The five stars goes to the front desk staff of this hotel. Due to a unique set of circumstances, I required a hotel in Rockland very late one night and the front office person here was very accommodating. I would return on this basis alone. The rooms were clean and updated and mine had plenty of chairs to sit. There was not much to breakfast (but it may have been due to the virus).

Rockland is a cute little town and seems like it would be a great spot to stop in the Summer.  We came the week before Thanksgiving so unfortunately a lot of the eats and shops were closed. The Rockland Harbor Hotel was perfect for our time here.   (one night). The hotel was a bit outdated but the room was great! It was HUGE and had a balcony, mini fridge, and microwave. They offer a free bfast which did the trick... although the coffee was not great.  I am not sure what they charge during peak season... I wouldn't say what we paid was terrible but it wasnt amazing either, and for the same price we stayed in a MUCH nicer hotel in Newport RI for the same price.  I would suggest staying at the Rockland Harbor Hotel if the price fits your budget no matter what time of year!

This was a huge disappointment and I wish we had done more research before booking this hotel as the first stop in our road trip up the east coast. This is more of what I would consider to be a roadside motel and not a hotel. The staff was incredibly nice which is why I am giving this three stars instead of none. They had a cute little outdoor seating area which looked nice but was basically just a pen in a parking lot. I'm fact the "harbor view" isn't much of a view at all. After having some trouble getting our key cards to unlock our hotel door (should have been a red flag looking back), we got into our room and went out to explore the rest of the town. Rockland itself was pretty run down and not at all what we expected. I wouldn't stop over in Rockland again honestly. Once we got back to our room after dinner we found that our key cards were not working again. No big deal... I assumed they could just reprogram them. Wrong. The entire locking mechanism for our door had stopped functioning and they had no back up method or master override to get the room door open. After the poor staff tried to get the room (now with all of our possessions inside of it) open for a few hours, they called in someone else who ended up having to break the window to get us in to rescue our belongings. It was about 10pm by the time that happened and our 9 year old son was exhausted. They were kind enough to transfer us to a different room at that point and we ran out of there the next morning. Again, the staff was very kind and I assume this was in no way their fault but I heard someone who I assumed to be a manager mention that this wasn't the first time this had happened (?!). Giving the place three stars for the nice people who work here and since they did refund us, but I can definitely say that we won't be back.

The people at this hotel are friendly and helpful. We had a Beautiful and comfortable room, big TV, nice bathroom, big closet and lovely balcony!!! The breakfast is pretty good- lots of variety. The fire pit on the patio was always full of happy guests in the evening! The location is also wonderful. I highly recommend you stay here!!

stayed here with my four great aunts, mom, and family friend for 4 nights. i can't gush about how nice the staff was enough - my crew is a lot and they knew exactly how to handle them. lovely hotel with a great view and walkable to the little downtown area. great breakfast with never ending coffee every morning. rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. also they had fresh baked cookies in the lobby which was amazing.

Hardly the "harbor view" we were expecting. Mostly cracked asphalt parking lot.

This is my "harbor view." As this is our anniversary weekend, I asked if they had a room at a higher level (hoping to not be sitting basically 8 feet above the hood of the car parked below my room). Nothing higher. How about one that at least has a full-on view of the harbor? No, not all of their rooms are open. One would think if you're just going to open SOME of your rooms, you would at least open the ones directly facing the harbor. Why would you choose to open the least desirable rooms you have? Am I happy? No, I am not. (P.S. On top of everything else, there is a couple on the top level, sitting on their balcony, directly facing the harbor, so everything he told me was also a LIE.)

Ed and Joan, the Innkeepers, made us feel very welcome and were very informative. The location is perfect for anyone taking a morning Ferry to Vinalhaven or North Haven. It is also convenient for a walk through Rockland's beautiful downtown shopping area. Most of the rooms have a view of the harbor. We chose a room without that view but found it perfect for our one night stay. The room was spotless, had a comfortable bed, plenty of drawer space and a private bathroom. There is 24 hour coffee and tea station and a welcoming front room full of reading materials, games, and other interesting items. The front porch is another perfect place to relax and view the harbor. Ed is also the chef and served a wonderful breakfast of tomato and broccoli frittata, mixed fruit, fresh baked muffins and scones. Breakfast also included Ed's very tasty cornmeal pancakes, which I topped off with genuine Maine Maple syrup! We will become regulars as we return to Vinalhaven Island each year to visit our family. And have already recommended it to other family members headed to the island!

I highly recommend the rockers or the swinging chair on sunny wrap-around front porch. Compared to a hotel which confines you in specific places often this is a good option for a family or group of friends visiting Rockland. We watched some of the World Cup and used the mini fridge in the common room. Given the price and down home atmosphere, I don't think you'll find a ton of places like this so close to downtown. We strolled to a number of nice restaurants and cafes as well as the oceanfront boardwalk in just minutes. The house is older and has its issues - crickety floors, slanted bedroom, older windows, etc but this is not advertised as a five star place and you pay for what you get. Sandra has two older cute and friendly dogs and also allows guests to bring their dogs. She makes breakfast every morning and the two days we were there they were delicious. We also met a few of the other guests and ate family style. She also went out of her way to help secure a stroller for us and our baby. This was above and beyond what is expected of an inn keeper.

The room with the large bed is the only one with air conditioning. The large room doesn't have a TV but the room with day bed does have a very small TV. Each room has a sink as the private bathroom shared by a hallway has a tub and toilet only. The one thing I didn't expect was the mosquitoes in Maine during this time of the year. I got one of my first of many bites while using the bathroom at the Inn so just a warning to bring mosquito repellent or buy some at the Rite Aid close-by depending on the time of year you come visit. Sandi, the Innkeeper provided us with wipes from the common area since we didn't come prepared. The common area has a small TV and a computer for Internet use. I would recommend bringing a laptop for use in your room as the Wi-Fi worked great in my room. There is a microwave to warm up food and a small refrigerator to store leftover food and some drinks. We didn't really spend much time in the common area as we were either in our rooms or out and about exploring the area. The front door is kept open all day so make sure you lock your door to your room. This B&B is located within walking distance of some shops and restaurants in town including the Farnsworth Art Museum. One thing to also note is that you can get your car blocked here because of the limited amount of parking. You won't need a car to walk to the shops and museum, but in our case, we wanted to take the car out to buy some groceries and was blocked by someone else's car. We were still on West Coast time and woke up late but Sandi, our Innkeeper, kindly served us a late breakfast when we showed up in the dining room. We had a simple and satisfying breakfast of what was left for us on the table as we couldn't wake up early despite setting our alarm to wake up for breakfast. She brought coffee to us, made us fresh eggs, sausages, toasted English muffins, local berry jam, homemade Greek yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit. Sandi was a great host and definitely accommodated us at breakfast at a later time. I could tell by the people that said their goodbyes to here during our breakfast that they definitely would return on their next trip to Rockland. Sandi is a great host with her warm and friendly demeanor. She definitely made sure you felt comfortable at the B&B. If you needed her for anything, we could have reached her by her mobile phone. Sandi has some dogs and cats roaming around the B&B, so if you don't mind them, you'll enjoy your stay here in this charming B&B with a great host. We definitely felt like we were leaving the home of a friend or distant relative. Sandi is very gracious, kind, and accommodating and I would definitely return if I found myself back in Rockland.
