After the Montross brewery was closed we hardly stopped in Montross. Recently we discovered this brewery and we decided to try it. They have a decent patio, and great interior. Huge space for live music, karaoke and game room. The bar tender was very nice. We ordered flight of beer and wings, potstickers and fries for food. Everything was great. The service was excellent. The bar tender is very nice to talk to. Brings good energy. Recommend sitting at the table if you don't have a large party. Karaoke singers were great too. Decently crowded space. They're also opening an oil and vinegar shop next door and they let us check it out, their businesses are very clean and well decorated. The somewhat drab and unimpressive exterior will fool you: This place is one of the most fun and inviting places you'll ever set foot. I ended up getting the soft shell crab special which came with 3 small soft shell crabs and two sides. The Caesar salad was well dressed but was missing the salty umami flavor I come to expect with Caesar it almost tasted a bit bland but the romaine used was fresh and I appreciated the crunch/green it offered my meal, I don't think I'd recommend it being worth the upcharge and will probably try another side when returning. The fries are handcut and delicious, they also have old bay along with the typical salt & pepper on the table which when sprinkled on to the fries definitely take it up a notch. My crabs were phenomenal, perfectly fried and the butter sauce they provided with it was a delicious addition for dipping. My partner got a pulled pork sandwich and he shared that it was very good. It had a nice vinegar kick expected from Carolina BBQ. Our server Zachary was also extremely attentive and made sure we had our meals, waters were topped off and gave us any and all accoutrements we could need when asked. Overall, we had a great experience at Old Rapp Taphouse, we went on a Saturday night and found there to be a steady stream of people coming in and out but still received such great service and food. The tasting room is small but has amble seating. There was a piano in the tasting room and no one was at the tasting room when we entered. My daughter who is a beginner pianist, wanted to play. Since there were no signs on the piano that forbid people touching, she went ahead and played. Then an older gentleman came in and told us in a stern tone that the piano is not for playing. He was not friendly at all and even after we apologized and ordered a flight for sampling, he still was not engaging. I'm not sure if he is the brew master or just someone works for the campsite store, but he didn't seem too happy to be there. We had the 2 stouts, an Amber, and pilsner on tap for our flight. They were all just OK. We didn't want to order more because his attitude and the sense that we were not welcomed there... Which was too bad because it was a nice space with plenty of outdoor seating, a playground in the back for kids to play while parents enjoy some refreshing beer. We will most likely not go back again given the cold-shoulder treatment.

We each got a beer and split a classic pizza. I tried the Octoberfest beer and really enjoyed it. The pizza was pretty tasty. I especially liked the crispy crust.
