I have been taking my girls here for about 8 years now. Joe and Taylor are amazing, along with everyone else that they hire. I have a Yorkie/Maltese (14 1/2) and a Maltese (4) that I take in every four weeks. I also had a Yorkie/Maltese that passed four years ago that went here for years as well. They area also always on time with your animals and they will let you know that instead of two hours (for my two small dogs) it will be two hours and fifteen minutes that day. When I show up, they are ready at that time. I have been to groomers that would keep my girls for FIVE hours or more, and just tell you they will call you when your animal is ready. That's just ridiculous. Both of my girls get excited when I tell them I am taking them to the groomers. They used to shake when they would first come out of the carrier, but that was just due to the strange scents and what not. Now they come out wagging their tails and crawl right to Taylor and Joe. I am constantly asked where I take my girls because their grooming is so good. I HIGHLY recommend Calming Nature. You won't be disappointed. Yes their prices have gone up, but they did not raise their prices for the longest time AND they are still cheaper than any place anyone I know takes their dogs.That is NOT a reason to give them a bad review. They also have their cancellation policy posted, they are a business and have people wanting appointments. If you cancel last minute, they can't fill that appointment. A lot of places do the same thing whether it be salons or doctor offices. Remember, if it's your first time there it might take a few times to get exactly what you want if you are picky about what you like. Joe is so great about listening to what you like, or what you don't like and will implement it for you. I have asked him to try something new just to see if I would like it and realized I did not in fact like it at all. It just ended with a "let's not do that again." I used to always bathe my dogs myself, but found it was too much on my back (and would take me down for a day or 2 with back pain afterwards), so I started taking them to professional groomers and then only giving quick baths in between appts. as needed. I have been taking my dogs to Calming Nature since I moved to town about 5 years ago. When I first moved here, I had 2 senior great pyrenees that Calming Nature took excellent care of. After they passed, I adopted another pyrenees rescue and a bernese mountain dog rescue that had a lot of fear issues. Neither had been professionally groomed before. The groomers were so patient and gentle with my dogs that all of them love going there now and they smell and feel so good after I pick them up! People are always commenting on how nice my dogs' coats are and how beautiful and well-cared for they are. The best groomer I've ever been too! My dog doesn't have to stay 4-5 hours because of over booking. This place is fast and they really care about your animals. Tayler is super nice and accommodating too the days and times I can bring my dog in. Been going there for over 4 years now and I won't go anywhere else. CANNOT say thank you enough for their patience with my very old man. He's 15 and has such a hard time with groomers in his old age. I love that they take 2 hours max and it is kennel free. That has been an enormous obstacle in us finding an appropriate groomer for my elderly boy. Pete came home happy and had no signs of anxiety after it was over. Initially I thought Natures Calming Pet Grooming in Yelm was an excellent choice for my pet Emotional Support Animal. This did not turn out to be the case in the least. Her first two visits went great! The third visit my ESA was cut twice, they never informed me prior to returning her to me. When I called I was dismissed and told it was a sort of razor burn. I returned to the groomers the next day showing them her wounds they gave me a spray repeating it was a razor burn and sent me on my way. A day passed and it was clear that this was more than a razor burn. She was constantly licking her wounds. At this point I called and requested to speak with the owner. We had a long conversation, I messaged him the pictures of my dog and he suggested she go to the vet. He said he would cover the bill. It was over Fourth of July weekend, I was unable to get her to the vet. As Rose's wounds were healing over the long weekend holiday, the spray seemed to be helping her heal, I opted out of the vet come Tuesday when they reopened. Contacting the owner once again explaining the situation, that I was not going to take my dog to the vet if I didn't need to. He said he would comp me two grooming visits for the trouble. A new appointment was made for the owner to groom her a few weeks later. My assistant and I went in and asked about Rose getting her nails painted, as I had discussed at the prior visit I wanted to have them done. The gal at the front desk said I don't have time to do nails today. I stated that would have been nice to know when I asked last time I was in and was inquiring about the nails. Next time maybe mention that to let folks know that a head of time. Slightly confused as I was under the impression the owner would be doing the groom, I asked if she would be the one to groom Rose. She said no, so I went on to explain how I wanted her trimmed, not as short to avoid her being cut again. She did get a bit rude at this point stating they didn't cut her. I stated I have pics and explained the situation and this is why my next two visits have been comped. Leaving my girl again, I was a little nervous but confident that I had made contact with the owner and that there would be no further problems. When I arrived to pick up my dog, the MINUTE we walked in the owner starts raising his voice to me about how I upset his employee. This is no small man, he could be quite intimidating. I tried numerous times to makes sense of what was going on, to no avail. Rose is an 8 lbs peached faced Yorkie. From across the counter the owner tossed my dog at me and said that I swore at his staff which I did not. Then he refused to groom my dog today! He then proceeded to handed me $50 and told me to leave. I tried to explain I never swear at his employee, I didn't use the word "bullshit" at all! I even asked my assistant & she confirmed that I did not. Mind you, he said bullshit in the office very loudly where other clients were. Then he got even louder and said "somethings wrong with your emotional/mental state" and told me to leave, baffled I did just that. After all of this I arrived home and noticed I missed his phone call. He left a nasty voicemail that included profanity on my machine claiming I had upset his staff and to come and pick up my dog immediately. Mind you as I left her for the appointment I could see the owner grooming another dog which was right next to the office. If he had thought I was so out of pocket in my behavior cussing out his employee then I would have thought he would've come to the front. There was absolutely no reason for me to cause a scene or cuss out the folks that I am trusting to groom my Emotional Support Animal again. I have never once in my 30 something years ever given a bad review. But after being accused of something that I did NOT do, being mortified & humiliated in front of others, I felt like people need to know about this. Wonderful experience with my large breed dog here. He's been having some ear issues and they were super accommodating to him and fitting us in. They made him smell great and look great. This place seemed so nice at first and did a fair job with grooming as well. The third time I called however they refused to serve me saying that I wasn't a match for their groomer style....what?? I've been taking my 4 dogs there for almost 3 years now and I cannot say enough good things about this place and the people that work there. My dogs are not well socialized but Joe has the magic touch with them. One of my dogs is very protective of me and acts aggressive when others are near me but we all thought of a way to combat that. Joe and Taylor are awesome! They know how to treat animals with patience, kindness, and love. They always accommodate my crazy, spur of the moment, schedule without a complaint. Just fyi to local folks whose dog may not have been exposed to children, or simply do not like children, this may not be the location for you. I know this place is under new management, and Sherry is no longer grooming here, but we have been taking my dog to this location for 8 years... My dog has not been exposed to children too much, except our daughter who is now 2...so, she barks and gets nervous when young busy children are around (mainly if they are running around). She doesn't bite, just barks and tries to hide from them. I brought my dog in to get groomed and there was a young boy there, who was being a little loud (just being a kiddo), but My dog began to bark and was scared. I said, just so you know she doesn't do too good with kids. I was told "too bad, he is there all the time." I expected more of, oh ok, we will make sure he isn't around her... or something along those lines. With that being said, I take my dog to be pampered and groomed. I don't want to cause her or anyone else extra stress. I have been going there 8 years and have not had this experience before. We will not be going back to this location.
