Me and my family had dinner here recently and this place seems like a very popular spot. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a friendly face and was seated. It's not a very big restaurant, but when you walk in it seems there might be a private room immediately on the right side of entry, unless it's just a small area to the restrooms. Almost all the tables were taken, but these ladies hustled! As soon as we ordered the service was fast and they did not miss a beat. As soon as my son sipped his last drink, here comes the lady with another drink. I was so impressed with the service here. I watched other tables and she was on top of those tables too! The menu has so much to choose from that I didn't know what to get. I ended up getting a shrimp plate and I was sooo full that I didn't finish my food. They serve pretty good size portions here that I was anticipating eating all my food because I was hungry, but they came out with this big oval sized plate. I would love to come again. Service was amazing, it seems like a family owned business and they are super friendly and welcoming here. The service was so slow and we were the only ones there that day. In the couple of times I been there. The prices are high for the restaurant. Ordered a couple of the drinks and they were good. The food not so much. Ordered; the coconut shrimp so disappointing. 1/5 Bland Ceviche samplers 2/5. The wings were ok. 3/5 The best thing was the camarones ala plancha nothing out of the ordinary. I really wanted to like this place, but it was a little underwhelming. The Molcajete was pretty expensive for what it was. Molcajetes usually have big pieces of meat, but they were chopped up which was weird. The salsa itself was not spicy at all and had decent flavor. The space is pretty big, but I wish they had more TVs especially for the World Cup. I wanted to watch a game there, but it was pretty difficult. Went here around 9:30 on a week-night. Pleasantly surprised that it was open. The margarita was good but the fajitas were amazing! Both the chicken and steak had amazing flavor. Even the veggies were super good. There was just the right amount of char from the skillet. The chips and salsa were also very tasty. The staff was super attentive and friendly even when they were starting to get ready to close. We will be back here the next time we are in Merced. read more

Not a bad choice at all. We like going here. This place is, I guess an upscale Mexican restaurant.?. It's very clean, the employees wear a uniform, everything looks nice. Once seated they bring you chips, salsa and beans. How cool is it that? They bring beans! It's smart too because beans are cheap and you only get a little tiny portion of them. If you're a bean lover like me, you are going to mow through the first (free) bowl and ask for a refill, and that's where they get ya. It's $2 for a refill. Smart! Give out that first hit for free and then rake in refill money. The food is really good and large portions. This last visit I got the Burrito Mojado with grilled chicken, delicious. I can never finish half in one sitting. Definitely check this place out for some upscale Mexican dining. Except to spend $25+ a person. It's worth it, but not budget friendly. read more

Music was blaring loud so we couldn't hear each other without yelling - I asked about turning the music down and the service complied. Found this restaurant on Yelp while in Merced for a conference. Came in and the servers were so kind and friendly. They made sure to check in with us multiple times, got every thing we needed, and took care of our little one. We ordered chicken nuggets & fries, Machaca, and Chilaquiles. The food was yummy! The only reason I did not give full 5 stars is because service was a tad slower than usual and had to ask different individuals for refills and order dessert. I've gotten lunch here a few times but always to go. This time, we got dinner and sat in. We beat the dinner rush. We were seated fairly quickly and served with chips, salsa, and beans. Recently went to the new agave for the first time, service was ambiance was good. Food wasn't the greatest. I ordered enchiladas and the red sauce tasted like watered down mole sauce. Came here with a group of 4 total. No other table was being used, we were the only ones in the restaurant. Took 15 minutes to get us drinks. Another 30 minutes to get 4 plates of food. Today it is 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside, and my nephew wanted Mexican. So we drove to Agaves Mexican Grill. On a Sunday afternoon, we arrived at noon, and there were several open parking spaces close to the restaurant, which was great because it was lunchtime and there are several other restaurants located close in the area. We walked in and were seated right away. Unfortunately, it was so busy that it took them over 45 minutes before we were able to place our order, which was not really fun when we had a super hungry toddler and we were trying to keep him occupied. I ordered the five mini tacos with three of the tacos being carne Asada and two of the tacos being Al Pastor with all the toppings on the side so that my toddler can choose what he wants to eat. The tacos were OK because I ordered different animal meats. The tacos were not set at the combo price. They were set at the price of individual tacos. I would return only if I had to come back with family. I would choose giving this restaurant 3.5 stars but that's not an option so I'm giving four stars since my nephew liked it. read more

Everything was GREAT! We were greeted at door by concierge extraordinaire Alejandro. We sat on the patio and had exceptional service! Our waitress Milly I think her name is was amazing. So kind at all times. Never once an attitude when asked for anything. The food was delicious! I had the Ceviche plate and jalapeño poppers. Both delicious and fresh. Drinks were great too. My michelada was so tasty and authentic. The ambiance was great as we were there for my in laws birthday the crew came out and sang to him Mexican style, it was great! hi! visited this restaurant once before few years ago. visited recent a week ago. had lunch i ordered alacarte because it was a very warm day and i had a long drive back home... i asked for a side salad the waitress never mentioned my alacarte ' Relleno! came with a side salad n sliced orange. so although my lunch was good and only like to give honest positive reviews i have to be honest with customer service for a bit of improvement! next time i order lunch alacarte i would like to be told my Chile relleno comes with a salad versus a big side salad that costs just as much as my "1" relleno i would have ordered the plate for the total cost. i didn't eat my side salad took it to go! lots of waitresses and friendly service but as much attn to our table i would of preferred less interruption while eating and more efficient communication with the order taker abt what items on menu come with. clean restaurant fast service and relleno was good it's a favorite of mine and i like to try at different places. sauce was similar to enchilada sauce. tasty but not the usual sauce on top of relleno that we have in my city. thank you for the pleasant and cleanliness & service. i plan to come back again i should probably ask waitress more questions next time and not so rushed would of been nice. regards, ty! read more

Great Mexican restaurant! We were driving through the area after a day of hiking in Yosemite, looking for a delicious and filling meal, and they didn't disappoint. We were seated right away, despite it being pretty busy for a Wednesday night. Our waitress brought over chips, salsa, and refried bean dip immediately and took our drink order. The menu is full of classic favorite dishes, as well as a few more unique ones and seafood. I ordered the grilled chicken wet burrito with green sauce. I really enjoyed it! It was giant and packed full of chicken chunks, beans, and rice. On top was melted cheese and a smothering of sweet green sauce. I could only eat half of it since it was so large and filling, so I had plenty of leftovers for the next day. Great Mexican food!!! Service was good. Portions were huge. Well... the menu was extensive!! We came here after a water polo tournament to get some sustenance before our next game. They were able to accommodate our 10 players and parents. We sat down and got some fresh chips, salsa and the best bean dip!! We all ordered at the same time and then we were able to split the bill by what each family ordered. I love that! This was our go to place for years. We were excited about the expansion and now their food prices have doubled. We use to get 2 breakfast burritos and it would come with 2 bags of chips and four salsas. Now they will only give us 1 bag of chips and 1 salsa. Went for the first time to their new location. Read the reviews and was not expecting the food to arrive so quickly. As reviewed service was impeccable with several waiters checking on us. After we ordered from the Al la cart menu it wasn't 5 minutes and we had our first dishes and the rest came minutes later! The food was good though not over the top. The salsa is a bit spicy and not as fresh tasting as I like but overall good authentic Mexican food. They serve complimentary beans you can use to mitigate the spicy salsa. Will remember Agaves when I want a quick bite. read more
