We rented a camper here for the week last year we did Arizona for a month for less money .Kind of dumpy some look like the are full time residents.And hauled everything they own and cramp it on to small lots .They park in street hard to get around .Think they have codes but very lax on them ,will not be back .Boats ,trailers ,many golf carts junk cars on and on .Shame some spots are clean and tidy. read more

We enjoyed our stay at Calusa very much. We just returned from a 2 week stay. Many of the negative reviews I've seen mention specific trailers/houses that they've stayed in and not for the campground overall. The place we stayed was nice, but this review is about the CAMPGROUND not the HOUSE. Pros: -Very nice pool with pretty view overlooking canal -Clean shower houses/laundry facilities -Security that really is security. They don't bother you over nonsense -Access to mangrove tunnels for kayaking -Nice playground for kids -Overall calm atmosphere. -Beautiful sunset views -Gulf side -Pet Friendly Cons: -No hot tub in pool area -Many broken lounge chairs at pool. -Showers need shelves for products -Parking can be difficult at times read more

Traveling full-time in a 38-foot coach we stayed 7-nights in a site (# 447) for big rigs. This was our first visit here. This park has mostly full-time residents/owners. No dog walk or dog park here, but plenty of room to walk your pet along the lane leading into the park. We had good AT&T phone service here, unfortunately no satellite reception due to a badly positioned palm tree. These are not the most quiet or private sites, but if getting to know your neighbors and group activities sound appealing, then this would be the place for you. read more

We loved our stay! We were pleasantly surprised after reading some of the yelp reviews that were not too positive. The grounds are incredibly clean and you can tell that they care about their maintenance. The laundry rooms, pool, sunset observation deck, dock, boatlaunch, all were immaculate. Walking through the park was enjoyable and there is an area with picnic tables to watch the sunset and net casters that was perfect. Yes, there are many owner/residents here but there are also snow birds as well as weekly stays. It was quiet during the week and even when the park filled up on the weekends, the "celebratory music" as the park calls it was not invasive. The residents we encountered were pleasant and very helpful. A previous review mentioned "monster trucks" good grief, I can only assume these folk were from cities where regular size pickups are a rarity, there was not a monster truck in sight, just full size pickups used to haul boats and jet skis. There is no feeling of "trailer park" as someone else phrased it, it is a campground with very well kept units. Another review mentioned "speeding golf carts", if you count 5 mph speeding.... we encountered many golf carts and they were not clipping along at a crazy pace..... I can see how it might be difficult to move a camper in as some of the roads through can be tight for a behemoth camper but that was the only negative we could envision. We would be happy to stay here again and enjoy all of the amenities offered. read more

The campground is not welled marked on US 1 so you would have a hard time finding it after dark. The site's are tight because they have a patio right in the middle of the site, but on the left hand side is where you can park your car. So you end up having to park on the right side which is very close to the next sites parking area. Also because of the many permanent residents getting in to the site is a little tricky especially in a larger rig. Unless you love Cuban music until all hours of the night, I would not recommend this place. The music was finally shut off at 1:00 am. The only thing this place has going for it is the pool. I don't see how they can call them selves an RV Resort when it is nothing more that a permanent residence for folks. Heck, they even have houses In the park. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

The security guard who was on duty when we arrived was very unpleasant and asked my husband to totally move our truck and camper even though we were not blocking anyone. She spoke very sharply to us which made for a poor first impression. We made a reservation over a month in advance and told them the size of our trailer and that it had slide outs on the drivers side. Our trailer is not exceptionally large and the slide outs add four feet to our width. When we were escorted to our site it wasn't large enough to fit our slide outs unless we parked on the concrete pad but they would not allow us to have even one wheel on the concrete pad. They did refund our money. The overall appearance of the campground was a bit run down. Many of the permanent sites just looked shabby. I was surprised as a friend of ours had been turned away because they had an old truck camper so I thought that meant they wanted only nice looking RVs. What a shame that they accept reservations that they won't accommodate or can't fit. Fortunately we found a very nice RV park nearby. read more

So far we've enjoyed our stay in this campground. We did not rent a unit. We came in our RV and got a water front site. The view is amazing. It was the weekend when we first arrived day after Christmas and there was loud music playing from several different campsites. After the weekend (weekday) it stopped when they left. The office staff and security are very nice. The campers have been friendly as well. We got a great lot to stay on which I think has helped our visit. Lot 322 which is currently for sale. This is a pleasant place to spend weekends being relaxed. We love coming here and use it as 'home base' to visit the other Keys (Islamorada, Marathon). There is a marina with a boat ramp that we use to launch our Kayak and Paddleboard. Water is shallow and clear once you leave the canal. There is a brand new swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts. Security is also good which is important these days... Some of the people that live there may be a little more than we'd like... so we just stay away. Safe Travels! read more

I just came back from a weekend at this campground and was absolutely appalled and disgusted at how unsanitary our trailer was. We had several problems throughout our stay including a non-functioning shower, no hot water, putrid smell in trailer, unsanitary bathroom, not hot water, etc. I may as well have been camping. Will never come back here again. I regret not taking photos. read more

This has been the worst Memorial Day weekend ever! Even before I arrived here there were issues. Made reservations more than 3 months ago, come to find out they gave my spot to some else. Then Ivan Chaves, who is the manager just lied all the time for everything. On top of that, you have to deal with the security guards who are rude. I spent 6 days without cable or internet (which were supposed to be included). Like I said one lie after another. Please do not spend your time or money here, you will regret it. Great place to spend a weekend or a long term. Neighbors are very friendly and always happy. The Marina and the ramp are great and have boat slips. The kids love it because they are free playing in the park and riding the bike. Love this place. read more

My family has had a place here for 20+ years The staff has always in my memory been incompetent and their purpose only seems to be to create a headache or inconvenient situation of your time. The rules on the campgrounds do not serve any means or purpose to proper logic, say for instance when I invite a friend, my friends vehicle is not allowed to park in this facility and we have to make double trips to unload all of our supplies that we have packed. They won't even let him pass by to drop off what is packed. My neighbor parks his car in front of my boat and the park allows it. There's is a congestion of boats in the grounds, accidents will happen as the streets are as narrow and the associations intelligence. There's is one boat ramp, just one so expect long lines and dings on your boat because they made sure to make the ramp extra small. After launching your boat have a good time not running into the nearby mangroves....wow guess the boat ramp engineer didn't see that coming. Overall the management and quality of life this area provides is shit, there's nothing private about this park. It's a Walmart parking lot with homes on it. Use your imagination. Save your money and invest in a area that provides the proper amenities. This place is a den of morons don't vacation here read more

I wish I had checked Yelp before booking my stay through home away. The fact that we had to wait for security to arrive to let us in because they were dealing with something in the park that warranted FOUR squad cars should have been a warning but by then it was too late. If you like Latin music blaring from 8 in the morning until 11 at night from various trailers, of course all different songs, then by all means stay here. The women who work in the office are wonderful but the over all experience has been so terrible we spent two nights with family and now we are actually leaving a day early afraid of what is going to happen here on New Years Eve. We will never come back there is no beach access and the pool that looks beautiful to look at is surrounded by yellow caution tape so no swimming allowed. If you do come make sure the unit you are renting has the view advertised. read more

My husband and I stopped in on our bicycles, and I asked at the check in desk if we could ride or walk through, because we were interested in making reservations. The woman clerk said that they do not allow anyone to enter the park unless they are staying there or are a guest. I stated that I like to see a park before reserving a week or more at a time. Her answer was a shoulder shrug and a too bad, we don't allow it. Then, two days later, our campsite neighbor at J. Pennecamp told us about how he rode through the area campgrounds. We questioned about Calusa, and he said the woman let him in to ride around no problem. Hmmmm. Shady, glad we found out and won't bother them with our patronage. read more

I personally love Calusa Camp Resort. I've been coming here on and off for about three years. Me and my family decided we liked it so much, we bought a lot and built a house. It's a fun place to spend your free time. People are very friendly, there is a lot of cuban music. But I enjoy all that. I love it. I would recommend this place to anyone 100%. Pool is great, showers and bathrooms are clean, you can dock your boat/jet skis. It's a very nice place. read more

My wife and I booked a stay here for five nights. Sites are tight especially for a 35' RV. I'd say that over 90% of the campground are owned sites or seasonal renters. very few casual campers. We had a terrible night with noise and LOUD music from the trailer behind us, who owned their site.. It went on well beyond the quiet hour curfew.. Security said they tried to talk to the owners a couple of times but the could do nothing, We could complain to the county police if we wanted. We called the police and logged a complaint. they told us a car is on it's way and they had 5 other complaints. The noise finally stopped. One night we wanted to see the sunset and wandered to an empty site that was on the water. A nearby site resident came out and started yelling at us that that was an owned site and we couldn't go on it. There were no signs that it was not a regular campsite and I said really...we just wanted to see the sunset. I will never go back here. I have been camping since 1970 and never have had an experience like this. One seasonal resident said this goes on all the time. the people that own sites feel the rules don't pertain to them. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Let me start by saying I never felt the need to review anything however after being victimized by the management at this park I want to warn others to stay away from these liars and crooks. I had booked my reservation months in advance and I traveled hours to the campground with a 40ft coach w/4 slides towing a motorcycle and car. Only to be subjected to 3 workers on a tugboat screaming over the engine and pounding in beams for construction on the seawall in front of my site. I complained to management for days and each time I was lied to saying they were done. Finally the manager told us in front of another office staff that she would refund our stay as she had no other sites that would accommodate us. We looked for other accommodations in the area and didn't find anything else so we decided to just stay the night and leave the next morning, a day early. That night at 4 minutes prior to the office closing we received a voicemail saying since we had not left the manager was not going to return any of our money! We tried calling back no answer and in the morning not only she wouldn't refund us for the days of abuse she even refused to credit for the day we were leaving early. Do not stay at the resort and ruin your vacation there are other reviews also complaining about management I wish I had listened. read more
