Silver Star Travel, while I'm sure they'll send you on a great vacation, (who doesn't like going on vacation?) will absolutely refuse to share any detail about your experience before hand. I had a terrible experience with one Dawn Brandon. I thrive on details. I want to know what I'm spending my money on. When I receive an itinerary with nothing more than a grand total, I'm inclined to ask questions. I imagine most people would. Ask about a place? They'll send you an itinerary. When you ask about the itinerary, they send you another itinerary. When you ask very specific questions about what it is you're looking at in the itinerary, surprise! They'll send you another itinerary. I was fortunate enough to be paying enough attention, as we almost got sent to the wrong resort, for no other reason than the agent having poor reading comprehension and I suspect a bit of a problem reading and speaking in full sentences. Once we got the right resort in the itinerary, and then after four more attempts, the right room type in the itinerary (she didn't know what rooms the resort had, nor did she know anything about them, nor what the resort included, or the variation in price between the different rooms, something she could have researched in 15 minutes to help us find the right one - I had thought that's what travel agents do), we compared her exact trip to places like Expedia, Costco Travel, Hotwire, Tripadvisor, even just booking myself through the airline and through the resort itself. Every one of these places beat their price, and every one of them knew that the resort was actually going through construction at the moment, and that the room we had chosen would be within earshot of some construction noises. Something a trained travel agent shouldn't have had a problem with, unless they're just more interested in you biting onto the carrot they're dangling. They'll trick you into thinking that they've price checked. They haven't. They'll trick you by telling you things about the resort that are incorrect, or that don't exist. I probably shouldn't have compared her to a fast food worker unceremoniously shoveling french fries into a cardboard container. Sorry about that. I would have spent twice as much money if I'd have known what I was getting. The details are all I wanted. If you're a boomer, or moderately wealthy, or perhaps just only slightly ignorant, and willing to hand over a chunk of your money without actually knowing what you're spending it on, I'm sure you'll enjoy handing your money over to Silver Star. I'm sure they'll enjoy taking it too. After all, who doesn't like going on vacation? Who wants to wonder about what you could have actually had once the money trades hands? I do check for comparably-priced, similar quality places before using my points, but I've been able to use them for great deals in Hawaii, Sunriver, etc. I bought every other year points and that has worked out to be the correct amount for me to enjoy a week at one of the resorts. There are last minute deals too (both nights in the program and weeks at outside properties). Unlike some other points programs, this isn't a "right to use" program, it's shares in a trust that holds all the properties, so you don't get the same massive overselling happening. Yes, for some of the prime properties in the most popular weeks, you may want to book a year ahead to guarantee certain dates, but I've never had trouble finding a suitable property to book when I wanted to.

Our experience with Albert and Byron was incredibly uncomfortable and hostile. This was supposed to be a presentation about VI Resorts -- not an interrogation. Albert repeatedly pressed my partner and me for personal information, including where we work, what industry we're in, where we're located, and other employment details. When I answered vaguely because I didn't feel that information was relevant, his demeanor immediately changed. He told us we could just reschedule because the "point of the meeting was to get to know one another." No. We came to hear about a vacation package. Why do you need detailed information about my employment and industry to explain what you're selling? I answered his questions but eventually told him to drop it because I was uncomfortable with how much he continued to pry. At that point, he decided to walk us out. I made sure to get my $40 deposit back before leaving because our time had already been completely wasted. Byron was no better. While we were explaining what happened, he rudely interrupted with, "He was doing his job." If making potential customers feel interrogated, pressured, and unwelcome is "doing his job," that tells me everything I need to know about this company. They also reminded us that "we chose to be here." Yes, we did -- and that was our mistake. I would NEVER recommend VI Resorts to anyone after this experience. If you encounter them at a fair or event offering vacation packages or incentives to attend a presentation, I strongly suggest reading the reviews first and knowing exactly what you're signing up for. We drove all the way to Vancouver for this and left feeling like we dodged a bullet.

The woman behind the operation is Fanny, one of the nicest ladies ever and she has some mean connections in the travel industry. Friends and family have enjoyed many of her great travel deals to Asia. She tends to somehow magically pull out cheaper ticket fares without having to tack on any additional fees or bundle it with tour related stuff. When tickets to Hong Kong were showing as $900 online, she managed to come up with $750 round trip tickets. This also included her service charges, which seemed so unreal to me. The DVD and Video rentals selection could be better. Though I don't come here for the show rentals, but I know plenty who do. The one general complaint most of them had was she didn't carry enough classic stuff that preceded decades worth of TV. In the end, a small local rental store can only carry so much inventory, so don't expect much beyond that. Never hurts to call in ahead of time, though her Chinese (Cantonese) is a lot better than her English. When it comes to travel perks, it's more than likely she'll be able to work a little magic.
