he was teaching elsewhere. The place where he was teaching was not the most suitable place for learning. Learning on what he had seen, he wished to create a safe and open environment that nurtures learning in which he could teach. He then started California Guitar Academy. I chose to stick with Mike as he made the transition to California Guitar Academy and do not regret it. Every lesson, he was engaging and bought forth new ideas to work on, and new exercises. A lot of the exercises are some that he has composed himself to address a certain area of guitar playing technique that needs help with. This is something that I appreciate of him, since he is very versatile in his lessons and will adapt to each student's needs. I have been interested in music theory since I started taking lessons with Mike. He adapted his teachings to suit these needs and answered the many questions I had about music theory. Thanks to what he taught me, I skipped two semesters of music theory at my community college. Mike also is a great mentor that truly cares about the development of his students. He gave me motivation and confidence when I had an audition, or a performance to do. These experiences helped nurture my development as a musician. Last August, I had my last lesson with him before I transferred to UC Berkeley. In many ways, thanks to him, I made it there. His lessons, and the concepts that he taught me still show up in harmony class. New concepts taught in class this semester are easier to comprehend thanks to the good foundation of music theory he taught me. I recently began studying guitar at the Academy with teacher/owner Mike Brunner and could NOT be HAPPIER! (I am a drummer who has known Mike for many years, but just recently started guitar lessons with him). The facility is highly professional, spacious and extremely impressive, with clean, modern fixtures and amenities and ample parking in back. Having had the unique honor of performing with Mike in a prior musical project, I can honestly say without bias or hyperbole that Mike is quite simply the most technically proficient, soulfully expressive and versatile guitar player I have ever met -- which is why I chose him as a teacher. His mind-blowing playing ability is only matched by his absolute natural gifts as an educator and his amiable personality. Mike has ensured that his staff are also outstanding guitarists as well as great teachers. What I appreciate most about Mike is how he customizes his lesson approach to the needs and skill level of each student, rather than using the boilerplate, one-size-fits-all curriculum other music teachers employ. Mike knows how to build on strengths in technique, to customize exercises for weaker areas, and to instill confidence in his students. (Other students have had similar positive experiences with CA Guitar Academy. As a drummer by trade, I am often approached by people needing referrals to guitar teachers. The California Guitar Academy is an amazing place to study music! The instructors there are extremely experienced and can help everyone from the beginner just learning how to hold the instrument to the seasoned player looking to sharpen his/her skills. And they can help you become better in any genre. Not just the typical rock or blues. (Although they can help with that too) I had been a self-taught metal-head guitar player for two years before meeting the owner Mike. I learned more about technique and just how to play the instrument better in the first few months than I had the whole two years of being "self" taught. I stayed with Mike for over five years while studying jazz in college and it never got boring. There was always something new he could show me. A new voicing for this chord, or a different way to play this arpeggio. And he always has an amazing energy about him. He sees many students each day but is always excited to sit down with everyone. The guitar academy is hands down the best place for guitar lessons in the city of Downey and I'd say in the surrounding cities as well. I took lessons with Mike Brunner for 4 years and he is the best music teacher I've ever had. As long as you have the determination to learn and practice Mike can make it so that when you pick up a guitar sweet sweet music is gonna come out of it. He is very patient and extremely personable. He also goes the extra mile for his students and really molds his lessons around who you are as a player. You're not just learning pentatonic and blues scales here. You're getting very well thought out lessons and instructions. He's just a fantastic instructor. I don't take lessons at the academy anymore but I can still come by and get a guitar checked out or set up, schedule permitting. That's that extra mile I was talking about. As a mother of a musician, I was interested in this facility. I have a son who at the early age of 10 wanted to learn guitar. Found a private teacher and watched his progress. This teacher left our area and I then had to find another spot for my son. After talking with many people, I did find a music store close to our home and he began a weekly lesson there. The teacher was excellent in not only teaching the guitar but with theory and the ability to read music. Now this was an area I found out wasn't necessarily the case with some teachers. I was completely happy with this teacher, but what bothered me was the area where the lessons were given. The size of a closet, seriously! No window, just a closet. When I walked into the California Guitar Academy, I was first happy to see open glass rooms and a comfortable place to wait for your child while they took the lesson. Music stores just seem to shove the lesson rooms in the back (so you can see all their merchandise as you walk through) and again dark and not a place you really want to be. One of the first things I asked of Mike Brunner, my instructor at California Guitar Academy, is that I want to be challenged. He said, "Oh I can do that." That is how it has been taking guitar lessons with him. He makes me think and at the same time enjoy learning about what Music is.......Rhythm, Melody and Harmony!! Even when he corrects how I may be playing a piece, my fingering or how to make easier chord transitions, he helps you in a way that builds confidence and determination to continue, and then when you finally get it, what a wonderful feeling of accomplishment! There are no words to describe how grateful we are with the services Debbie Carter has given our daughter. My daughter has autism and has had a difficult time with speech and communication. Mike is the best! I started taking lessons from Mike Brunner when I was in 3rd grade, and I don't know what kind of musician I would be without him. I acquired innumerable skills ranging from the basics that every guitar player must have to above and beyond skills that make a musician great. As soon as you walk in, there is a level of a clean atmosphere, especially with the arrangement of the furniture inside the academy. However the service doesn't end there. Debbie Carter is a FANTASTIC vocal coach, classically trained and will help you no matter what you're looking to improve, vocal range, pitch, harmonies, etc! Riley has started to leave her comfort zone thanks to her! It is evident my daughter is not only growing vocally but also as a person with new found confidence. Ms. Katherine's feedback approach is simple but helpful for children to understand. She asks her students what they think they did well and what they can improve which opens the door for a growth mindset and allows the students to receive positive criticism. She then gives feedback and my daughter applies what she was told to her singing in front of her. At the end of every lesson, she gives them a small sweet treat They have an adorable waiting area where you can read books or complete a puzzle while you wait for your kids to finish their lessons. My four year old and future Fantasia student loves the waiting area and is upset when she stays with dad. All in all, witnessing my daughter grow in her passion at Fantasia is a part of my life I will look back at when she performs on big stages. I spoke with him last week and made a lesson for today at 11:30am. I got there 10 mins early and he was not there and the business was closed. I sent Xaiver a text at 11:26 am and received no response. Then I called him at 11:30 am and left him a message. I never got a phone call back, even though his VM says that he promises to return calls. I waited some more and finally left. I never received a call back. What a waste of time and what a poor way to manage your business and treat customers. My daughter was heart broken because she was excited for the lesson. I do not recommend GLS for any lesson.

Upon arrival for our appointment, there was no one to greet us as the entire place was empty. I thought it very strange that the door was left unlock - anyone could've cleaned out the place. After sitting in the waiting area for 30 mins (I don't know why I even bothered waiting that long), I finally decided to email back the contact I had been corresponding with (as they never left me a phone number to call nor did they ask for mine; I had no idea who I was corresponding with as they never addressed himself/herself). Additionally, I decided to text the number listed on the business' Yelp page as it looked like a mobile number, hoping it will get to the same individual. They eventually texted me back they were running late (50 mins after the appointment time) and to help myself to coffee in the conference room. A gentleman comes in another 10 mins later, apologizing that the manager got sick and sent him to meet me in her place. He escorted us to the conference room to go over the program and the classes they offered. To no fault of his own, I can see he was trying his best to sell the school but at that point, I was already turned off and found the whole establishment unprofessional. Even my daughter said she preferred a different studio than this one. I'm sure they have great instructors/staff but they really need to work on improving the administrative/customer service aspect as that is the first impression of all potential clients/students. He mentioned there was a registration fee, but after the appointment debacle, you would think they would've considered waiving it. Additionally, if the manager was going to be late, the only decent thing to do was to notify me. This is a good example of why you need to scout/visit different places before just settling on one as reviews can often be skewed.

I called them finally on Tuesday and she said she got my message and was "getting to it", then they said my child just had to miss her lesson for that week when we have already paid for 16 weeks. Also, if your school has a break or holiday, don't expect to receive all of the lessons you've already paid for, they just skip those and don't give makeups for them. Futhermore, they do not let you communicate with the instructor directly at all. I was trying to text our instructor to let her know what days we're available and the person from the office said No, I do the instructor's schedule you don't need to contact them. I think the price is pretty good for in home lessons though. My issues are not with the instructor at all she is lovely and knows all types of instruments.
