What a great shop! I discovered Bill's Bike Shop, a wonderful neighborhood bike shop, in 2006 when I first moved to Camarillo, and was riding my KHS Flite 500 steel frame regularly on the road. Years go by, I've gotten older, and that bike has been hanging in my garage for a long time. I decided it was time to revive that bike and use it in an indoor trainer. Fortunately, Bill's is still in business almost 20 years later (maybe more?), so I took it there again as the shifters were no longer working after years of hanging unused. JAM knew exactly what to do, provided amazing customer service, and had the bike ready for me in less than a week at a reasonable rate for both parts and labor. I bought a Specialized Bike from Mark the owner two yeas ago. I paid 3K for it and another $300 on accessories. He informed me there would be a life time of adjustments on the bike. I wanted to buy in my neighborhood also to support local businesses. I trusted he would provide great customer service. Today I went in with my bike as it has a blinking red and blue lights on the battery controls. The employee in the store was a young man with dark hair and a beard. He said it needs a CR 1630 round battery (costs $2) and said he'll replace for $20. The owner was not there. I told him what I spent and informed him what Mark told me and it didn't matter. I later called the store and talked to Mark. He said sorry you aren't happy and left it like that. He didn't care about customer service. After spending all that money and never going in after 2 years I am very disappointed in the Customer Service. That's why I bought the bike locally. We all like to be treated fairly with kindness so for or a $2 battery he just lost a customer. read more

Like many people I purchased some bike parts online and said to myself "yeah I can do that." Needless to say, I couldn't. I was up late Friday night trying to adjust my front and rear derailleurs to get ready for a ride Saturday afternoon. Saturday morning I gave up and called Bills bike shop as soon as they opened. They told me to come by and they'd take a look. After a Quick Look they said the bike would be ready in an hour and I could by around lunch to pick it up. About an hour later they called me up and let me know the bike was ready. I was super impressed with the quick turnaround time and quality of work. They did let me know a part of my issue was the low quality shifters on the bike which I hadn't even considered because I bought the bike second hand. Turns out they are in fact some cheap Amazon shifters. I ordered some new and proper ones and I'm glad to say I know I can come here and get them installed. Correctly! I'd also like to note that when I installed my own chain I pushed the pin too far through and the chain likely wouldn't have held up under much load at all. They happened to notice it and replaced the link, saving me a flight over the handlebars. I'll be the first to admit that I'm definitely not a bike mechanic, but these guys are and I couldn't recommend this shop more! I called in to get a price to cut a brake line, re attach and then bleed the line. I installed the caliper, and brake handle myself, and everything worked great prior to bringing in the bike. The hydraulic line just had to be cut, re attached, and bleed. I was very precise with all the information over the phone when I talked to The Owner Mark. Upon picking up my bike I was told that my price was higher than the quoted price I received over the phone. They did not call me to ask me about the higher charge prior to me showing up to pick up my bike. This has now happened the last 3 times that they have worked on my bike. I've always enjoyed my conversations with Mark the owner, but will now go elsewhere when ever I need to performed on my bike. Second time I get attitude from the owner Mark: First my derailleur was not working properly after changing the entire drivetrain (not cheap), he literally yelled at me! Now I have an issue with a tool that is defective and he is just plain rude. I will not be spending my money there anymore. read more

purchased two e- Bikes on Amazon. Derailleurs were not working properly. Took both bikes in for derailleur adjustment. On the phone was told $20 each bike. Apparently the derailleur guards were pushed in from shipping. Was told that prior to them starting any work, we said we could pull it out before they start, was told no you won't. OK Tech used a crescent wrench for leverage and pulled it away from derailleur. 5 second job. The $40 job turned into a $70 job which literally took less than 15 minutes to adjust. Not happy with the cost of a few minute job. The younger tech with the long hair was not very friendly must have been having a bad day. I will never use this establishment again. I believe because bikes were not purchased through that shop they up charged me. read more

I've been riding my bike all my life. I am 78 now and still ride one to two hours five days a week. I take my bike to Bill's for fast personalize service so I don't miss time on my bike. I like that for no extra charge I can call to reserve a day to have my bike in for service and not being without my bike during the busy times at their shop. And,... it's always refreshing seeing the happy faces and good nature of Mark, Joe, Trend, and Big Joe. All bike riders and former racers with kids of their own and who know their stuff. These guys are great and a total gem in Camarillo. They helped with my Bob stroller and fixed the tire. Pricing was super reasonable and didn't need an appointment. They have a good selection of bikes as well and seem very knowledgeable in all things bikes and tires. Great customer service and love seeing small businesses still open in this town. Man is this place a good find. I just needed brackets for my bike shoes, for spin class. I am not even a serious bicyclist. People in my class recommended this place, and I walked in and was greeted warmly. They knew exactly what I needed, installed it for me and couldn't have been friendlier. I had a good experience getting my wheel serviced here. They seemed knowledgeable with quick turnaround times (and they met their commitments). I really appreciated the flexibility in exploring different ways to get my bike back on the road. The only (but major) concern that I have is regarding COVID. There's a paper sign on the door that says "masks required at all times", but both times I was in the store, I was the only one wearing a mask. The employees don't wear masks; the other patrons don't wear masks. I'm all about supporting my LBS, but I'm not into supporting businesses that don't take the pandemic seriously. read more

Beware of Owner -- Dishonest (Rabid) Business Man I should have known better than to return to this shop after a previous incident in the summer of 2021 when mountain bikes were in short supply. There had a been a used Canondale Quick 4 Bicycle there priced at 450.00. I had tested it before but wasn't convinced it was the right size. Anyway, after about a week of researching and looking at bikes I called them up and spoke to the owner, Mark, and I told him I would be right up to purchase that bike. All was well, until I got there. He wheeled the bike up and then said, "That will be 700.00." Of course I left. Anyway, ten months later, my new bike needed a derailleur adjustment. Two weeks ago, I brought it back to this shop to have the technician repair adjust that. 10.00 and it was spot on. I rode it one time in those two weeks. Now, the bike did have a slight issue with the freewheel body that caused a very minor thing to occur with the cassette. I tried to repair that myself with a cassette tool. When I did that (took of the rear wheel) I presume that must have loosened something that caused a slight amount of play in the rear wheel. So I called them up, and asked to speak to that technician. Well, he moved. So I made the mistake of trusting Mark again. (As of now, I have concluded that Mark is a total hothead. I actually think this guy is among the caliber of business owners who actually held it against me for purchasing a bike elsewhere. As if he was somehow entitled to a sale, even after the price gouging incident, More on the hotheaded unprofessionalism later. I should have known never to return here, but the Newbury Park Bike Shop in Camarillo is closed Monday and Tuesday. Ask for Roman there.) Anyway, Mark assured me it was a simple fix to adjust the bearings and I asked if he could again dial in the derailleur, because when I took the wheel off to try to tighten the cassette, I had thrown the shifting off. He said sure, 25.00. I think that much work might have taken no more than 20-30 minutes tops for most good bicycle repair technicians, but he told me I would have to come back. I think it's because he didn't want me to see just how much time it actually would take, so he could charge more. He may have been in the middle of a repair, I just know I was the only customer there. But I said sure and left. Anyway, I got the call 4-1/2 hours later. I walked back, paid the bill, and then rode the bike. He HAD fixed the issue with the wheel bearings, however this time, the Shimano Deore 1x11 Drivetrain was ghost shifting all over the place. That bike ghost shifted maybe 20 times in the 10 months that I had had it before then, and all of the sudden, it was doing that, both up and down, probably 80-100 times in the short ride I did. And the chain came off twice. (I had been easy on it riding it home in sandals. But when I took it out for a workout ride in shoes and applying torque, it did that like crazy. The bike became somewhat of a danger to ride.) So I took it back. I calmed myself and explained the issue. I told him that it had never done anything like this before. Would you please make the derailleur adjustments necessary to fix that? (I have seen videos on this and there are a few 4mm allen bolts that need to be set, as well as tension for the cable. It's not surgery, but this was by far more than I had invested in a bike and I wanted to ensure an expert did that.) Well, what happened next was that he basically tried to gaslight into the possibility of buying a new drivetrain, cassette, and chain. (That drivetrain alone is nearly 300.00. When it started skipping all over the place, I wondered if he might have swapped my new one out for an older defective one he might have had lying around. Not saying he did, just a thought.) Anyway, Mark became unreasonable and aggressively loud and obnoxious. He took my bike off the stand and slammed it to the ground, saying, "You know what. If you don't like the way I do things take your bike somewhere else. You're CHEAP!" I told him, "I would appreciate it if you would respect my property. I paid you 25.00 to REPAIR my bike (minor adjustments for professional) not to ruin the drivetrain--now it is by far worse that when I rode it up here." It was a night and day change to how the bike rode. It always shifted perfectly before I took it to him, and after the REPAIR, it shifted on its on all over the place. He was CLEARLY lying about the parts it supposedly would need, since it never had any of those significant shifting problems before I took it to him. I just hope he didn't do anything that a competent technician and reasonable person can't fix. read more

These negative review people are clowns trying to nickel and dime the LBS. mark m's review literally states that his drive train skipped before he brought it in. And to accuse mark of swapping parts? Lol. Mark only helps people get on the road not off it. If there is one shop in Ventura county that will try to get you going at the best price its Bills Bikes. I dropped off a bike for a tune up and was super excited to ride it when it was done. When I took it home and jumped on the bike I wasn't able to go anywhere. It looks like the chain wasn't attached. My husband explained that maybe we somehow detached the chain. We reattached the chain, went for a ride, & noise started coming from the bike shortly after. Not sure what happened :( read more

UPDATE: I started riding my bike and my gears are not shifting correctly. I called and they said my bike was too old. Took it to a different shop and I was told whoever adjusted my gears did it wrong. My bike is now perfectly functioning! ORIGINAL I bought a used bike online and went to get a tune up from Bill's bike shop. I was told itd be $60. I came in to pick it up today and they rang me up for $90! I was really confused and they told me they took it upon themselves to repair thing I hadn't asked for..... I was very upset that I didnt get a warning or call that I was to be charged more. I waited for the owner to come in and it was obvious he does this regularly because he immediately gave me my money back and showed no signs of feeling bad for the mistake. He was super dismissive as if I was in the wrong here. This is very shady buisness practice. I basically paid $60 for a minor brake repair. Very disappointed in this shop. I've also read other reviews of people being overcharged, so it's a common thing for these people. Will definitely be going to NP bike shop from now on. read more

I took it to a different bike shop before for a tune up and needless to say, the other bike shop (won't drop names) did not fix my bike and told me some conflicting information on why my bike was the way it was...anyways like I mentioned, I took my bike to bill's on a whim and let them know the deal and they said they could fix it and they did! Was treated very nicely and got my bike back the same day! Definitely will be going there from now on and will recommend them to all. 2nd time coming in, first time I brought my sons bike in because his brakes were catching. I regret not getting the name of the lady that helped me that day but she was really nice. They fixed it and sent me on my way, we'll this time I had to bring in my sons bike because it got ran over and bent out of shape in some areas, the gentleman in the back told me which parts of the bike to order and told me to bring it back and he would take care of it. It's not so much what he told but how, very kind way of going about things. I appreciate that sort of thing.
