Hidden in the hills of Pleasanton surrounded by huge houses and horse ranches. This course simply didn't disappoint. Lot of elevation changes but the course is right in front of you. Score well on the front because the back nine gets tighter. Good shots are rewarded and bad shots well, don't hit those. I'm a walker but would recommend a cart. read more

** This review is for the Event Space & In-House Catering ** After much difficulty we found this rental space for our 4 yo birthday. A spacious site that accommodates about 120 was an ideal setup for our party of 75. Charissa, the food & beverages manager, was very understanding and accommodating with our requests (as my better half is very particular about her choice). I'd like to review based on various aspects of the arrangement. Booking Appointments: Charissa was who we contacted during our lookout for a event space and during our first meet she made the whole meeting comfortable by answering lotta questions and also by being open to requests right off. Although this place gets busy for event space the winter timeframe helped us with an open slot. We knew at the first look that this was the space we wanted but it was a matter of arriving at a good deal. The moment the space was confirmed we let her know wat we had in mind in terms of the arrangement, the layout we thought of (since this was a Bollywood Dance Party) and Charissa threw in her ideas as well which made the event a glorious evening. Event Space: We setup a dance floor that covered the open entry way (No doors or drapes to this entry way) and let the guests enter through the restaurant entrance. Since this was in the evening there were no guests at the restaurant itself which worked in our favor. The heating system (plenty of ceiling heaters, at least 10 of them) within the space can really get warm, so nothing to worry about with the entrance being open. In fact, jus before bringing the cake, we had to turn the heaters out to keep the cake from melting. We shut the bar window and placed the projector screen there for the kids to view the video and dance to. Catering: Although we went in with the idea of catering from elsewhere, we could strike a good deal only if we catered with Callippe, hence we went with them. And it turned out to be a good option we picked. The catering was organized unlike most other birthday parties we have attended so far, cos its only CHAOS with a bunch of 4 yo's running around. Since it was kids event, we wanted kid-friendly snacks and food such as Fruits, Cheese & Crackers, Cheese-stix & Pasta being some of the main orders. ** Fruit Platter was plenty and good to get started as the guests arrived in the evening. ** Cheese & Crackers - plenty of options in the cheese platter to choose from. ** Cheese-Stix - I guess this was a sure hit among the kids, with Marinara dips the kids could munch quickly and hit the dance floor where the event was centered towards. ** Pasta, as Entree, was exactly wat the guests wanted to have to keep complete the plate. The pasta was well-done, tender and Alfredo sauce was rich to give that taste buds wanting with each bite. Very impressed. ** Caesar Salad, was just rightly dressed. The staff attending that night were very courteous and were attentive to all our needs. We planned the timing of appetizers and dinner beforehand, and it was served on time and food was warm all throughout. They also helped us setup the S'mores bar, which was a big hit among the kids. Bar: With the bar open just outside the event space gave the grown-ups an option to divert their attention a bit from the tiny tots. Since this was an event after dark, the crowd did not have the option to experience the view which is priceless. Overlooking the golf course and the hills being the perfect backdrop. Most guests commented well on the drive upto this secluded venue, which was ideal for a Bollywood Dance night, with loud music. In all, I guess the event space is ideal for a party ranging between 70 - 130 heads. It was a special evening for us and could not have been achieved without Callippe. read more

My friend booked a party here on a really hot day. The event was in the covered patio area with doors opened with beautiful views. Nice breezes helped keep the heat away. The layout of the table, buffet, drinks and desserts was wonderfully done. The buffet food was outstanding as were the staff and the coordinator who handled everything. Their 10-18 is definitely a lot harder than 1-9. I had to play the second half first because of some logistics. It's a beautiful golf course and really well maintained. The green was of some challenges! It can be fast, uneven, and unable to read at the same time. Also there are quite few hazards (creek without H2O so you can probably always find your balls if you hit there) to be mindful of. Overall, I thought it was a good golf course. read more

I've played Callippe about half a dozen times now and each time it was a great experience. The course was always well maintained and the staff had great attitudes. I think the only complaint I could make was the Starter. I don't believe there has been a time when the Starter was responsive to questions about how the course was playing. Most of the time we just got a comment about keeping the pace of play. 15 handi capper and played from the Blues: Range: Standard range with flag pole targets. Can use all clubs. There's two putting greens, one by the range and one by the first tee. The putting green near the 1st tee has a massive slope. A great place to start the drinking games before you start your round. =) Tee box: Have always been pretty flat. There was one time where they were pretty chewed up but found out that there was a big tourney the day before. Fairways: A good mix of tight and wide fairways. Usually pretty firm but there are some soft spots especially after a good rain. Bunkers: Nice fluffy sand. So make sure you take some sand when hitting out of them. Rough: Not too difficult to hit out of. But can get think in some areas. It's definitely better to be in this rough than in the high grass on this course. Greens: Most of the time they roll pretty true. There are some hidden breaks but the one problem on these greens is that I find a lot of people do not fix their ball marks. I remembering fixing at least 10 ball marks one time b/c they were all potentially on my line. Misc: Cart girl has the usual amenities. Pro shop can help complete your bag if necessary. And 19th hole food is better than decent. Some tips for the first timers: Hole 1: Don't challenge the bunkers on the left unless you can carry 250 from the blue tees. Plays downhill so you could just line drive a 3-wood right of the bunker and let the ball roll down for a short iron in. Hole 2: Layup right of the left fairway bunkers. Hole 5: somewhat of a blind shot. Safe play is to lay up a 220 yard shot to the fairway you can see. I you can fade the ball, you could start it over the wasteland area on the left. But you really risk hitting too far right with the Big Dog. That leave a blind shot to the green if you do. Hole 8: Bunkers galore! Big hitters can challenge the bunkers and have a wedge in. Safer to lay up with a wood over the left side of the right fairway bunkers. Hole 10: Downhill fairway shot. Leave the Big Dog in the bag and punch a long iron or a wood and watch it roll. Hole 14: Can't see the green here. hit a 220 yard shot straight away . Hole 15: Bombs away! Fade your driver. Aim towards the left fairway bunker. Your ball will roll left to right. Great opp to get home in 2 if you can hit a very small green with H2O on the left. read more

Easily one of the best public golf courses in Northern California. Callippe Preserve is a breath of fresh air to play. The layout of the course is challenging without being too frustrating. The first few holes of the course are pretty straightforward and open to allow players to get their game going. There are a number of finesse holes that don't require driver off the tee, but demand more accuracy, as well. The par 5 18th is a terrific finishing hole, a long par 5 crossing the same creek twice at different points. The conditions here are really good for a public course. It isn't completely immaculate, but it shouldn't be expected to be either. The greens roll pretty true. One fairway was pretty wet when I played, but it wasn't a huge deal. There's also GPS in the carts, which is awesome. However it also seems like a very walkable course for people who prefer to do that. I would highly recommend this course to just about anyone. The twilight prices are very solid for what you get here and it's a beautiful course. read more

It's been a few years since our last round. Our round was played on a cold and cloudy day in December. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. The course was in above average shape and the greens were pretty quick. I was pleased to see that the conditions were similar to how I remember from a few years ago. The front and back nines play differently so it's fun. It's a nice course with variety and unique challenges. For me, the green fee is a little steep for my liking, otherwise I would play here more often. read more

First time playing here, I really enjoyed the layout of the course. It has little bit of everything. I can understand that some long knockers might not appreciate this course design because from the blues, its only about 6400 yards, so for first time players at the course, it seems like your getting penalized for good shots. I suggest take the time and utilize the Sky Caddie. This thing is amazing, it's basically a GPS for the golf course. I'll come back and try them for twilight. I bet it will play tougher because of the wind. read more

IMHO this is one of the better public courses in the bay area. Great location and course conditioning for a very reasonable price compared to other tracks. The staff is very friendly and professional, pace of play is typically good. Getting a tee time can be a challenge if you are looking at short notice. The only thing I don't like about this course is the 18th hole. Kind of a silly layout with multiple forced carries, but to be fair that is probably cause I have only par'd it twice and fed the environmental area Pro-V1's many more times. I went there for the first time on Sunday and thought the layout was pretty nice. It cost us $52 for our green fee and that included our cart. Not too bad for the Bay Area. However, we were told that there was a 1 hour frost delay....Ugh! That put our tee time at 1:15pm and we knew we wouldn't be able to finish 18 holes in that amount of time. The problem was we had driven over an hour to get to the course so we had no other option than to wait it out. The first person in the clubhouse was unapologetic and could have cared less about our dilemma. We hung around as foursome after foursome embarked on the course. Some walking and others riding. What would have been nice is if the clubhouse would have discounted carts to allow everyone to ride and help make up for lost time due to the frost delay. Thankfully we made it through 15 holes before it got dark and we had a good time but I will not be going back anytime soon. I would rather pay extra to play at Cinnabar or The Ranch. Cart and GPS were awesome though and the greens were very challenging. read more

Tried this beautiful track from a review recommendation read on the Bridges Golf Course rewiew section. It told the reader to try Callippe Preserve for some unbelievable golf at a great price. Booked a noon tee time on a Friday and finished at 6:00 pm. They pack the tee times so close together that by the 3rd hole, there were 12 people, yes, 3 groups at the tee together waiting for the green to clear. The course is beautiful and well cared for. A little soggy, the ball just stops dead. It does play fair, but to play a round in 6 hours on a weekday, waiting for the groups in front on every shot is close to watching paint dry, but costs a bit more. A ranger came by once on the back nine for the first time, but told us is was wall to wall the whole way around with no gaps. I would like to see management spread out the tee time a bit more. This is a great course with some fantastic golf, but you may not want to go back a second time if it takes 6 hours to play. read more

This is a tough one to rate. I've played there in conditions I would rate it 4 stars. But, the last couple times I've been there a two star rating is generous. Callippe charges a premium rate. But, I have found that they don't provide a premium golf experience. They don't control the pace of play and the conditions can be sketchy. - Pace of play: Terrible. Last round I left after my 2.5 hour front nine when I saw the 4 group backup on #10. That was an expensive nine holes. The round prior to that one, there were 5 groups backed up at the turn. - Conditions: In general conditions are good. But, the greens are patchworks of bentgrass and poa annua. They are struggling with the poa annua invasion, and I gather that they are limited in their chemical arsenal to control it. But, in any case, the effect for the golfer is not good. read more

Played here on 3/29/13. I was pretty disappointed with the greens and playability of the course. As others have mentioned, the greens are in pretty bad shape right now. When I played them they were also ROCK hard. Flops shots from 50 yards out that landed 5-10ft before the pin were running off the green. Sucks to hit a perfect shot and end up in the rough. Most holes don't give you the option to run the ball up either - so you're kinda stuck...bad design. The main problem is the goofy greens themselves. There is hardly a flat spot on any of them, and they seem to have slopes and tiers just for the sake of it. No thought was put into how these greens would play. Tricked-up greens are not fun and really reduce the strategy. Nearly every hole was cut on a big slope - good luck putting downhill on these holes. This course would be infinitely better if they flatted out every green. Even the practice green is ridiculous. The slop sends all balls back down to the bottom corner of the green. Its a good indicator of what to expect The whole course seems to suffer from the same problem. Its fairly nice to look at, but when you get out and play it you see all the flaws. Its really frustrating to hit the fairway with a draw and somehow manage to be OB. Theres hardly anything besides fairway or "sensitive area" where you're not permitted to enter. Also, as other have mentioned the pace of play stinks. It may be worth playing when the greens are soft, but otherwise they're so gimmicky that the course almost becomes unplayable. read more

I had my wedding and reception here in August and it was almost perfect. I had a guest count of about 90 people but this place could sit up to around 150 comfortably with a dance floor. I was planning my wedding from over 2000 miles away and the staff (Claudia) was friendly and made things very easy for me throughout the entire planning process. There was no need to hire a coordinator. They were always available to answer any questions I had. If I couldn't reach her on the phone, she was sure to answer my emails within a day. The food was good -I got no complaints. The scenery with the hills was absolutely breathtaking. I was a little leery of the reception area when I saw it during the rehearsal the day before but on the day of the wedding, it transformed into awesomeness. I highly recommend this place for weddings and events. My only complaints are (1) There is not a big dressing area for the bride and it is combined with the public bathroom so there were regular patrons going in and out of the bathroom while I was dressing; (2) Wedding started a little late because of my missing bouquet but I felt the staff was rushing me throughout the night to stick to the timeline therefore I didn't get to go out on the course to take pictures. read more

Best golf course in the East Bay by far. Love this course! Challenging but fair. Always in awesome condition. Great guys in the golf club. More importantly, this place has really great people that work there; from the guys who bring the carts to the seasoned starters to the restaurant staff and , especially, the guys in the pro shop (JD, Michael, Kyle, etc.). the price is way out of line to walk on a sunday is $ 68.00 dollars that way to much thats all i have to say about that so I cant recommend this course to most people unless you just got to play that day there are more affordable courses not to far away so thats why the 2 stars and I wont play any course thats charging $68 dollars to walk at 10am read more

I bought my dad a gift card for Christmas (which he shared and took me with him) and we finally used it a couple weeks ago. We weren't expecting too much, given some of the negative reviews and his own experience years ago when he didn't remember loving it too much. However, he admits he was wrong. We had so much fun on this course! He has a very long extension contraption so we could try to get a few of our balls when they went out of bounds but we didn't really hit that many out there. I thought it was going to be so tricky but I only lost one ball, technically. The brush is easy enough to avoid if you are conservative, and I'm not a great golfer. I get maybe one par per game. The golf sherriffs were really nice and I like that they don't make you go 90 degrees in your cart, like Marina does. We didn't find the two grass type greens to be any different from other greens. Our ball did exactly as we putted. It was a beautiful and very interesting course to play. We had a great time out there!! Pops even said to get him another next Christmas, but with more money on it. ha ha read more

My husband made a reservation for Mothers Day Brunch here and it was terrible. The temperature was 55F outside and they set the brunch in there outdoor room. We froze our butts off and due to a big open wall and windows, it was windy. They did have ceiling heaters but if your table was not directly under it, you felt NO warmth. The food was cold and they kept running out of plates for people to use. The food also kept running out and not replenished very fast. The wait staff was slow and not at all helpful. We will NEVER attend a brunch there again. read more

I m only 12 and I just started golf a year ago but I gotta admit im pretty good. It was kinda hot when I went there but nice. On the 16th hole.of course being a man playing from the white tees, I hit my 4 iron and got the ball 2 inches from the hole! When I finished I went to the "restraunt" and waited for my friends dad. While we were waiting the marshall came up and ask how we did. So I told him about hole 16 and he asked me if I was nathan so I said ya and he gave me a "shot of the day" ticket and I got to use it to get free garlic fries within 90 days so I was so happy! If only I lived closer to this place, I would golf here regularly! It is an expensive course, but you can find great afternoon deals and deals on golfnow.com that make it totally worth playing here. The course is always in great condition and course won;t bore you. It is in Pleasanton, so it does get hot in the summer. I've played here a few times (weekends included) and I've never had a major problem with backups. As is the case at most great courses, the service and staff here are also super courteous. read more

I've played Callippe 4 times now and each time, I am very impressed at how well kept the course is. The layout is challenging but fair. The greens are huge but really challenge you as they have severe breaks. The only thing that keeps them from getting my fifth star is that the last few times I have gone, the greens were either slow or fast. It appeared that the grass was a bit long and they rolled them anyway. Don't get me wrong. They are MUCH faster and truer than any other muni I have played. It's just a bummer they don't match the rest of the course. On one green, the ball races past the hole but on the next, it stops while rolling downhill. Maybe it's the winter leftovers so I have my fingers crossed they will get better. Definitely a must play if you haven't been there though. read more

It's been a few years since I played here the first time. It was summer and unpleasantly HOT. We came back this week, and it was beautiful weather, perfect. The course was in awesome condition! Everyone was friendly, and it was so open that we did not catch up to the foursome in front of us until the 16th hole. This course is great to play during the winter/spring/fall. I would avoid it in summer, it's always 10+ degrees hotter than the south bay. Oh, and bring a lot of balls. Most of the hazards are keep out even if you can see your ball. read more

I have helped coordinate two high school banquets in the last 6 months at Callippe and love working with Charissa and her staff. She and her staff are wonderful to work with and the food is outstanding, there is always plenty and it the menu is very affordable. The staff is helpful and accommodating in every way. This is a review for The View Restaurant only..... My hubby and son brought me here yesterday for their Mother's Day brunch, and we really enjoyed it. It was served buffet style with Prime rib, ham, omelet bar and the other less exciting usual suspects. What made it so nice was the VIEW, endless mimosas and wonderful staff. It's open air reminiscent of Hawaii and the day was beautiful! We leisurelly enjoyed critiquing the gofers, sipping our drinks and listening to the musical duo playing guitar, sax, flute and clarinet in the background.... My only suggestion might be that they could add a couple of other items of substance to the buffet, like shrimp,etc. as it wasn't cheap. read more

Extremely slow round today 5 1/2 hours. The front nine is not that great, but the back nine has several excellent holes that are very memorable. You will hear a lot of "fores!!" on the front as its built on too small a plot and holes are too close together. They need to hire some marshalls and get people playing faster. I was appalled at the almost 3 hr front nine and the only thing the starter said was "there are too many people on the course". I would give it 4 1/2 stars for the golf course, but the pace of play dumped it to a 3. I would be afraid to go back to do this horrible problem. read more

A beautiful golf course, even though it is a little small. I'm a beginner golfer and haven't been on too many courses, so I can't be too technical about the course. But I have to say it's well kept with beautiful scenery around it. I saw 4 deers(3 of them foes) close by as we were playing. The drink cart service was really nice too! My first time drinking beer and playing golf at the same time. I had a great time here, this place rocks! read more

Very nice course, although I would say the green can be little bit better. The worse part was the ranger keep rushing us. One time he came told us we need to speed up when the group in front of us just left the green. It messed up our game for an hour. This is just ridiculous!! Then we were waiting on every hole for the group to finish in front us, and we don't see the ranger. read more

Wedding venue review- We just had a September wedding here for my daughter. My daughter was hoping for a winery wedding, but with 200 people expected budget was a concern and the more affordable wineries could not handle that many guests. We stumbled upon Callippe which gave my daughter the outdoor wedding with amazing views she dreamed of and within a budget I could afford. Claudia, Tiffany & their staff were wonderful to work with. They were so accommodating and helpful with the planning process & flexible in making sure my daughter's vision became a reality. They worked with us on a semi custom menu, for both dinner & cocktail hour and made sure that we had vegetarian options at dinner along with the chosen entrees as many of our guests did not eat meat. Callippe handled the set up for the ceremony, dinner, dancing, & cocktails. Tiffany had great attention to detail the day of our event & was Johnny-on-the-spot if we needed anything. I was blown away by the extra touches they put out using the "remnants" from our decor. The venue looked spectacular and my "left over decor" was put to good use decorating the buffet and other areas by the staff without any prompting from me. The food was great, the weather was perfect & the staff got high marks from my guests on food & service. The bartenders especially got high marks for fast, friendly service and great cocktails!!! Claudia even came up with signature drinks for the bride & groom that got rave reviews from my guests and we had one with alcohol & one without, best of all they were color coordinated to the wedding. The bridesmaids, groomsman, videorgapher and photographer were all thrilled that they got to drive golf carts on to the course to take photos...the guests thought that it was really fun to see the bride, groom & attendants traveling is style. Food- Service & other nuts & bolts stuff- The restrooms were clean & well stocked, patio heaters worked well, the sunshade could not be pulled down completley as some of them would have disturbed our table set up. This was because we had so many guests (200) and because we chose a non standad table set up, however the bride & I were made aware of this ahead of time so it was a non issue for us. The sun glare was only a problem for a very short period of time as the sun set quickly that evening; plus it was summer so my guests all had sun glasses...and the views were amazing so who would want to block those majestic views anyway?! By the way we even had a perfect sunset that evening & I am sure Callippe managed to arrange that also! The food was hot & tasty- cocktail hour we had a wonderful assortment of cheeses, crackers, super sweet fresh fruit, the best chicken wings, amazing stuffed mushrooms & a wonderful tomato-basil caprice. Dinner we opted for the mashed potatoes, ceaser salad, cranberry walnut salad, pesto pasta, tri-tip & chicken marsala. Everything was very good, but the chicken was especially flavorful and moist. Mashed potatoes & pasta received rave reviews & the rolls had everyone talking about how good they were...I didn't grab a roll but they were a big hit with our carb loving guests. I would defiantly do another wedding or even a corporate event here again- we were thrilled with the staff, the venue. All of the staff here went above & beyond for us- thank you to everyone at Callippe!!! read more

I'm a big fan of the newest course to the area, Callippe Preserve. Callippe is in fantastic shape and offers up a true challenge to golfers of various skill sets. They have a good range with real grass surfaces to hit off of - and a nice little club house. The course uses the creeks and other surrounding nature in the courses difficult (yet fair) layout. It is a little hilly, and an be narrow at times. read more

The course is in a nice topographic area. The greens were not in good condition. Almost every green had dead areas. Dirt. Pin placements were tough. Some hole high puts, if missed the ball would roll 10' back down. Plus we played a sub 4 hour round with no one behind us and the marshals were telling us to speed up. I would play there again though, maybe not in the fall. Plus it didn't seem that they roll the greens daily. read more
