Our three-night stay in the Grace Bailey Suite at the Captain Swift Inn was one of the highlights of our trip to Maine. The suite was spacious, extremely clean, and featured an amazing shower and an incredibly comfortable bed. We also happened to be visiting during an unusual heat wave, and the air conditioning did an impressive job--which was no small feat given the suite's two-story layout and high ceilings. Coming back to a cool, comfortable room each afternoon and evening was something we appreciated even more than we expected. The breakfasts each morning tasted every bit as good as they looked and kept us full until dinnertime! My husband was running late our first morning (we struggled to adjust from West Coast time), and Matt and Jessica kindly prepared an off-menu breakfast sandwich for him to enjoy later (which was fantastic, by the way). Admittedly, we weren't the most punctual breakfast guests during our stay, yet they couldn't have been more gracious about it. That level of flexibility and kindness certainly did not go unnoticed. Speaking of the innkeepers, I was impressed by how they managed to strike the perfect balance of being warm and welcoming without ever being over the top. They seemed to take their cue from each guest, happily engaging in conversation when invited while also giving everyone plenty of space to enjoy their stay. In my opinion, that can be one of the trickiest parts of staying at a bed-and-breakfast, but Matt and Jessica absolutely nailed it. The inn itself is beautifully maintained, with thoughtful details throughout that make it feel welcoming and special without being stuffy or pretentious. I kept thinking of it as "understated pampering". The location is also ideal--an easy walk to Camden Harbor, shops, and restaurants, while serving as a perfect home base for exploring the many beautiful destinations within an hour's drive. It's clear that Matt and Jessica genuinely care about creating an exceptional experience for their guests. What an amazing stay! Our suite was so comfy and so clean! The breakfasts were divine! The granola! You won't need to worry about lunch. We went up for our 5th wedding anniversary and Jeff had asked what our wedding song was and he put it on the radio while we were having breakfast. I almost cried. Shelly and Jeff made my husband and I feel like family and that meant so much to us. This was my favorite trip ever. I hope we get to travel again soon and I we can go back. What other hotel can you stay in that's texts you when there a freshly baked cookies in the kitchen?! Captain Swifts inn was the perfect stay in Camden. Rick and Carolyn were beyond welcoming and food, ambiance, and room were perfect. The Mattie suite had everything we needed and more with a fireplace, snacks, and a ton of beverages to choose from. The 3-course breakfast was better than we could have imagined and we were full until dinner! They had such fun little perks like fresh baked goods throughout the day, covid-friendly grab and go snacks, and indoor/outdoor seating available for hanging out and playing games. We ordered a bottle of wine and played games by the fireplace and were treated to a huge complimentary cheese plate! So generous, they really though of everything. Would definitely return! read more

Where do I even begin... we stayed in The Grace Bailey loft suite for 5 nights and our time here was simply the best. Rick and Carolyn spoiled us and our 3-year old; they had a pullout couch area all setup for him and he felt pretty special having his own little area! Rick and Carolyn are welcoming, kind and gracious hosts; they and their staff work incredibly hard to provide the absolute best hospitality. They have thought of everything and have all the little extras you might need! They had really nice beach chairs and towels ready and available for us to use. The breakfast/food is UNBEATABLE. From the delicious homemade breads and fresh ground coffee, to the incredible 3-course breakfasts, which are delicious and unique. Everyday we said "WOW"!!! They sure can cook. Oh. And homemade cookies and treats too. At night we relaxed with a beverage around the beautiful fire-pit in the backyard; we were pleasantly surprised to even find bocce ball and cornhole games to play. They have it all! I can tell you as a traveler who spends about 120 days per year in the road this was one of the finest establishments we have ever been to. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left the hosts Jeff and Shelly did not miss one detail. We were greeted at the door when we arrived and made to feel like we were the family they were waiting on. The inn is stunning and well kept. It has the Maine charm yet updated and new to give anyone the comforts they would want. The open kitchen where Shelly was busy preparing the gourmet breakfast and food for the next day is a beautiful centerpiece of the downstairs main part of the inn. Our room was beautiful to say the least. It had everything you would need or want. The bathroom was large and a great walk in shower. Being a bigger person it was more then large enough . Jeff went over everything in detail and left nothing out . The grounds are beautiful and the inn is located a 4-5 min walk to the center of downtown Camden. They serve breakfast each morning and is customizable. I have grown up working and cooking in restaurants my whole life and I will say the food is gourmet. They both take great pride in what they serve and pay attention to every detail of the food and dining experience. . I write this review because when I meet generous and truly genuine people who care about their promise as people and as business owners they deserve praise and recognition. You can tell it is truly a passion for them. The Captain Swift Inn was the perfect place to stay while visiting Camden. Shelly & Jeff make you feel at home the minute you arrive. Their attention to detail is amazing down to every amenity. Games, a library, a fire pit, a tea & coffee bar available 24/7, cookies, candies, toiletries, and, of course, the star of the show, a three-course gourmet breakfast with a personalized menu. The inn itself is absolutely gorgeous inside and out! The historical inn has been beautifully modernized with AC and amazing bathrooms, yet it still has the charm of a bygone era with its lovely wooden floors, historical doors & windows, and updated gas fireplaces. It is within a short walk of all the wonderful shops, restaurants, and waterfront of beautiful Camden. We can't wait until our next visit! read more

This inn has a very nice colonial charm, and the breakfasts here are over the top. Our hosts were very friendly and made us feel at home. The inn has six rooms and two upstair/downstair units. A large library, with lots of books to read and they also offer a large video library, for those rainy days. Lots of comfortable nooks to go to sit and read and the place is bright, with exposed wood in areas. It is obvious the owners take pride and good care of this place. The breakfasts are huge and delicious! Freshly made Maine Blueberry pancakes with sausage on one day; and Egg Fritatta the second day. All are accompanied with either a yogurt with fresh made granola or fruit. Don't be shy, second helpings are encouraged. :) Note, for those that prefer stronger coffee, go with the Keurig coffee instead of the stuff in the pot----my only criticism about breakfast. There is plenty of room for seating breakfasts, which is nice, as I hate staying at places where there is not enough seating. Our room was large, had traditional decor with a gas fireplace, and was very nice. The sheets on the bed were so comfortable. The bathroom was updated and was large enough that two people can get ready without falling over each other. The inn is located within an easy walking distance from downtown Camden. Shops in this town are kind of quirky though.....just know that they ALL close before 6pm, so make sure to get your shopping in before dinner time. We celebrated our 40th year anniversary at Captain Swift Inn and this was the highlight of our trip in Camden. Our breakfast every morning was phenomenal coming from a background of an executive chef/owner of a Bistro. Both Rick and Carolyn practice a genuine hospitality to all their guest. We stayed 2 nights at the Captain Swift Inn and it couldn't have been more pleasant. Shelley is the nicest, most gracious host and Jeff helps you any way he can. Our room - the Lois Candage fireplace King on the second floor was impeccably appointed and spotlessly clean. No detail was spared in terms of storage, toiletries, plush robes, ice buckets, phone charging stations and even bedside chocolates. Complimentary water and soft drinks are available all day from the pantry. Incredible three-course breakfast on the wonderful deck each morning was delightful. The Inn is a quick walk to downtown Camden, and also close to plenty of side trips of things to see and do. Franny's Bistro was a great choice for dinner - make reservations WAY ahead of time. Had a wonderful weekend at the Captain Swift Inn! We were greeted warmly on Friday night by Carolyn and Rick. Carolyn gave us a great tour of the inn! Our room was very spacious and immaculate! The safety measures they have in place made us feel very comfortable staying here. After unpacking we enjoyed a nice bar beverage and delicious cheese plate by our in room fireplace before going out to dinner. Wonderful way to relax after a long ride! What can I say? I will never be able to stay anywhere else without comparing them to Captain Swift's Inn. Rick and Carolyn were the most attentive and kind hosts. The room was spacious, clean, and simply lovely. The breakfast was so bountiful that we ended up skipping lunch most days. The joke was that I wanted to move "INN". Such a beautiful and historic inn within walking distance to Camden center. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated with fireplaces and VERY comfortable beds. The breakfasts are delicious and bountiful; buffet plus another 2 courses. The hosts Rick and Carolyn are friendly and accommodating; they can help you with anything you need or want. The amenities go beyond what one expects in a typical B&B. We will be back, hopefully next summer read more

Stayed for two nights in late July- thoroughly enjoyed it- especially the homemade breakfast! The hosts were very friendly - gave us ideas on where to eat - where to visit etc. They must have put a lot of time and money to renovate this place- it's beautiful - inside and out. Easy walk down the street to downtown Camden to restaurants and shops so it's nice to leave your car at the inn. We're not skiers but looking forward to coming back in the winter time to just relax and sit by the outside fire - highly recommend! read more

It is rare that we leave a review however, because the service and food were so exceptional at the Captain Swift Inn, we just had to. We went up to Camden, Maine and when we arrived Rick and Carolyn welcomed us. When we entered there were three types of homemade cookies and a lemon loaf treat as well as an array of sodas water and coffees or tea available. The next morning, the aroma of bacon cooking beaconed us to the cozy keeping room where the first course of our breakfast was available. Not only was there oatmeal with all the fixings you may like, some of which were pomegranate, blueberries and blackberries, there was also homemade granola. Beyond that, there were 5 different local cheeses to choose from, along with homemade bread and a sampling of fresh local deli meats. Now that was just the first course! We seated ourselves in the dining room and Rick and Carolyn checked in on us and brought us some coffee. Course number 2 was warm plums with honey and orange zest and a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream. Delicious! Then, came our third course. We had a savory omelet that was absolutely fabulous. The bacon was cooked perfectly. We were full the entire day! The next day, the diet was completely out the window! We partook of the first course, yet again. The second course was even better than the day prior. We had an apple turnover that was a little slice of heaven on plate! That was followed by waffles that were tender and hot with sausage and maple syrup! It is approaching dinnertime and we are still full. Rick and Carolyn are able to balance the fine line of being attentive but not invasive. They were great! The bed was super comfortable, bathroom is tasteful and modern. The interiors were clean and well kept. The inn itself was furnished with antiques and modern textiles. It was completely renovated but still had the quaint coziness of low ceilings with beams in the keeping room. In a seamless contrast, they had the modern convenience of a gas fireplaces, three in different rooms that were the common spaces. We were happy to have one in our room, too. Captain Swift Inn is a very nice B&B a few blocks from downtown Camden. Our room was small but well maintained and comfortable. The house itself was very quaint and had a lot of public places to hang and congregate. The breakfast was excellent and the parking situation was easy as well. The only slight issue we had was that the noise from Route 1 was particularly noticeable from our room. This might have been because we were the room closest to the street, but I could see that bothering some people. Luckily we are heavy sleepers so it wasn't a problem. Overall for the price and the accomidations I would stay here again. read more

Stayed here for a wedding. Excellent location--easy to walk to everything in Camden. Ample parking at the Inn and the breakfast was beyond my expectations! The inn keepers couldn't be more friendly and are a wealth of knowledge pertaining to all things to see/do in the area. Only downside (as someone mentioned above) was that we stayed in the Hunt Room, one of the two rooms located on the Main Street, was quite loud even with the windows shut. I would recommend choosing a room further back in the house :) read more

This is our third visit to this traditional New England B&B; this time we stayed in the Greensleeves room toward the rear of the property. The hosts were, as always, very friendly and accommodating and the bed was very comfortable with soft linens, that led to a good nights sleep. The owners make an effort with breakfast with different food on the menu each day. It's certainly not the top B&B in town, but the owners are not charging the same prices as the more well known B&Bs. We think it's probably one of the best in Camden from a value perspective. The rooms are small, but adequate and if the weather is bad there is a lounge area to read and/or play games. If the weather is great then you will be out all day anyway... After our third visit over 10 years, we are still happy and wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay again.... read more

I just stayed two nights at the Captain Swift Inn and let me tell you, what a treat! Carolyn and Rick run one great inn. We stayed in the Mabel Room, which was the perfect room for two: very spacious, lovely bathroom, and a very comfortable bed! In the morning Carolyn and Rick served us a fantastic breakfast beginning with a smorgasbord-style buffet brimming with meats, cheeses, fruit, and yogurt and ending with perfectly crafted omelettes filled with sauteed veggies. The Inn is in a perfect location, just minutes away from the center of Camden. We are so pleased with our stay there and are looking forward to coming back in the near future! They have a 24 hour snacks and drinks available with people available to assist you in any way. Everyone is helpful and kind and ensuring you're having a pleasant stay. The room was beautifully decorated with a fireplace and the shower had jets/rain shower head. The 3 course breakfast is amazing and carried us through mid-day for our next meal. Each room has been completely renovated with no expense spared to provide a true pampered and boutique feel. They've provided a unique experience that goes above and beyond in every detail from the coffee/tea specialty station to the Inn and room inclusions and then there's the breakfast! Beautiful homemade and locally sourced goodies of oatmeal, family recipe granola and hot chocolate. Lovely European meats and cheeses or yogurt and seasonal fruits were just the start to delicious buckwheat pancakes with Maine blueberries and locally sourced maple syrup. This was the best B&B I've ever stayed at. I had never been to Maine before, so I took a chance on the location (Camden) and the B&B. Both were a dream come true. Camden was the perfect quintessential Maine coast town- everything I always pictured Maine to be. The Captain Swift was in a perfect location to walk to everything, but was just outside the town center enough to be quiet. The property itself is absolutely beautiful. Carolyn & Rick were professional, yet so friendly that we truly felt like guests in their home rather than guests at a hotel. The property has been completely renovated and beautifully decorated while still staying true to its historical roots. The 3-course breakfast was decadent. We had some dietary requests which they went above and beyond to accommodate. And Rick's homemade hot chocolate was the best I've ever had. I did a lot of research on different accommodations in the area before booking, and I am so glad I made the right choice with the Captain Swift. While in Camden I walked past some of the other properties (some of which were actually more expensive), and they couldn't hold a candle to the Captain Swift--confirmed for me that I absolutely made the right choice! My husband and I like to travel to new places and therefore we rarely stay in the same place twice--but the Captain Swift was so impeccable in every way, and Camden itself was so beautiful that we would be repeat customers in a heartbeat. My wife and I stayed in the Coastal Hideaway room. It was absolutely beautiful. Huge two floor suite with a whirlpool tub in the elegant ensuite. The innkeeper, Norm, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area with suggestions for activities and more than happy to assist with any ask, not to mention a great chef!
