The guy working the window was genuinely friendly and took the time to give me samples of both the pulled pork and the brisket, which already told me they care about what they're serving. I went with the mac & cheese brisket bowl with jalapeños on top, and it delivered exactly how it looked. Rich, smoky brisket over creamy mac and cheese with a solid kick from the jalapeños. It looked amazing and actually lived up to it, which doesn't always happen. For the past couple of months, tacos ELSY has been parked on the side, serving up a variety meats besides the usual asada, pollo, chorizo, and al pastor, but lengua, tripa, suadero, buche, and cabeza as well. These meats are served up in various ways : tacos, burritos, mulitas, quesadillas, vampiros, taco dorados, alambre, and tortas. There's even papa rellena. They even have aqua frescas available and cold drinks in the ice chest. The service is always friendly, the food come out quickly, and you can have the food to eat there or to go. And on Tuesdays, there's a taco special. They take cash, card or Zelle. They may take other payment plans, but I usually carry cash.

It genuinely felt worth the money. But over the past year, things have really changed. What used to cost about $27 for two after tax is now close to $40, and somehow the portions have gotten smaller. On top of that, the flavor just isn't the same. It doesn't taste as fresh or as well-balanced as it used to. The salsa especially used to have a real kick -- now it barely has any spice. And switching from limes to lemons completely changes the flavor profile in a way that just doesn't work for the dish. I'm honestly disappointed because I used to recommend Tocayo to everyone. I understand prices go up, but smaller portions and lower quality at a higher price is hard to justify. I really hope they bring back the freshness and bold flavor that made me love it in the first place.
