I give the food Perfect 10 the quality of seafood is a #10. I've tasted many dishes i like them all . Call ahead of time though like 20 min b4 to let them know to please turn on the AC. And for the refill they forget about drinks so tell them to bring u a pitcher. The Grouchy cook is a seafood chef ‍ from Mexico . If you come to eat something great you'll be satisfied. Best authentic mexican and seafood place. My cousin owns this place and everytime we visit its a must to stop by for lunch. The shrimp are so delicious and the flavor and seasoning of any item here always stands out . The restaurant is small feels homie , it has a small bar and everyone is super friendly. The authentic cuisine is excellent , the food is made to order , fresh everytime , most of the time by the owner (he works alot). The prices are great for the amount of food and quality you get. Over the several past years the quality of the food remains great. Most amazing meaty shrimp and the flavoring is standout. The scale of spicy used is 1-10. If you like spicy then 8 is perfect. I have tried several of their Shimp plates. Almonds, veggies, Diablo r(red hot sauce), there are so many varieties that sound great. For the first time I didn't finish all my Shimp. They don't skimp on the shrimp. They also have burgers and chicken plates for those in your company that fear seafood. ;) It is a hole in the wall but a great find. It has survived over the years and probably because the food remains good. The is a ~4 person bar if you want to stop by for snack and a beer. Still amazing! This time had the relleno, which is stuffed sea bass with shrimp and cheese and peppers and onions. Delectable and perfect. What I wrote before: Highly recommend. Stopped by this restaurant based on the Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. Family members ordered the shrimp scampi, the spicy shrimp fajitas, and the mixed seafood dish with octopus, shrimp, and fish in the house salsa. Went here on a Friday at 6 PM and were seated promptly. The wait staff were very friendly and helped us with recommendations since it was our first time. We got the Cameron Pelao, Cameron Poblano, and an order of the Ceviche Tostadas. Everything was EXCELLENT with a ton of flavor and texture in every bite. The Poblano is mild and very tasty while the Pelao was more spicy, maybe too much for some but just right for me. The Ceviche Tostadas were out-of-this-world good! There is plenty of salt in the food the serve, but not overly salty. So, if you're on a low salt diet, like I am, make this your one "free" meal for the week where you don't worry about sodium. Unbelievably good food, prompt and friendly (if not overly cheery) service, and the best tomato beer I have had anywhere - and I drink those pretty much everywhere I go. I don't know what the seasoning they use is, but it's amazing! The Camarones Cancun, and the Camarones Guatemala were two very different, and equally tasty dishes. But their ceviche is where they stand out. This stuff is amazing - it's a seafood dish where the fish and shrimp have been cured with citric acids instead of being cooked. It's absolutely incredible. Went for lunch and was the only one in there for the duration. The place is small and cozy. Chips were stale, beans were bland and the salsa was watery but good. Ordered the fish tacos which the fish lacked flavor but garnished well, no lime given. Coming from San Diego these tacos can't really compare but for the area they're decent. The biggest disappointment was the cleanliness. I had flies constantly landing on me and my food, as well as swatted flies on the windows that had yet to be wiped off. Makes me think how clean the kitchen is. I will give it another try based upon the other members good reviews on the food. After first time I would give it three stars but the sanitary conditions drop it down to two. read more

I eat all over California regularly and I love little cozy family spots but this was probably the worst one I've been too. The waitress was rude from the start, rolled her eyes every time we asked a question. The don't have flour enchiladas which means everything is pre made and not fresh. Chips were stale. One of our relatives had gone here and subsequently purchased a gift certificate at Restaurant.com. We were looking forward to eating here since it's a little different than the Mexican restaurants in the area. It's a shrimp and seafood place. The waitress said that the owner didn't take the gift certificates, which seemed odd because they are still selling them on restaurant.com (we looked today before we went). The food was four out of five stars. The house dish - Camaron Pelao, was a little spicy (we ordered "low") and very tasty. We also had fish and chips (pretty good), shrimp enchilada (very good), camaron al mojo de ajo (pretty good) and a quesadilla (okay). The background music was interesting - all instrumental and, as we listened more, violin covers of '70's pop hits like YMCA. Kind of fun, although I don't think that's what they have intended. There was no air conditioning in the restaurant, which makes a difference on a day like today (mid-90's even by 5 pm). We'd eat there again. read more

We have eaten here twice, it would have been more but they close early. Shrimp plates have been awesome! It is small and casual, I'm sure family owned. They have always been great at recommending what is good! With all the mexican restaurants around this IS one of the better ones we will frequent more often! I have been driving by Camoron Pelao for 4 months now and i finally stopped in today. The faculty is nice and welcoming and the chef, waiter, and cashier(all the same person) was really nice. The food was great. I ordered a shrimp burrito and my wife ordered shrimp fajitas. Both had a great traditional flavor and big portions for the price. They have free chips and salsa. The salsa was my only complaint. I wanted more than just a little 3 oz container, you know something you can fit a chip into. But all in all it was a great meal and a good time. Searching for something to eat before heading to the Atwater pumpkin patch and came across this place on yelp. This place is solid and I'll definitely be back. Food is more home made style. Had chicken tacos and partner had the sea bass. Sea bass had tons and tons of garlic and also dish taste fishy at all. Chicken tacos had good amounts of flavorful chicken chunks. The beans are a thinner type than a lot of restaurants but way more flavorful. Rice is fresh with herbs and carrots. Clean and quiet with friendly service. Some of the better Mexican food I've found in the Central valley. Will definitely drive the few minutes north of Merced to get back here. Also kid friendly. read more

My only hope was to avoid del Taco, Carls Jr, and the like. I stopped at the first restaurant I saw, the improbably named "Peel & Eat Shrimp." I don't have much to say about this little joint. Except that the Traditional Chicken Burrito that I ordered was flat out, hands up in the air, jump up and down screaming Halle-Freakin'-Lujah the best burrito I have ever eaten! Hot, fresh, and full of perfectly cooked beans and large pieces of tender chicken! I had no expectations walking in. But surpassing any conceivable expectations and surprising me with the Best Burrito Ever Award earns this giant little restaurant 5 Stars! read more

Enchiladas had mostly cheese, like 5 tiny pieces of grilled chicken inside each enchilada.
