This has by far been my favorite outdoor range in the SoCal area. Everyone was so nice and helpful, and the RSO Tom even helped me zero in my red dot at 100 yards. There is a lot of wildlife here, so be very cautious of the deer and cows. read more

Finally made it out to this range which was formerly Wes Thompson's Rifle Range. The workers here could not be more friendly and accommodating. I explained it was our first time at this particular range and they explained everything and showed me the map before taking us all to the private range we had reserved. Make sure you go over the driving directions when you leave, as we had no mobile phone service once we got deep onto the dirt road. Follow the signs and you'll get there eventually. I wouldn't drive there with a lowered vehicle or fancy sports car as there is about 1.5 miles of dirt road you have to drive on that's a bit bumpy. Just drive slowly. I didn't check the selection of rentals they had on offer as I have my own toys, but I have heard it is better than most. We got a private range on a Wednesday and it was incredibly cheap ($100 for 2 people all day, $40 each additional person). They bring out steel targets for you to use and then leave you alone to have fun. You can draw from holsters, rapid fire, do drills, etc. No 1-shot per second nonsense, Their public rifle range has steel targets out to 1000 yards so you can see how good your skills really are. Lots of fun steel targets to shoot. You can finally stretch out your rifle and those high dollar optics. For the first time I wished my 6-24x scope had more magnification. I wish this range were closer but it was only about 1 hour from the Pasadena area which isn't too bad at all for 1000 yard steel. I believe it may be the only range in the los Angeles area that has steel out to 1000, as Angeles Shooting Range is maximum 600. I am definitely going to return to this place again soon! read more

The western-themed shooting bay was such a cool touch and honestly super postable for content. The whole setup felt immersive and well thought out, not just a standard range experience. Tons of guns available to rent, ammo to buy, and other gear on hand, which made it great value for spending the entire day there. Service was solid. The staff was relaxed, knowledgeable, and respectful of experience level. We were able to use our own firearms and do our thing without someone hovering over our shoulders, which was refreshing compared to other ranges that can feel overly hand-holdy and awkward. The ambience really sets it apart. Clean, organized, and themed in a way that makes the experience feel elevated instead of sterile. I took my husband here to get some extra practice in before his range master test. The people were very nice and answered all our questions. The instructor my husband worked with was amazing and even laughed about why my husband was even there. Once he saw how good he was he tried to see where his weaknesses were so he could help him work on those. The value is very good for the instruction you get. I left my husband there to train for 2 hours and we went to hang out in Ventura. My husband got to hang out with one of the employees while I was stuck in traffic to come get him. They had a nice conversation about what guns are good for different sports and such. Overall we had a great experience at this place. I would recommend it to anyone. read more

I was struggling to sight in a new scope and wasting a lot of ammo. Tom stepped in, got me perfectly zeroed, and took the time to teach me exactly how to do it myself for the future. I took a red dot optic class with Vahagn. It was simply amazing. I started off struggling to hit the target and get on point. By the end of the day, my shooting had improved dramatically, night and day. Vahagn took the time to spend with me to go over the theory and go over the physical handling of my gun and optic. First time went with a buddy of mine last weekend. Great staff. Everyone was friendly. Great prices. Especially if you go during the week when it's less busy. You can stay there all day no time limits, just one flat rate. I just have to be sure to bring some Diet Coke next time for Tom. ( I couldn't remember his name but based off all the other reviews it sounds like him) Really helped me with my groupings on my rifle. It's crazy what a few pointers from an experienced shooter can do to help you out. All he asks for in return is a Diet Coke lol. A great addition to my shooting range favorites. What drew me to this range from South Orange County was the chance to shoot 1000 yard targets, avoiding the six hour travel time out to and back from BLM land. These targets are at an elevated position of 13 degrees. Not ideal but you get what you get in SoCal. On the positive side there are targets all the way out to 800 yards that are moderately elevated. Part of the fun was trying to locate targets out past 600 yards up the canyon, some on the left but most on the right. CTA does have posted information on the locations and ranges if needed. I preferred to locate them through a 4X range finder. I learned that a pair of hunting binoculars would be a handy addition. CTA provides a number communal spotting scopes behind the firing line for your use. Most targets out to 600 yards, 3 degrees elevated, are the hanging variety so you get instantaneous feedback, both movement and sound. No resetting needed. Laura (check-in) and Tom (RSO) have been working for CTA 10 plus years. They are both very friendly and knowledgeable. Tom was handing out shooting tips like it was candy. The cost is very reasonable considering I was paying $40 to shoot at Pala Shooting Range out to 850 yards, hitting 9" MOA steel. I love their bench toppers, best ever. They are made of recycled tire rubber, chipped, compressed and glued. They were one and a half inch thick. These had a great feel, no slip. You won't have to worry about wood rot and splinters. I will be back soon. Hoping to participate in their long range precision shooting course soon. read more

Where do I begin with this awesome range ... PROS 1) This range goes out to a whopping 1000 yards! In comparison, ASR only goes out to 600, and Burro Canyon only goes out to 200. 2) Parking is VERY close to the benches - particularly convenient for solo shooters. 3) I saw no fewer than 4 "communal" spotting scopes (Leupolds, no less!) provided by the range - there is no fee or deposit required for using them. 4) I saw at least 2 wind socks downrange, which shooters may find help helpful in estimating windage corrections. 5) The staff seems chill yet very strict on safety - while I did not witness this myself, my range buddy said he saw a cohort of guests ejected from the pistol-side of the range by the staff during our visit (presumably for committing one or more safety violations). 6) The entry paperwork is quite minimal compared to ASR - just a simple sign-in sheet. It's almost like you are getting treated like (and held responsible as) an adult who can read massive signage. 7) Let's just say the clientele here seems to be on the more "experienced and responsible" side compared to some other ranges I have been to ... CONS 1) No flush toilets on-site, only porta-potties (huge plus in favor of ASR, tie with Burro). 2) No cellular phone reception on the premises - to be fair, there's none at Burro either, and it's spotty at ASR. That said, there *is* wi-fi on-site. 3) During my visit, I found at least one of their rifle range benches (#17) was wobbly (hopefully it was just an outlier - the others I sampled - #18 and #19 - were sturdy). I advise asking to be assigned to a different bench if you are assigned to a wobbly one. 4) You must travel on a gravel driveway for ~2 miles before arriving at the range. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES 1) Benches are assigned by the RSO, and not selected at the discretion of patrons. 2) Targets and target stands appear to be pre-setup by the range staff. During my 6-hour-ish visit, there was only one cease-fire called by the RSO (not counting the final one during closing) - apparently at the request of a patron to setup a closer target at around. Unlike ASR and BC, there are not pre-scheduled cease-fires declared at regular intervals. 3) The longer-distance rifle targets (e.g. 1000 yards) are situated at a *very* high elevation relative to the benches - I maxed out the height adjustments on my bipod and I still had some difficulty with obtaining a comfortable and suitable rested shooting angle (I saw other shooters using blocks of wood as an ad hoc solution in obtaining a suitable shooting angle). I believe it is worth considering bringing a tripod to shoot off of if you plan on engaging targets at these distances at this range. 4) There appears to be no rapid fire rule. I witnessed some shooters firing off multiple rounds within a 1-second time frame, and observed no admonishments from any RSOs. We can chalk this up as a good thing as long as everyone is safe about it! read more

Great outdoor shooting range with tons of open space. It's in a remote, deserted area which makes it feel private and stress-free. Plenty of room to set up safely without being crowded, and it's perfect if you prefer shooting outdoors instead of an indoor range. Quiet, open, and a solid spot to practice. The folks here are as good as it gets. The Range Safety Officers are on point in maintaining a safe place while recognizing the different shooter's capabilities. The folk are happy to lend a hand in improving your shooting experience. We needed help getting our new rifles zeroed. Tom brought out his sled to lock down the guns, got us barrel sighted, and then helped walk us through the zeroing process while calling out from the spotting scope. Mike helped as well once we using the sled. Other long range shooters that are regulars were kind enough to offer help with our shooting such that we were far more accurate at distances as the day wore on. Luis was great at the desk. All in all, can't wait to go back next week and shoot in my first competition amongst the long range guys. Good place to shoot hand guns and rifles. They have plenty of competitions to watch and possibly consider jumping into to improve skills with like minded gun enthusiasts. Stay safe on dirt road ride out there. Drive 15 mph or lower. Bring a snack and lots of water, and have fun. read more

This place was way in the mountains with only dirt roads, so drive slow. You check in and then have many areas to shoot. My ccw trainer took me to a private area with metal targets at different distances away. They had the cleanest porta potty there. I have ever experienced! I mean no smell and clean. We shot for 3 hours. Gets a bit windy up there, so bring a jacket. The guy who checks you in with dreads was very nice and a cutie! Only taking one star off for the dirt roads, as your car gets really dirty no matter how slow you drive. Great place for practice. Especially when all alone. read more
