Lots of whimsy in the garden of repurpose.

What a treasure we have found with Dan and Matt at Windward House! The best care and comfort, a beautiful, spacious room with en suite bathroom and the best soaker tub I've ever been in. Breakfast was delicious and met my dietary needs easily. Blueberry pancakes were scrumptious. Lainie's Garden is great fun out back. A great central location, a wonderful take-off point for local hiking, shopping, boating, the arts, and history.

If I didn't post about how much I loved staying at this place, I'd never forgive myself! Enjoyed my time here so much. The bed was comfy, breakfast was delicious (highly recommend their green smoothie), and the atmosphere was very peaceful. Not to mention the walk to town is only a few minutes and the location is great. Innkeepers Matt and Dan were friendly and quite knowledgeable. The place was extremely well kept, including the beautiful garden, and I could tell that a lot of thoughtfulness and care is put into running this establishment every day. I was very impressed and hope to be back sometime.

Loved our first stay at a B&B. Windward House Innkeepers Dan & Matt were gracious, warm and more than accommodating. Breakfast offered delicious multiple options (eggs, pancakes, French toast, fruit and something 'healthy' which we didn't order!), cooked to order, and served in the dining room or delivered to your room. The Inn has a liquor license so cocktails, wine and beer were available for purchase. There's a beautiful garden area which had a fire pit in the back of the Inn which was a perfect setting for a pre or post dinner drink. We got a tour of the rooms and each was lovely. The Inn is family friendly, something you don't see much of in B&Bs. Dan is extremely knowledgeable about the area and was able to make recommendations for sightseeing and dining that matched our needs. He and Matt clearly love the area. Camden is a beautiful coastal town and the Inn is perfectly situated, within walking distance from from the shops on Main Street and the waterfront Mount Battie is a beautiful backdrop to the Inn and worth the 10 min drive to either hike or drive to the top. Views are amazing! The harbor and islands are picture perfect! We also went out on a boat trip on the Camden Harbor Cruise and saw seals, an eagle's nest and lobstahs and crabs. Speaking of lobstahs, we ate lobster rolls (McLaughlin's Lobster Shack in Linconville, 15 min drive, has tables and picnic benches right on the waterfront, a perfect combo for the delicious lobster rolls), Natalie's 5-course lobster tasting menu (on a beautiful porch overlooking the Camden harbor) and an epic array of lobster and all things seafood at The Waterfront, a Camden restaurant on the dock. Main Street proprietors were friendly and welcoming. And from fine arts to kitchy souvenirs, you'll find it there, along with tasty treats for a sweet tooth. We loved Windward House and Camden! We only had 2 full days there as our first and fourth days were travel days, so we can't wait to return!

Husband got the eggs benedict special, and I got the vegan coconut french toast with a side of 2 tofu vegetable mini frittatas.

We loved the breakfasts including that you got to order from the menu. At our BnB in Portland it had a buffet, and I assume the owner ended up throwing food away at the end of the morning. I love that the Windward Inn did not have to waste. I appreciated the eggs being from pasture raised chickens, free range eggs. Our host was friendly remembering what we had said we would sight-see, then the next morning ask how it went. Our room the Crows' Nest was cute. There are 2 Crows' Nest rooms both taking up the third floor. Because of the slanted ceilings, you'll need to sit down to use the toilet. We liked that the BnB had a guest refrigerator. Internet was always the full three bars.

My room was charming, I met interesting people around the firepit, and breakfast was served with warmed Maine maple syrup.

Dave and Stephen are fantastic hosts and are super helpful with local tips and recommendations 3.1 So was Dave's cousin from Massachusetts who was 'only visiting,' but also helping out while we were there 4. Their breakfasts are amazing (and Dave is willing to share his recipes) 5. They attract repeat guests that are also super nice (we hope to become repeat guests ourselves) 6. It's not a huge -- it's a more intimate and quiet B&B that can accomodate all of their breakfast guests in one seating 7. They have their own chickens (and fresh eggs) 8. Lots of little/nice touches that add up to a wonderful stay Based on the various reviews on several sites we looked at before we booked our trip, we had every reason to suspect we would love our stay at Abigails. They welcomed us to the Inn, gave us a tour and some fresh baked cookies. When we came downstairs in the morning Lauren had set out coffee and fresh baked crumpets. For breakfast she served overnight oats with chia seeds and blueberry compote followed by a tomato artichoke frittata and salad. Everything was excellent! Since we are avid hikers Greg recommended the Mount Battie trail which is within walking distance from the hotel. As we were heading off for our hike, Lauren provided us with more fresh baked cookies still warm from the oven. Greg and Lauren made us feel right at home as did their son Elliott. Elliott has a true entrepreneurial spirit and is very knowledgeable about the Inn and the area despite his young age. It was a pleasure staying here.

My wife and I stayed here four nights recently and used this location to not only spend time in Camden, but to visit other nearby towns like Rockland, Bath, Brunswick, Rockport, and Belfast. Don't forget to visit the Cellar Door Winery in neighboring Lincolnville. Everything worked in our Snug Harbor Suite to perfection. Housekeeping did a great job each morning cleaning and replacing whatever was needed. The innkeepers, Matt and Michelle are warm and some of the nicest people you will ever meet. From the moment we booked our reservation, they began making us part of their family. Just talking to them and some of the other guests about life was relaxing and therapeutic. The price here is very reasonable and worth every penny. There is plenty of parking in their private parking lot. As I said earlier, there is no need to look any further.

Our three-night stay in the Grace Bailey Suite at the Captain Swift Inn was one of the highlights…read moreof our trip to Maine. The suite was spacious, extremely clean, and featured an amazing shower and an incredibly comfortable bed. We also happened to be visiting during an unusual heat wave, and the air conditioning did an impressive job--which was no small feat given the suite's two-story layout and high ceilings. Coming back to a cool, comfortable room each afternoon and evening was something we appreciated even more than we expected. The breakfasts each morning tasted every bit as good as they looked and kept us full until dinnertime! My husband was running late our first morning (we struggled to adjust from West Coast time), and Matt and Jessica kindly prepared an off-menu breakfast sandwich for him to enjoy later (which was fantastic, by the way). Admittedly, we weren't the most punctual breakfast guests during our stay, yet they couldn't have been more gracious about it. That level of flexibility and kindness certainly did not go unnoticed. Speaking of the innkeepers, I was impressed by how they managed to strike the perfect balance of being warm and welcoming without ever being over the top. They seemed to take their cue from each guest, happily engaging in conversation when invited while also giving everyone plenty of space to enjoy their stay. In my opinion, that can be one of the trickiest parts of staying at a bed-and-breakfast, but Matt and Jessica absolutely nailed it. The inn itself is beautifully maintained, with thoughtful details throughout that make it feel welcoming and special without being stuffy or pretentious. I kept thinking of it as "understated pampering". The location is also ideal--an easy walk to Camden Harbor, shops, and restaurants, while serving as a perfect home base for exploring the many beautiful destinations within an hour's drive. It's clear that Matt and Jessica genuinely care about creating an exceptional experience for their guests. We left feeling relaxed, well cared for, and hoping we might find a reason to return in the future. We highly recommend the Captain Swift Inn!
