    Drive Thru

California Taco Shop has recently taken over the Rally's drive thru spot in La Mesa. This location offers NO inside nor outside seating. They do have a walk up window, in addition to the drive thru. I had the Crunchy San Andrea's Breakfast Burrito which came with crunchy corn tortillas, bacon, scrambled eggs, cheese, and a creamy chipotle sauce for $12.99 plus tax. The burrito was on the large side. I asked them to slice the burrito in half, when I ordered it, but they did not do it. I was disappointed with that. The burrito came with a good amount of crunchy corn tortilla chips but it would be nice if they would slice them into small pieces of strips. The bacon was very good and the eggs had a decent scramble. Another words, they could have been better scrambled. In the end, the burrito was tasty and quite filling. The hospitality was friendly enough and so was the service, but they did forget to put napkins in with my burrito. I hate that, so it was a messy experience.

Second trip here tonight for their taco Tuesday. Got the special with the rolled tacos, crunchy beef taco and quesadillas before, tonight got one each of the pollo asada, carnitas and birria. The meat is very well seasoned served with finely diced onion, cilantro and fresh guacamole. Very friendly service.

So excited for this new location. I love the one off Division. Came here last night to see if my go to was the same (surf & turf fries) Slightly different with the pico but it's not bad. Still really good, will just ask to take it out next time. Also ordered a chipotle breakfast burrito that was $6, it was a decent size and really hearty. Overall, really happy there's finally a taco shop I like in this area. Everywhere else around SDSU has let me down. This location is actually really cool too. I love that they kept the rally's theme. Walk up window and drive through. One thing I did notice though, was they only had one table for dining. Maybe add some more on the side or the back. Great service!

New taco shop here in La Mesa. I ordered the California burrito, and unfortunately I was disappointed. The meat had several chunky pieces of fat that were tough to chew. The salsas were tasty, but they weren't spicy at all. I'm hoping they improve with time, and I'll probably give them another try in the future, but for now this was my impression.

A NEW taco shop in La Mesa!! we came for the $3 taco Tuesday special and they did not disappoint!! They were filled with meat and guac. They are mini tacos but are super filling! I tried the carne asada, pollo asado, and adobaba. The carne asada was charred and wasn't fatty. The pollo asado was tender and flavorful! The adobaba was not my favorite. It was more of just seasoned meat but not too much flavor. I also tried the horchata which was good, but tasted more like the powered mix. There's no seating outside, which it's more of a pick up and take home place. They do have a drive thru which is convenient. Definitely stop by and give this new place a try!

As a Mexican, I'm pretty picky about tacos, and these did not disappoint! We ordered through the drive thru so I can't say much on the inside of the shop. The tacos were amazing! meat was flavorful, fresh, and not greasy, and you can tell everything is made to order. The freshness really shows in every bite. Definitely coming back and would 100% recommend this place!

We came in at around 9PM. The food came by pretty quickly and was hefty. However, I asked for no guac because of allergies and it came with extra guac instead . They profusely apologized and even made a new one and let me keep the guac one. I also got the horchata wasn't watery which is a plus. Service was exceptional and food was a lot. It's drive through only though, no dine in.

They just opened up here in La Mesa, the food was nice and hot when we got it. Carne asada fries were okay, nothing special.

The Catalina burrito is good. The service was average. I would definitely come back here.

The tortilla can't hold the generous helping of chicken, which has a great flavor. By the time I finished the second one, and all of the chicken, onion and cilantro that spilled from the tacos, I was full. (I'm a senior citizen and I eat less now than I used to, so YMMV). I like their chicken tacos a lot better than Sombrero's chicken taco a la plancha, which has been my go to for lunch for years. That said, my wife prefers the California burrito at Sombrero, since the one from Chuy's had more fries than meat. The pollo asado quesadilla was very filling and very tasty (plenty of meat). Chuy's is right next door to Funky Burgers, and given the fresh food aspect of Chuy's offerings, I'd say Chuy's is probably better for you.

They definitely get a lot of to go and order ahead business as a lot of people came in after us and the phone Rand constantly while we were waiting for our order. Once we tried our food I can see why it was so busy. I had the tequila lime shrimp burrito and subbed Serrano pepper for a bell pepper. It also came with grilled onions, delicious rice and other items. It didn't have salsa and didn't need it. The peppers were spicy and added a nice heat. So good. Family had pollo asado tacos with guacamole that could've used a little more placer, but the chicken was flavorful. Hubby tried shredded beef rolled tacos packed with meat and covered in cheese, sauce and guacamole. Hubby also had a surf and turf quesetaco with carne asada and shrimo. All of the food was delicious, made to order and piping hot. Kind of a whole in the wall and a hidden gem. Thanks for the heads up Yelpers.

I wanted to find a sit down spot that could deliver that same citrusy, flavor packed experience and this place was everything. We came in pretty close to closing without realizing, and I hate doing that because I know how it feels working in food service, but the staff still maintained such a great attitude. We were told to seat ourselves and while the inside was way too hot to sit comfortably, the outdoor patio was perfect. Our server brought out water and menus almost immediately and even after realizing they closed at 8pm, we never felt rushed at all. The menu is full of mariscos classics like ceviches, aguachiles, tostadas, and larger plates. Prices range from affordable to a little higher, but the portions definitely reflect that. My husband and I both got tostadas to start. I got the La Special and he got the aguachile tostada, and thinking the portions would be small, we also ordered carne asada fries and a California burrito... which we definitely didn't need... BUTT I am glad we got them because YUM! The tostadas were a 100/10. The portions alone felt more than an appetizer/snack. The La Special was loaded with raw shrimp, cooked shrimp, and octopus, all super fresh with great texture. I just wish there was a little more avocado. The aguachile had that perfect citrusy, spicy kick that makes it addicting. Incredible, and I mean it. Our server also brought out a variety of sauces like chipotle crema, green salsa, red salsa, and sour cream. I added some chipotle sauce to the carne asada fries, which already came with guac and sour cream, and it took it to another level. The portion was huge, especially compared to places charging $20+ for fries. These were around $15 and came with crispy fries, flavorful meat, and a good amount of cheese. The California burrito was $12.99 and really filling with carne asada, fries, and cheese. The tortilla was soft but held everything together well and it hit exactly how a California burrito should. I seriously left with no complaints. The service was amazing, the food exceeded expectations, and this is definitely going into our regular rotation.

Had our dog on the patio and enjoyed tacos, shrimp ceviche (very fresh) and drinks. This spot 100% reminded me of when I went to La Paz. It's very clean, and I already want to go back. Tacos basically get two for one, loaded with meat and toppings. Best octopus we've had and we spent a lot of time in Okinawa and Mexico. 10/10 will be back!
