Once you arrive at this park, there are multiple trails to enjoy that will satisfy different hiking levels. Some of the trails at this park go into the mountains with some significant elevation. The hill canyon trail is a flat trail at this park. As it was a super-hot day, my hiking group and I took an easy, and we just did a 3.7 mile out and back trail that was quite easy and took under hour and 20 minutes to do at a causal pace. The trail followed the river, which I heard bass can be seen in the water. The trail was very pretty and relaxing. While on the trail you need to be alert. You may encounter mountain bikers zooming through the trails. Plus, you also get horseback riders in this area. On a hot sunny day you always need to be alert to snakes. At the trailhead there is a small parking lot. I heard on the weekends this parking lot gets super busy early in the morning. Not too far away there is a larger lot available. This park is worth a visit for beginner hikers as well as advance hiker. Bring plenty of water and hat as most of the area is not shaded! Happy trails!

This trail leads to lizard rock once you get to the top and continue on. If you keep going it will lead you to paradise falls . If you plan on going that far, plan to take a lunch and water and comfortable hiking shoes. Or take a walk across the bridge and down a pathway where you'll see the creek which is so peaceful .

Both tires went flat. I pulled all the thorns I could see then took the tires to Bill's. Mark fixed the tires and pulled out a lot more thorns I didn't catch. Mark and his crew have performed a number of full tune ups for me and the quality of work is professional and superb.

Years go by, I've gotten older, and that bike has been hanging in my garage for a long time. I decided it was time to revive that bike and use it in an indoor trainer. Fortunately, Bill's is still in business almost 20 years later (maybe more?), so I took it there again as the shifters were no longer working after years of hanging unused. The trail follows a creek that has a fair among of water and fish in it. I would not go in the water. This is a multi use trail where you will find hikers, runners and bikers. The Hills Canyon Trail is the gateway to many other trails such as Hawk Canyon and Western Plateau where you can cover greater miles with some elevation gain in the mountains. By connecting these trails, you can achieve over 5.0 miles. I would define the loop as easy to moderate with well-defined paths. The trail is quite wide in areas, so good to spot snakes. We saw a rattler on the Western Plateau portion. Along the river you should watch out for poison oak. Parking is free in a dirt lot. From the parking lot, enter the trail across the bridge. If you look down at the bridge you may spot the remains of a truck that went over- now explain that.

This also helps to breakup the flow of hikers as you get more privacy with more routes. Satwiwa is great for beginners and intermediate hikers. There are plenty of pathways with low incline and even walkways. But if your feeling more adventuresome there were paths a little more rocky and the farther you go we could see major inclines. This hiking area appeared both bike and dog friendly. Not a lot of doggies when we came today but a few. Didn't see many dog walkway trashcans but the routes were clean and picked up after. We saw a lot of cyclists. Thankfully the major pathways are big enough for you to walk safely to the side and for people to ride down the middle on their bikes. I felt safe as you could see miles ahead and the walkways were busy (not crowded) but I never felt isolated. So if you like a more private trail maybe not for you but it was comfortable and I still felt out in nature. Beautiful sights of the hills and flowers, fresh air, and loads of walkways to travel. So glad my friend helped me find this spot and I can't wait to add this area to my regular weekend walks.

Parking was easy and from the…read moreparking lot and back it was an easy 2mi hike, mostly flat and straight with signages along the way, the last .4mi was steep though but still very manageable. Best to come in for the sunset (but people do start coming in at around 530pm-sh so can get crowded during this time). Zero shade along the way so be prepared with sunscreen and water! The trail is a little bit unkept probably due to covid (heard they closed down for a bit). But as of 07/27 all trails and parking lot are all open (even Paradise Falls).

The path to Lizard Rock from Overloop is pretty technical on the way down and some tight turns on the incline toward Lizard Rock. Lizard rock itself was fine with but with some tight switch backs. Had a 10 year old mountain bike that had been sitting in the garage collecting dust for the past 5…read moreyears. Shift cables were so stiff I could not change gears. Called 805 Mobile Bike repair and he was available the next day. Because he is in Somis and I live close I opted to just drop my bike off there. He had it repaired the following day. He charged $110 for new cables and everything adjusted correctly. Very happy and am riding several times each week now. Thank you 805 MB repair.
